What’s there to investigate!? He’s dead because he went crazy.
Maybe he escaped custody? Maybe he attacked someone else? Maybe he went off his meds and someone knew but did nothing? They investigate to find out why this happened in case there's something that can be done to prevent it in the future, and possibly to hold someone accountable.
I agree. It sure is making a huge difference in reducing these incidents. We need to provide more funding for those enquiries and investigations to ensure there are no political machinations involved. As far as how much ammo to carry, when carrying the .357 I carry two speedloaders (total 17 rounds because of first-chamber-empty) and with the 10mm I carry two spare mags (total 46 rounds, because one in the chamber). When wearing the Bat Belt, I also have a 12ga shell and a 5.56 round in a separate carrier.

I understand if officers need to be in a situation with no choice but to use deadly force. Still a situation like this, when a criminal has been attacking people with weapons. It's difficult to see such a criminal be treated as if he is reasonable or sane.

I don't know what police policy is, but I would NOT want to have a tazer out to defend myself against a crazy man with two machetes. If he has a lethal weapon in his hand I dead sure would want one in my hand too. By what actually happened I know I'm right.
I'm guessing there was another cop at his side with lethal cover incase the guy charged at them.
The average person could could go 21 feet in 1.5 seconds from a stand still. This basically says if your attacker has a knife and is 21 feet away you better have your gun at the ready.
There were multiple officers at the scene and it seems like none of them tried using the taser without other officers covering the subject with a real firearm. The tactics and procedures are pretty sound here and the escalation seems well managed.
If the cops were aware of the Tueller principle they wouldn’t have been screwing around with a taser

They fail around half the time they are deployed, thick clothing stops them but sometimes they just don't connect right even in perfect conditions.

They're going to do a workup to see what led to this event, and document that story and its supporting evidence.
We're still talking about the violent death of a citizen... a homicide... a justifiable homicide to be sure... but a homicide.
It's part of our system of checks and balances and accountability, that every premature death of a citizen is investigated, and the facts surrounding that death are documented.
As an armed citizen, if I ever have to use my firearm to save my bacon from a nut like that... I hope they'll do the same kind of exhaustive investigation, and I expect they will, and they SHOULD.
The power to void someone's birth certificate on our own summary command and judgment without prior review, is an awesome power every one of us possesses whether we're armed or not.
With that power, comes responsibility.
And if there's power and responsibility, there MUST be ACCOUNTABILITY... independent and unbiased eyes, to investigate and review what exactly happened and why, and to make a formal, documented determination on whether that use of that power was legitimately justified, or not... and if it wasn't... how that was handled by our justice system and WHY it was handled that way.
I'd want that investigation... because I'd feel horrendously bad that I had ended someone's life... and I would want the reassurance that comes with an unbiased review. I would need that as part of a long-term healing process, from the trauma of ending a fellow human being's existence. It still wouldn't change the sadness I'd feel, or the fact that it'd be a difficult thing to carry with me the rest of my life... but it'd help a little.

Our training is one non-lethal weapon if possible (taser) and one lethal. "Always" try less than first but only when there's lethal there too. If he was by himself, he would have had his weapon pointed at him instead
