This film came out during my adolescence, and that scene with Juliet Lewis in the auditorium stayed with me for years. But otherwise, it's a terrifying ride that's almost too well made for its own good, as it's tough to sit down and squirm through it.
I'm glad it helped you become aware of just how sadistic and depraved some human being can actually be, as it may have given you a level of awareness your parents failed to impart. Every adolescent needs to know these sick individuals out there, but in an age-appropriate way (not suggesting this film is the way to go about it), because they DO walk amongst us, and some of them show up as psychopaths like Armie Hammer and do irreparable damage to the young women the traumatize (just like he did).
I love everything about this film. The plot (of course), the pacing, the acting, and the impeccable editing from Thelma Schoomaker that has always lent itself beautifully to Scorsese's directing style.
Damn, you said it. Scorsese also directed the most terrifying episode of Spielberg's "Amazing Stories" about a ghostly serial killer that got closer every time you saw your reflection. Shout out to the great Elmer Bernstein. I was a member of his "Filmmusic Collection" and loved his re-recording of Bernard Herrmann's rejected score for Hitchcock's "Torn Curtain". What he did with Herrmann's music from the original "Cape Fear" with the addition of other unused music was awesome. Freddie Francis brought his "Hammer Horror" influence. Stars all around. A terrific remake but that weirdly haunting sound of people screaming on a roller coaster made that ending so unsettling.
@@le_th_ Not necessarily. The "victim" was done in when he looked into someone's eye (spoiler) but would see the twisted looking killer anytime he saw a reflective surface... not unlike the "Weeping Angels" from Doctor Who.

Though young at the time, Juliette Lewis seems to have learned a lot from her father. She doubtlessly knew how to act and how to get parts. She was amazing, she nailed her character. She was perfect in _Cape_ _Fear_ .

A District attorney who's faithful to his wife and they have a nice teen daughter. The remake had a criminal defense attorney who cheats on his wife and a daughter who's 'off the charts' creepy and perverted. She LIKES the sleazeball, at least at first. Nick Nolte; who-along with acclaimed actor Robert Redford-could've played Jack Driscoll in Universal's first attempt of a Kong remake: "The Legend of KING KONG" from 1975-1976. and Robert De Niro; who was Peter Jack-son's choice for the more-villainous Carl Denham in his initial vision of a "KING KONG" remake from 1996-1998.
