  • American Psycho is a film many do not consider to be a traditional horror film. However, it has so many aspects of the genre, from murders to horrific treatment of people, to feeding a kitten to an ATM - classic, by the way, it can easily be categorized as horror or horror-adjacent. So let's dig into all of it on this episode of WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?
    Written by Emilie Black
    Narrated by Jason Hewlett
    Edited by Joe Wilson
Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon
    Executive Producer by Berge Garabedian
WATCH OR OWN THE FILM HERE: amzn.to/3pmuGgU
SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?

You guys missed one little controversy that seems to be all but forgotten. I worked as security on American Psycho from pre production until the wrap party. during pre-production the parents or Paul Bernardo's were very upset that it was being filmed in Toronto (rumor was Bernardo had a copy of the book on his nightstand) as a result we were told under no circumstances were we to tell anyone who asked us while on location what production it was.....so the security team would answer people with either it's Degrassi the next generation (years before that was actually a thing) it that it was an unnamed sequel CBC production of the beachcombers.
    couple of fun facts
the first restaurant scene was filmed beside a theater....Reece Witherspoon's trailer was parked in front of it....the movie playing? Cruel Intentions and Ryan Phillippe was on set the entire time she was in the trailer with there new born baby.
Josh Lucas , who's biggest credit at that point was as "Flash" in Wing commander 3 signed his first official autograph on set...for my then 12 year old brother in law, even taped himself signing the game box with a camcorder for his grandparents.
and finally yes Christian Bale was in character as Patrick Bateman the entire time (most of us lowly grunts didn't really recognize him) my buddy had to drive him to his hotel from set one day....Christian Bale was doing the feed me a cat/I want to play with your blood but the whole time...freaked my buddy out ..I feel bad for whoever his handlers were in the Batman movies....that must have been a nightmare 🤣

That particular controversy isn't unique to this movie; it seems to happen a lot so it doesn't really seem like something the video needed to include that would've been essential to this specific movie. The phrase "fun facts" needs to die but those factoids (improved on it already) are much better video material than the controversy.

Patrick Bateman as Christian Bale was a laugh riot.
You're absolutely correct about the way Bateman talks about his morning routine as being similar to a "influencer".
Personally I find the outward-projecting need by people to be healthy and fit of the last ten or so years to be extremely Bateman-esque. Far, far less interestingly of course though.
Apparently the promotional emails were not written by Ellis, Bale (who did not like them) or Bateman but by a somebody in the film-companies marketing department.
