I grew up listening to Joan Baez. Incredible voice, so clear you can hear every word. Saw her perform in Boston with my wife, sister and brother in law . She walked out with her guitar, sat on a stool and mesmerized the audience for 2 hours. She also is a wonderful human being who stands up for what she believes.

I always liked 1960s folk music. Joan Baez sings this song so well. the only thing is, she should have Substituted Harry for mary considering the times(1960s) for obvious reasons.
@@mtnstrand2819 It's must be the Mexican in her. They can't stand women of color being more successful than they. The saying that: "ignorance turns to jealousy, and jealously turns to hatred" applies here. It's the hateful Christian-Conservatism in them.
To cover anything after its been recorded by Johnny Cash takes guts. She does him proud. Just like Johnny Cash, There will never be another Joan Baez. Two essentially American Artists.
I was at a girl friends' sleepover and I must have been about 15 and she was 13. Someone gave her an album by Joan Baez and I up until that time never heard of her not even on the radio. Anne played her lp and I feel in love with Joan ever since. (1970)
A WONDERFULLY ARTISTIC rendering. of a truly. MARVELLOUS song by the always BRILLIANT and forever great artist, and vocalist that is Joan Baez ----- LOVE ❤️ Evelyn O'Connor
Yes but this was ,,performed mostly by male singers, i mean just listen to the lyrics mary, with lips like cherries, however she did knock it out of the park!!!😊😊😊❤❤❤
in 1969, when was a school boy of 15 years, I first saw Joan Baez in the cinema in the woodstock movie - and my only wish was to merry this beautiful wife with this never copyd voice. I found another woman, who looked like her and merried her. Now I am 58, widower and live in Thailand after my wife died with only 51 years in 2008. And remember the green green gras of our beautiful, 430 years home in Germany.
I have no idea how such a beautifull voice fits into such a tiny gentle woman ... simply amazing ! Singing live, nothing to be compared with todays "stars" who cannot sing a note without playback
Big voice out of tiny body - there are several, all very different. Judith Durham (of the Seekers) many think is on a different level to all others. Mireille Mathieu - very different voice. Cilla. Lulu. Timi Yuro. …
A STRIKING AND EXCITING HUMAN BEING,WHO CARES SO MUCH ABOUT THE IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE,AND HAS TOUCHED MANY,ALL OVER THE WORLD FOR MANY MANY YEARS NOW!!!
Joan is a legend... What a performance... She's beyond excellent... She's absolutely divine... Love you Joan... Thank you for your music... You are a national treasure... PBS again? I hope .. have you heard the cover band Led Zepagain... How about Joan-again... Love you guys... Signing off... ❤😊
I melt when I see her face. My heart bleeds for the loss. She is the spitting image of my first wife. Not a night or a day eludes me of the love that was once mine. To she her is not my Judy. I was called to Vietnam and when I returned she had went to be with the Lord. I've been a bad ass ever sence I lost her love
Everybody's sung the damn thing. What gets me is a little country feller in Tennessee wrote the damn song, and since it's been covered over 700 times it's the only song he ever needs to write. It's once in a lifetime that a song like that comes along. And it happens to be my favorite song of a lifetime so I hope he's made billions from his efforts. Because the people that's made millions from his efforts are world wide..... I'm wondering what a Michael Jackson or a Snoop Dogg cover would have looked like???
This is a masterclass in unadulterated, honest, emotionally brilliant singing. Intuitively sings the emotion, instead of the "sound" of the emotion. Even without a world class voice, she would still be a world class singer. And she's got both. This should humble all of the vocal chord gymnasts who pass themselves off as singers on shows like The Voice and American Idol.
Lovely. She sung at Bates College winter festival in Dec 1960. Just young Joan Baez sitting in a high chair with her guitar, around her - 800 students and teachers. I hope heaven is that good.
This song always brings me to tears and I stop and think of all my family and friends who have gone on to be with the lord himself god bless you all and remember that each and every one of you who have lost a loved one they are now and always will be in the lords arms waiting for as to return home to be with them all one day sending love light and happiness from... I remember how this song caught me off guard when I heard it for the first time. I was like, okay, some good folk song, performed by well-known singer, let's give it a try. Then 'I was only dreaming' line came, and I immediately felt, as in my language we say, 'a clod in a throat', an urge to cry. I remembered how much I miss places where I grew up, my childhood, my folks, everything that is left somewhere in the past. I guess understanding sad lyrics comes in a bundle with learning a foreign language.
A voice from the past. It is wonderful to see and hear Joan Baez again. Seems like yesterday I heard her sing and play this much beloved song. Thanks for posting so older folks like me can relive those days once again.
Amazing natural beauty of looks and voice. I'm very happy that I live in the same time as Joan Baez. It's such a great joy to just listen to her lovely voice.
Remembering the days when if you wanted a career as a singer you actually had to be able to, you know, SING! Joan Baez's rendition of this song with her crystal clear voice that's full of emotion still can make me cry after all these years.
Her voice is like something from the movies how the women used to sing so perfectly and effortlessly, she sings every word like she means it, and doesn't seem to be forcing it. She reminds me of purer things in life.
What strikes me most of all is how respectful the audiences were back then, how they gave the performers complete attention while they were singing. Too bad there's not the same courtesy today!!
The old home town looks the same As I step down from the train And there to meet me is my Mama and Papa Down the road I look and there runs Mary Hair of gold and lips like cherries It's good to touch the green, green grass of home Yes, they'll all come to meet me, arms reaching, smiling sweetly It's good to touch the green, green grass of home The old house is still standing tho' the paint is cracked and dry And there's that old oak tree that I used to play on Down the lane I walk with my sweet Mary Hair of gold and lips like cherries It's good to touch the green, green grass of home Then I awake and look around me At four grey walls that surround me And I realize, yes, I was only dreaming For there's a guard and there's a sad old padre Arm in arm, we'll walk at daybreak Again I touch the green, green grass of home Yes, they'll all come to see me In the shade of that old oak tree As they lay me 'neath the green, green grass of home

I love the version of Joan Baez singing The Green, Green grass of home❤
Thank you YT. I have not listened to Joan Baez since I stopped playing records. She was the sound of my college days.
I was on a submarine in the late 60's. I had this dream of being at home, very much like your song. It brought me comfort. Thank you.
You can tell, she's feelin' it. Very special.

The only singer of the same purity in my opinion, sadly now taken from us- Judith Durham
Nobody sings like her anymore, nobody can sing like her anymore. The best period👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Oh, such effortless, extended vibrato in the voice. Lovely woman, lovely music.
Such memories. Such a great voice. A living legend!
I can’t understand the mentality of people who give this performance a ‘thumbs down’.

Hi Evelyn 💐💐
Great song, great voice. Very few people can sing like this anymore.
How long
Saw her in August 2000 at the Cambridge Festival, and nothing will ever equal that.
While playing the guitar very well! Amazing.
She is a tribute to her Mexican-American heritage. The music, the culture, the performance.
Joan's mother was from Edinburgh Scotland
Hope she is still alive and green This song brings ,e back to my youth days.....
When she sings this song it makes me cry, after all these years she still can bring a tear to my old eyes.
Brother...they can't that away from us! At least.... we had a dream... sorry to be still alive!
Whatever this great Lady sings...I'm still so moved, I just let it go

that's why she's unique. she created her own sound. she isn't like all other singers. for once there was someone as refreshing as joan baez.

ich hörte Sie und Ihre Lieder vor 50 Jahren, ich darf nicht daran denken, Joan Baez und Ihre Lieder leben ewig, träumen tut weh,
I always thought this was a Tom Jones song, nobody could compare. Well Joan Baez has shattered that presumption. 👍👍
Elvis sang it too
Johny Cash the best.

The best performer I've ever seen live. Stunning!
And she did not need deafening amps and pyrotechnics to add to her performances. Just a gentle strumming on her guitar and that whisper of a voice.

The old home town looks the same
As I step down from the train
And there to meet me is my Mama and Papa
Down the road I look and there runs Mary
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home
Yes, they'll all come to meet me, arms reaching, smiling sweetly
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home
The old house is still standing tho' the paint is cracked and dry
And there's that old oak tree that I used to play on
Down the lane I walk with my sweet Mary
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home
Then I awake and look around me
At four grey walls that surround me
And I realize, yes, I was only dreaming
For there's a guard and there's a sad old padre
Arm in arm, we'll walk at daybreak
Again I touch the green, green grass of home
Yes, they'll all come to see me
In the shade of that old oak tree
As they lay me 'neath the green, green grass of home
What a Beautiful woman with a very pretty voice & legacy!
Lovely voice. Such a nice version of this song.
Joan Baez and Linda Ronstadt are unmatched singing talents.
