I see many people ask what the strap does in the comments. I have experimented with it a bit and these are my findings: TLDR: It prevents shifting between to layers of fabric and helps with sewing across other seams or thick areas. Long and bad explanation: Sometimes when you sew two different fabrics together, or two sometimes two pieces of slippery fabrics, the bottom layer of fabric will be moved by the feed dogs. The top layer, however meets resistance from the pressure foot. This can cause the two fabrics to slide slightly. If you are sewing a long seam like down the sides of a dress or pants, then the shift is quite noticable. The strap prevents this, as the pressure foot slides easily on the strap while still applying pressure to the fabric. Another use is for going over other seams or thick areas. If you think of a flat felled seam, it is like a curb or a staircase step. With the strap on top, it acts as a ramp and helps guide the pressure foot slide over the seam. Feel free to ask questions, as I am terrible at explaining. Sorry about that.
Perfect explanation! I kept seeing it used, but couldn't see the reasons. It didn't seem to be a sewing guide. I shall certainly try it out. Oh, all the strapping I've thrown away...
Thank you so much for the explanation. I have asked this many times and atelier saison explained but was still unsure of it's advantage. I think the best thing is to try it. I did think the video will show what happens when you don't use it, that would have been more helpful. I even cut my tape the way they did it but still not sure when to use it.
I'm glad I found this tip! I could have used it last weekend. Lifting the backend of the foot when approaching multiple layers of fabric like when sewing the side seam and get to where the front pocket is can cause the foot to stop advancing due to the angle. This technique is brilliant and so simple! Plus it is free, no additional sewing gizmo to buy (but I bet a similar tool is available for purchase)!
I have read so many difficult instructions on making pockets, but watching this video I can see this is the best way of making a side pocket! Clean and not complicated, but very secure. I will try this method for the straight side pocket too! Thank you again for sharing your amazing skills!
Just when I was wondering what material the white straps were, you show us! Great tip, thank you! And always impressed with the precision of the stitching--and the marking tacks and the piece cuts and the pattern drafting!
I also love your professional irons. They are so powerful with steam that you don't need to press down hard on the fabric. Actually during construction it looks like very light pressure is usually used.
Interesting threading method on the needle. I want to try that. Normally after the feeder hole on the needle bar the thread goes straight through left to right through the eye of the needle but I noticed you guys wrapped the thread around the back of the needle then through the eye left to right. I've never seen that before but it obviously works and I'm thinking will make a better stitch because of how the thread normally goes down on an angle and through the hole treating tension once the needle is in the down position through the fabric. Not sure if that will make sense.
What a good eye you have, I didn't notice that, but the thread does wrap behind the needle. Perhaps they will respond as to why they do this. Might be because the sewing machine has no wire right above the needle that could align the thread close to the needle, so they wrap it to get it out of the way. The only loop I see is the black loops farther up and that might allow the thread to dangle too much.
I've been watching you use the white strap for a while now and want to try it. I keep waiting to get a delivery that uses them, lol.But what is its purpose? As a guideline or to keep the fabric strait? Thank you.
The white strip is a plastic strapping band and often used for packing work. This is in order not to slide while sewing (sewing gap). When the thickness of the fabric is different, the pressure of the presser foot and the feed dog are not stable. Putting this tape means adding the height. Without it, it will be difficult to stitch stably in areas where there are many overlapping pieces of fabric. This is also useful for straight guide line. I hope that a wonderful delivery person will bring this to you soon! Thank you!

Muchas gracias.

When you were serging the pocket pieces I noticed you were not cutting off excess fabric with the serger blade. Are you achieving this by being very skillful at keeping the fabric edge just before the blade? I don't think you would have disengaged the blade. Why didn't you let the serger trim away some of the fabric? I realize you cut your pattern pieces to very specific widths.
The blade of the serger is, of course, not off. We don't serge while cutting off excess fabric. This is because it would result in uneven seam allowances. She serges while keeping the blade right at the edge of the fabric, without cutting any extra fabric. Thank you.

It is a scratch awl for sewing as a notcher. This is sold by a Japanese brand. Thank you.
Reconozco que el trabajo de atelier Saison es excelente ..no entiendo el uso de la correa blanca, me parece innecesaria, ....no se 🤔
