This stuff is magic, the only thing is to be really careful with really lightweight fabric. I managed a 3mm rolled hem on chiffon and it turned out fantastically but the little ‘hooks’ can get caught in the rest of your fabric and snag it. I also did my hem using 2 shorter lengths of ban rol because I found it was easier to handle than the 3 metre length I have

I have been using your technique with the ban roll for narrow hems and I love it! No more fussy ironing the 1/4" turn and then again.Yuck!
What I did to keep the ban roll useful for more repeated use is this: I painted on clear nail polish at the edge where the width-wise threads are sticking up(not on the edge of the sticking up part but at the woven part) This way I don't get more of the length-wise threads starting to "shedd" and come off when you don't want them to. It is keeping the ban roll nice and neat. Thanks so much!

OMG! You’ve just changed my life! For all the time I’ve been sewing, I’ve used a narrow overlock (one needle) then followed those stitches to fold the fabric. Although it’s perfect for mid-weight fabrics, it’s not as successful on chiffon, organza, etc. Using ban-tape will mean these lighter weight fabrics won’t have that added weight from extra stitching inside the hem. I have a customer’s chiffon gown to re-hem and am full of hope instead of dreading it!! Thank you so much. New subscriber from the U.K.

Oh, I thought due to the stiffness of the material, that likely wouldn't work. Gonna try it then! I already checked and it's available here. Which isn't always the case with stuff like that. But online shops have cought on to the fact, that their customers are now familiar with products from the US and such.

Genius...!!! I have subscribed and hope to continue my personal profit (in skills...) from your wonderful ideas and tips...!!! Thanks for sharing your helpful information...!!! Just out, popping from my head, comes the possible application of the use of 1 or 2 or 3 individual threads coming out of this product, to coil comfortably over any linen fabric pencil design drawned destined to be covered by any embroidered stitch and filled... The use of each one stand-alone thread coming out of the Ban-Roll would be, perhaps, less stiff to use as support in some Irish or Romanian needle lace, and/or other ways to embroider or doing any handwork... I am just thinking out loud after imagining one thread to help hand roll hems in silk and sheers used for kerchiefs or gossamer panties... Forgive me for my enthusiasm... Just woke up, watched your video and can't control my brain any more... It has a life of its own... Sorry...

Very nice technique! I would love to find a natural fiber band roll. I don’t want the plastic fibers left in the garment. Any suggestion?

You could try some sort of jute fabric. I have friends who have used it. Cheers 😊

Is it possible to leave the Ban-roll in the hem - 1/4” for example? I’m making a tiered ruffle maxi dress out of lightweight cotton and would like the hem to have structure or “stick out” (hope this makes sense). Thanks so much for this video & tips. It has helped a lot!

Hi! In this case, what you need is horsehair. This video will explain to you how. One of the three examples is exactly what you are looking for:
