Thank you for showing this technique because Ban roll is very expensive and this is an alternative method to save some money and yet the results are the same as using Ban roll.
I have a summer dress to shorten for a friend, i have been dreading it. Thank you so much for these wonderful tips, im off for a wee practice with some curtain tape! 😆👍
Glad I could help Deb. I recently found a packet of BanRol in a box of vintage sewing bits from a deceased estate. Have kept it, but don't want to use it as it's so scarce 🤣
Thanks for the tip about the edge tape, it probably is easier to find than the banroll. I think I would cut the edge tape in half length wise to make it easier to handle. I have a length of banroll that I have reused about 30 times and it's still going strong.
I have managed to get quite cheap banroll tape on alliexpress. The only downside is that it is a little bit skewed. It is noticeable on longer hems, but you just need to carefully cut some threads, so you do not pull on the whole length. Even with that issue... this technique is amazing. But I am glad that there are alternatives, as it is impossible to get banroll in Poland.
WOW! This is wonderful. I tried to shorten some sheer curtains, what a mess. I threw them out they were so bad. I could have used this back then. Thank you so much.

I’ve found ban-roll on the internet, but it’s expensive and also the postage is high. I’ve been wondering if there’re other ways to sew roll edges. Thank you so much.
From the Netherland also a big Thank You! Over here ban-roll is only available through one website and the shipping costs are ridiculous! I’m só happy with your alternatives!
Hi Ann. As I can't find BanRol in Australia, I've used Petersham tape, and also curtain heading tape. If you can find stiff buckram, that will work too😀
I saw some one do this with aida cloth, the stiff fabric for cross stitching. At the time I couldnt find any. Forgot the method, I can actually do a pretty narrow one with my fingers. Never could use the foot atachments.
Es ist sehr schwierig, in Australien zu finden. Suchen Sie nach "Banrol", aber ich habe stattdessen Buckram oder Vorhangband für diese Technik verwendet 😀
Sherry, there's usually several metres or yards on a roll so I cut more than enough to cover my project. That way it can be reused for the next hem. With the excess on the roll, you can do the same thing with narrow or wider hem allowances. When done, simply roll it up until you need it again 😀
Catherine For really large skirts, I sew ¼" along raw edge, then use that stitching line to create double fold, then sew hem. Does this make sense? I can do a quick video 😀

You're very welcome!😀
Thanks so much for this technique, I am going to use it on my daughter's bridesmaid gown hem! 😊
Excellent. Thank you 🙂
Thanks Anne😁
Thank you so much! Your so talented. I will try this technique next time.
Thank you Diane. Good luck next time😀
Дорогая Кристина!! Благодарю вас за эти идеи! Я не могу найти ban roll, но хотела найти хорошую замену. Идея с лентой для штор гениальна!
Thank you Dilara 😁

Wow - still learning new techniques after 50 years - Thank you so much for sharing. Your teaching is so enjoyable.
Thank you Yvonne 🌝
Thank you so much! I have been looking everywhere for BanRol without luck, and now I know there are alternatives. This is great!

@@ChristinesHomeAffairs Sewing Gem sells it.
Thank you so much first time seeing this technique. Very helpful.
Thanks Lexi 😀
Thank you Christine. I am in Africa and like you ban roll is not really found. However, curtain tape in adundance, a great tip. 😊
Thanks Teresa. I found a vintage packet some time ago in a deceased estate. I'm afraid to use it for fear of running out😁

Awesome Christine . You are a very good teacher and very innovative too.
Thanks Mary 🙂

It sure is expensive; and often very hard to find. There are many techniques for narrow hems. I'll try to do another tutorial soon 😀
Genius! Wish I'd known this last year when I made dresses for my granddaughters as I really struggled to get the narrow hems!
Thanks Heather. Those narrow hems can be a real pain 😁
Donde lo puedo encontrar?
Hi Christine , I am about to hem a bridesmaid dress and this tutorial came up , just what I need to do the very small hem. Thankyou.
You're very welcome Maxine. I have a similar video coming up in just under 8 hrs 😁

You're very welcome Hillie. We can't get it here either 😃
Brilliant idea to use curtain tape. Thank you!!😊
You're very welcome 😁
Wow great trick thank you!
Happy to help Judy 😀
Hello, I am not a native speaker... would you mind writing the names of the tapes you have used, please? Thank you for your videos!😊👍

That's a great idea. I managed to get some curtain buckram which is also great for this technique, though I usually do it by eye as well 😀
Wow ein super Tipp, wo kann man das Band kaufen. Vielen Dank - Thank you Fromm Germany👍👍💕
Es ist sehr schwierig, in Australien zu finden. Suchen Sie nach "Banrol", aber ich habe stattdessen Buckram oder Vorhangband für diese Technik verwendet 😀
Do you buy enough to go around the entire circumference at one time or shorter areas at a time?
Sherry, there's usually several metres or yards on a roll so I cut more than enough to cover my project. That way it can be reused for the next hem. With the excess on the roll, you can do the same thing with narrow or wider hem allowances. When done, simply roll it up until you need it again 😀
thank u so much i love it
That's fabulous Lisa 😃
I dont have enough ban rollfor this extremely full skire. what to do? hekp!

Can we reuse that ban tape?
Thank you got my answer 👍🏻
You sure can Michelle 🙂
What about burlap ribbon?
I haven't worked with burlap, but if the strands are nice and rigid once you've pulled a few threads of, then it should work as well😀
Amazon has it.
Thank you. 😀
Do you think if we can use A4 paper? Maybe the thinnest A4 one?
I think this might just be a brilliant idea. Of all the items I tried, paper didn't even occur to me😁
I thought about it too but then when you remove the paper, do you just leave it into the fabric ?
