    Rlly liked the way Shakti phrased his sentences and how he expressed them esp (10:57 ) what he said about there is no definite path in life set for you after you get your degree, most of time it’s societal pressures that stops you and other external factors - the main point is sometimes the way we are made to think should be our greatest takeaway when we graduate ( so things like soft skills etc )

    University education is not so much on academics. It's main objective and curriculum is to mould one to be more analytical, sociable, and the ability to handle some stress. As such, its never the grades you achieve in your university but the learning and character building process you go through during the life in the university. A degree certificate will only help you as a stepping stone to your first job. After that, its just a paper hidden in your cabinet. What make you successful in life is your character and integrity. So don't bother which university you go to but enjoy and treasure the journey.

    Honestly rather than BA being to "wide", i'd say BA has a huge range of niche specializations people just don't know about. That's fair enough, since there's no need to know about it especially if you're not interested in taking business. However, if you are interested in taking a business degree, know that BA can range from HR to marketing to business analytics to BnF, all of which are extremely different and this applies even after taking a specialization! For BnF, theres PE/VC, IB, HF, restructuring, etc etc. For marketing, theres UI/UX, social media marketing, physical marketing etc. Even for business analytics there's people focused on coding and people moving into quant fin. (can't say much about HR cause.. well I don't have any HR friends HAHA) Yes, there are transferrable skills but you could probably ask anyone in any of the fields and they could already tell you how different each of them are :^) no hate, just sharing in case anyone here is considering taking a BA! :D

      @chae Yeah thats why I said the course matters more than university. But lets be real, same course and diff uni does matter. There are reasons why certain unis consistently earn much more than others in the same course. (One of them is target schools, just look at the sheer number of HFTs appearing in NUS. There's JS, HRT, Citadel etc) And you should know, for tech the pay range varies greatly, so its best to maximize your chances.

I believe most people (and I am one of them, among some other schoolmates as well) want to enter Air Transport Management, but we were not given due to the poly diploma (its like a specialization). Biased, in my view, NTU is the best out of the 3 (now that they have a medical school and a teaching hospital at TTSH). But basically, it's up to the faculty strengths that should matter. Engineering, I think College of Engineering at NTU is the best, very focused. NUS has a strong medicine faculty, quite proven. Then you have those from SMU for social sciences. Depends on what you want to study.
    My preference is NTU, it's just the environment and the entrepreneurial setup seems much better, but depends on what you want to pursue.

    lol i have enrolled in both SMU and SUSS before. HUGE HUGE HUGE Difference. the standard in SUSS is really subpar(no offence to anyone) as compare to the big 3 uni . no way to compare at all man. i have did many research and review all their delivery of the course. suss is the easiest to pass ( i wouldn't talk about acing).
    NUS SMU NUS standards are way too big a difference as compared to suss and SUTD.
    obviously different course have different ranking in the UNIs.
    but if i were to rank the big 3 overall(ly), i will rank NUS -> NTU -> SMU.
    SIT, SUSS and SUTD still a long way to go. maybe in another few decades. but if were to rank, SIT --> SUTD--> SUSS

    • @johnwig285
      @johnwig285 3 года назад +43

      The fact that u use passing as a yardstick as a measure of quality speaks volume in ur flawed assessment. Last time when NTU just started, ppl like u were saying that it is easier than NUS, now look where it is at. Not to mention, at the rate SMU is rising, if it wasnt for the fact that one of the major factors in uni rankings is research output which SMU doesnt focus on, coupled with the fact that it is younger than NUS & NTU, it would've been ranked above both NTU & NUS. There's a reason why some who gain admission into NUS were rejected by SMU, while the other way round is a rare case. NUS only cares abt ur grades. U only need to get outstanding grades and dont need technical skills and essential factors like business acumen unlike SMU. Not to mention, u have definitely underestimated SIT & SUTD a lot. SITs curriculum is way more specialised than NUS & NTU which have a lot of unnecessary "general modules" which could've been spent on a proper specialisation instead of merely throwing in a few electives. The problem with SIT is simply marketing and their admission process. To get into NUS com sci, all u need is good grades. A few friends got As, werent even interested in the field yet they got in. I even helped them do their assignments because it was easier than mine. Meanwhile, to get into SIT, u have a general interview, group observation session and a project showcase. This weeds out many A level applicants and as such isnt a popular choice for A level students when they perceive that a certain uni has more poly kids than jc kids. SUTD is co-developed by MIT and emerged as one of the top young engineering universities. SUSS does away with the conventional system of focusing on exam and instead focus on application of skills. Because the purpose of learning is to apply into real-life, not to mug like siao just to pass an exam.
      In 10 years: SMU>SUTD>NUS/NTU>SIT>SUSS

    • @roy4816
      @roy4816 3 года назад +15

      @@johnwig285 For real no way SMU will rank higher than NUS and NTU ever. Firstly, SMU is limited in their research studies, they only have departments in social sciences, economics, business and computing (to a certain extent). In no logical way will SMU be able to match the level of research the institutes in NUS and NTU are churning out. And just so you know, universities aren't just about their undergraduate department, and a lot of it has to do with their research institutes which SMU has the least as compared to NUS and NTU. NUS and NTU have whole buildings and departments dedicated to research and their post-graduate programmes are much more diverse and larger than SMU.
      SMU all in all is a management university which i guess is trying to expand. But it does not have the facilities nor does it have the talent that NUS and NTU have (yet again I'm talking about research staff not students so get a hold of yourself) to produce that level of output.
      Stop acting like a partial and un-biased comment when your last sentence is literally a blanket statement. You only need outstanding grades and dont need technical skills or essential factor??? Uhm last time i checked when i apply to SMU i got the offer and a scholarship directly without needing to go for any aptitude test or anything? All SG universities are the same. Grade above everything else, don't park SMU above it like its some sort of anomaly. A 4.0 GPA poly grad and a 90RP jc graduate will be able to pass through the admission round easily for all 3 universities. And don't fight technical, because SMU has the least technical education amongst the 3 universities (due to its focus on management which isnt a bad thing, but yet again it requires the least technical knowledge). Cheers.

      @@roy4816 hi... just to correct you a little. my friends (more than one) of 3.8-4 GPA was heavily wanted by NUS/NTU but they got rejected by SMU.. sorry to say. It is true that SMU actually looks much beyond grades when they are interviewing you. they honestly could care less abt your highass grades and they see beyond that

      @@hepburnsss2776 Please read the conversation throughly before arguing please.
      1.) I was not talking about the difficulty of entering the uni, I am talking about the university ranking
      2.) University ranking does not dictate how competitive it is to enter university, it just ranks a university based off various indicators.
      And based off these indicators, it is difficult and impossible for SMU to beat NUS and NTU in rankings. Not because SMU is bad, but because of the age and nature of the university.
      Im not even looking at factors that affect undergraduates (which your friend probably is). so your argument is completely irrelevant.

      @@roy4816 um please read your own comment before replying others... quoted from you, "Uhm last time i checked when i apply to SMU i got the offer and a scholarship directly without needing to go for any aptitude test or anything? All SG universities are the same. Grade above everything else, don't park SMU above it like its some sort of anomaly. A 4.0 GPA poly grad and a 90RP jc graduate will be able to pass through the admission round easily for all 3 universities." It is not irrelevant at all if you did mention it in your OWN comment and i alr said i am correcting you on a part of your comment. so embarrassing. pls read ur own comment before replying thanks
