@@jvgreendarmok Absolutely cracking house isn’t it? I loved the astrological ceiling especially. Cardiff castle (or maybe it was Castel Coch…)has some similar horoscope stuff of the Marquis of Bute.
My Aunt had a Holiday Home in Port Banatyne, we always went down Team handed, Maw, Paw aw the Weans and all the Uncles and Aunties and Cousins, great times in the Sixties and seventies, from Glasgow 😊
Yea, I always book online just to make sure I've got a ticket and don't need to rush when I'm at the ferry terminal. But not sure how beneficial it is when Rail & Sail tickets aren't available 😊
I live opposite Bute on Loch Striven, looking over the water to Port Bannatyne & Rothesay and experience the full range of weather here....year in and year out. The mistake many people make when planning a holiday to Scotland is to assume that July and August are the sunniest months, where in fact they are May and June. But that in itself is just a rough guide. .... Its could be sunny and glorious when you visit or it could be atrocious and quite frankly depressing....but thats Scotland. We do often experience wonderful indian summers in September, but we also have Septembers with non stop rain, it is impossible to predict. As one lovely Glaswegian lady said to me once, "Its Scotland, you take what you get." But dont let any of what I've said deter you. It is a magical, beautiful country. The people are a joy, and i wouldn't live anywhere else. All the best, (From a Londoner who ran away from his home town and never regretted it.) 😊🏴
Short but sweet, maybe too short. Take a walk to the GLENBURN HOTEL climb those steps....sit outside and order a lovely pint...then enjoy the view across the bay whether it be rain hail or sunshine.
Agreed - it was a very short trip. That's why we've visited Bute several times since that trip 😊This is the latest Bute video: ruclips.net/video/nKRqvnuFq0w/видео.html
Great video. My wife and I are visiting Glasgow for a few days at the end of the month, so we are trying to plan things to do / see during our stay. Fuinnily enough my parents had their honeymoon in Rothesay in the 50s and as a child (in the 70s) they took me on a river trip from Glasgow, via Dunoon, Greenock to Rothesay. Sadly there doesn't seem to be any river trips now, but this could be an idea. Just hope my wife doesn't get sea sick 🤮 Regards from Whitley Bay
That sounds lovely! I don't think there are any river trips anymore either (at least I haven't heard of them). Bute is indeed an ideal day trip from Glasgow. And hopefully it would be a calm ferry crossing and sea sickness wouldn't be a problem!🤞😊
Hope you have a great time and good weather. You could do CalMac tips to Cumbrae (Millport), Bute (Rothesay) and Arran (Brodick) . In that order maybe building up your wife’s tolerance to the big rolling breakers😁. I love the last trip since you’ve time for a steak pie dinner and a 🍺.
I noticed also that there's much ado about tickets in your video script. Your viewers should note that you can use the Spirit of Scotland ticket which allows you to freely travel all round Scotland on days that you choose. Unfortunately, just this year (for the first time) ferries are no longer included. But cross country buses ARE.! (as of-course the trains don't go absolutely everywhere).
A Norwegian viking king spent a year in Rothesay and it was therefore the capitol of Norway that year... 1267 if I am not much wrong. I go there at least three times a year as I love Rothesay and the journey to and from. Now, I use the buses to and from Wemyss Bay. It is one of the top 5 attractions in the Glasgow area. I can write 20 000 more words about why... but I will leave it like that.
It definitely is one of the top attractions in the Glasgow area. Can't wait to go back to see more of the island!😊 I didn't know that about Rothesay...there's just so much interesting history!!😊
I guess you mean the ferry service? Yea, that will last. However, the Rail & Sail tickets weren't sold on Scotrail anymore, but ferry tickets can just be picked up at the ferry terminal and the ferry to Bute is pretty regular😊
Yes!! I couldn't remember the name. When a restaurant is this good, it deserves to be praised. p.s. My wife bought lovely meat from the buther too. Win -win.
Pity the castle was closed. we have a Bute Castle in Cardiff - actually, we have 2 Bute Castles, the other one is just beyond the northern edge of Cardiff.
Well I've subscribed - but it was a bit short. Also when you're expecting thousands of people to watch, more effort should be put into waiting for the right weather day. Remember, professional film crewes often have to hang around for days waiting for the right 'takes', sometimes having to sleep in tents.!!
Have you been to the Isle of Bute before?😊
Yes, on a field trip for University. We visited the Mount Stuart country house. 😍
Wow, I didn't know it was popular for field trips😍

First visit was in the 70s. Try Cumbrae too. Take or hire bikes to get the best out of it.
@TerryMcGearyScotland Oh yes, will be going to Cumbrae soon!😊

Yes, it is indeed 😊
The station is one of the most beautiful stations in the UK

Thanks for watching!😊x
How beautiful is this day trip on this wonderful route!
I agree - it's a brilliant day trip!😍
Thank you for sharing your amazing travels. I love the island of bute Its just beautiful ❤
Oh thank you😊❤️
I hope they still do the folk festival there. Good times! Marvellous shows in the castle and jamming all night and camping...

Directly opposite the Wemyss Bay train station is an excellent butcher's shop - with a wonderful restaurant attached. Try it! 😋

I believe the family did rather well out of Welsh coal mines. Not that they ever worked a shift themselves.
You just walked in to the mens restroom! 😂
Haha yea 😂
Usual dreich Scottish weather. Pity. The sun does shine on occasion and the filmed scenery is improved tenfold.
Yea, it's difficult to plan daytrips with the Scottish weather. But Isle of Bute is always worth a visit, regardless of the weather 😊
Price
Paid £12.85 (pp) for the train + ferry (return) ☺️
