    I recently visited a used tool stall here in UK and bought a vintage drill identical to yours with one exception - there is a large letter A cast into the frame below the top handle (mine also has the side handle still attached). I stripped it, cleaned it up, oiled it and all works great.

    I recently rebuilt one of these. I painted it with textured paint to look like hammered metal. It looks really nice and works great for drilling small holes -- and I appreciate the quiet operation, too.
    Nicely done! Your hand drill turned out beautifully.

    Excellent restoration! I'm restoring a Stanley eggbeater drill myself but has no wooden screw top to hold drill bits. Would you know of a way to remake the the top so it can screw back on? I'm clueless

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  2 года назад +1

      matching the threads is a pain. it can be done but it takes a TON of work and usually 15-20 tries unless you have both the right tools and experience.
      the most common solution is to make a plug that slides in and looks good on top. then smear the threads inside with petroleum jelly then epoxy in the plug. If done well then it will unscrew with a bit of force and now you have matching threads made with the epoxy. If not done well then you just glued the plug in place.

    Hi Great Video. I have a similar drill but to date have been unable to undo the chuck. I have applied WD40 and 3 in One oil and also soaked in mild oxalic acid. Where should I go next?

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  3 года назад

      Usually my order is penetrating oil with vibration. (Not WD-40 or lubricating oil.) If that doesn't work then next up it is heating the outside and trying to break it with that. If that doesn't work then you're into destructive methods.

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  2 года назад

      There's not any one good resource. Usually if I want to know about something in specific, I'll post it up on the unplugged woodworkers group on Facebook. There's usually someone there who is a collector of that particular style or brand.

    Do you have a restoration video for a brace? I have one that I think was my grandfather's. It works well enough that I use it as is, but the spring in the chuck is missing, and I'd love to know how to fix it.

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  3 года назад

      Unfortunately with brace chucks there are hundreds of different styles. and most companies had a couple different ones that they sold. I do have one old brace video but it's not very good and doesn't have much information on it. Sorry for being a lack of information here lol feel free to send me an email and pictures and I'll be glad to help you out.

    Belle restauration ! Dommage d'avoir peint partiellement la chignole. Je trouve qu'il aurait été préférable et plus joli, à mon goût, de laisser le métal dans sa couleur naturelle après polissage, quitte à enduire d'une légère couche de gras pour retarder l'oxydation. Merci pour le partage.
