    Wales is the most castle dense country in the world, with over 600 castles and loads of cute little villages surrounding them, JRR Tolkien used welsh to create the elvish language, the country where the legends of dragons, goblins, fairies, mermaids, giants, gryphons and King Arthur come from, was amazed when I visited hope to go again one day.

    • @wardarcade7452
      @wardarcade7452 2 месяца назад +1

      Are you sure that it's the most 'castle dense country'? I mean the Spanish region known as Castile has over 10,000 castles and fortifications and had been a separate kingdom of its own for centuries. Its name in Spanish ('castilla') means 'castle' in that language and it wasn't chosen by accident.

It's one of the most enchanting places in the world (in a fairytale sense) with a botanical garden filled with ornate stone architecture, grottoes and ponds. Also in the area is Monserrate Palace, a stunning example of Moorish Revival architecture like the Castello Di Sammezzano featured here, except it's actually open to the public.

    One should also consider the Royal Alcazar in Seville, Spain which is set in a spectacular citrus and floral garden and the castle itself has well-preserved breathtaking Moorish architecture from its days when it was the home of the ruler of the Taifa [Arab kingdom] of Seville. Oh, and despite the fact that it's located right smack in downtown Seville, thanks to its garden and surrounding garden walls, it's rather tranquil with the surrounding city noise and even pollution largely shut out. It's still a royal palace for the current monarch of Spain.

    Boldt Castle, on an island in the St. Lawrence river between New York state and Ontario, Canada is one which I would recommend, also the Grand Hotel atop Mount Mohonk in the Shawangunk mountains in upstate New York. The hotel was built in different sections, all in different architectural styles, over the years. A portion was built over a natural lake with a stone bed atop the mountain that has no outlet. There's also a lighthouse on top of the mountain called "The Mountain Tower", I recall hearing that one can see three states from the top of the tower, on a clear day. I've heard of the castle that's being built in France, using the ancient methods. Once the work is completed, hopefully the workers who built it won't get into a feud over who's castle it is, and the project will end in a huge battle where they all murder each other. (of course, using medieval weapons) Sitting up all night watching RUclips videos makes me have some strange thoughts.

    Not sure if they managed to restore Pamukkale in Turkey but when they built hotels at the top of the springs that used the water and reduced the water flow over the limestone terraces, they started turning brown. In the 80s, supposedly, they were bright white without algae and plants because more water was covering it at all times.

    Pamukkale is sadly dying. I recall from my trip there the town was syphoning too much water from the mountain.

    There is a similar small castle on the Emerald Bay of Lake Tahoe, maybe it's inspired by the Bled, Slovenia castle. There picture here referring to Hierapolis is actually Pamukkale, next to Hierapolis. The picture perfect blue "pools" are dried up now, since the hot springs are diverted to other directions. Tourist are require to remove their shoes to keep the surface white, security guards are watching. Although the "pools" are pretty to look at, but when you step on it, the tiny calcium deposits on the surface feels in needles on your feet. A few locals wore thick socks, I guess it was OK? Not shown here is the Cleo Petra hot spring pool, it will cost 50Lira to swim in this ancient pool. I choose to swim for 1.5 hours in the natural hot spring instead of walking up to the Hierapolis. I lost my museum pass while hiking up the Pamukkale and I had to wait for the security guards to figured out what I was talking about since their English were limited. Eventually they let me hike up the hill bare foot again to retrieve my museum pass at the guard station. Imagine race hiking on bare foot, it was not a good feelings, but I had to retrieved my Turkey all museum pass for the rest of my journey. There are many hot spring around the area, one is a hot spring underground, there were baby turtle swimming in it. Another small rust color hot spring was so hot it can boil eggs in it!
