  • This was the easiest solid axle swap I have done! I swapped in a 1994 Ford Dana 60 from a F-350 into my 1996 F-250. All that was required was in unbolting the twin traction beam suspension, and bolting in the F-350 suspension components. I used a shackle reversal crossmember from Sky's offroad to get a better riding suspension during the process, but it is not necessary.

    Can't believe that janky aluminum pitman arm puller actually worked without breaking! I bought one of the conical ones finally and it doesn't mess around.

      I couldn't believe it either! Did you notice I had a scatter shield across my face and a pipe on a breaker bar 🤣
      I have the best luck with a breaker bar and BFH, turn a little, smack with hammer, turn a little smack with hammer. I've broke tons of these POS

      The trick to those pullers is to hammer on the end of the screw/pin once its tight, then tighten some more/ repeat. I always bend or break them if I dont do that. @@RecklessWrenchGarage

    I did the same thing to my '86 but did use aftermarket springs for a little lift. The Bilstein shocks that you used are also what I used and I can't say enough about them, A noticeable improvement to the ride. I did not move the shackles and I am perfectly happy with the ride. I'd love to see a comparison to see if the shackle kits really makes a difference.

      I think the shackle reversal helps, and is probably much more noticable offroad

      What lift did you use? I just bought a 4 inch lift/leveling kit from rough country for my 86 f350. Haven’t installed it year

      I wish I could remember whose springs I got. Maybe soft ride or something of that sort? Sorry. They are very well made , very tough. Maybe they all use similar springs? They claimed about a 3" lift but it seems like it's closer to 6" @@akajonesy4388

    Ride quality actually is worse with the shackle in front with flat leafs. Or at least not any better. With a flat leaf spring and shackle in front it will move towards the back of the truck. With a flat leaf and shackle in the rear it is moving towards the front of the truck. Fighting the natural movement. Now with arched lift springs it is the opposite.

    Great vid. Thanks! Did you have to lift the rear at all? I hear the F250 has about a 2 in block and F350 has a 4 inch. Any knowledge you can impart?

    • @RecklessWrenchGarage
      @RecklessWrenchGarage  4 месяца назад

      You are correct. The F350 has a 2 inch taller lift block to match the increased height from the front axle tube. I just took the lift block from the 350 that came with the springs and axle

    You are doing exactly what I have planned. I'm living vicariously thru you. Have the sky kit with SD springs to go up front on mine too. It looks like it sits nice and level with the factory rears. How much lift did you get up front?

    • @RecklessWrenchGarage
      @RecklessWrenchGarage  6 месяцев назад +1

      It lifted the front maybe 2 inches. The back is about .5 inch lower with the factory super duty block, the truck is very close to being level

  • @jacedavis9265

    if I am adding a 4 inch lift and these reverse shackle kits does the 4 inch front lifted shock work ? or do I need to get taller ones ?

    Why would you want to swap out the F250 TTB? I mean, you’ve already got all of the benefits of rough riding leafs, crappy tire wear, and oddball axle parts.
    Joking aside, it’s a good looking truck, now that way it should have left the factory.

    Is that why those trucks sync with concrete highways the forward shackles hmm
    Maybe not cause the jeeps had that and don’t sync maybe cause the wheel base ah never mind

      forward shackles are better offroad, rear shackles better on road

    I see you went from 3 leafs to 2 leafs. I'll be doing the same, a 'custom' 3 leaf like yours back to 2 leafs with the RSK kit. My question, how did that effect the lift? Just from what i can see it looks like about a 2" lift from before to after, or did you do something else to the ride height?

    • @RecklessWrenchGarage
      @RecklessWrenchGarage  4 месяца назад +1

      I got 2 inches of lift from the RSK. The leaf springs don't change the loft amount since I went from stock TTB springs to the stock f350 solid axle springs that the kit is designed to use

    Excellent job! The only thing I would have tried to do differently if possible would have been to install the U-bolts with the nuts on top instead of on the bottom, just to minimize any catching with random stuff off road. But then again, I am a RUclips computer master mechanic. What do I know, right? 🤣🤣

    Guys, your even better off getting an 05 and up super duty front axle. Get the springs, arms, axle, etc. The coil spring front end is absolutely hands down a better ride in every way.

    • @RecklessWrenchGarage
      @RecklessWrenchGarage  6 месяцев назад +1

      No argument here, the ride of a coil spring and radius arm suspension is better. It's just a lot more work and a lot more money. You have to get many more parts to make the setup work on the older trucks and you need either the matching rear axle or wheel adapters since the bolt pattern is different. This axle swap was the path of least resistance. I would much rather have a link suspension but the time and money isn't worth it to me yet.
