Got my first Casioak this week. Went for the new midnight fog version. Metal case, smaller case size, positive display. Dare I say it, it actually looks quite classy.

Funny thing is this watch isn’t trying to homage the Royal Oak, but the 1974 Casio-tron, which also had eight sides. Turns out the whole “Royal Oak” homage thing was a coincidence.
Still a great looking watch and one of my favorites in my collection!

Cadisen Royale Oak homage is banger. It's only over-saturated on the internet. In person, I'd bet you $1000 if you ran into someone wearing that watch after a month of looking.

The sole wrong you can do with a G-Shock as tool and casual watches is picking the incorrect size. That's why i only consider the 5600 series and believe that branding the "Baby-Gs" as "female" makes very little sense: there should be a sturdy G-Shock model for every wrist size.

I wouldn’t say that you are wrong. I mean it’s a personal preference of course but G-Shocks are allowed to be larger 😉. It’s G-Shock baby. Most of them are made like that and that’s it. They are not Police or Diesel that are utterly ugly and too big. This is a robust sports tool watch made not to be destroyed easily. Even women or kids can rock them because it’s, well G-Shock.

Hey Jory, If you press the mode and light button at the same time the hands move away from the digital display. They go back if you press the buttons again but it still helps when trying to read the digital display.

I feel it's unfair to call an Oak homage to every octagonal shaped watch. It's like saying all round watches are homages of Patek Philippe, Breguet or Robert Dudley or whatever.
The Tough Solar / Bluetooth version of this watch is coming in May 2022. Sales will be going through the roof. I was also not intetested on this G-Shock, starting with the CasiOak nickname, which I hate (BTW, CASIO has indicated that, actually, the design is a homage to the original DW-5600C G-Shock and its octogonal bezel, which is decades older than the PPh.. It has nothing to do with it) Now, I may actually get it.
I always wanted a G Shock, but felt they were just far too thick. Then this came out.
Bought it immediately in 2019.
Fantastic watch and as tough as they come.
Use it for camping, outdoor sports, work, all sorts really. It’s a proper scratched up mess now, but works as well as the day I bought it.

Great watch. I have this same model and it is a great lesson for those after the Swatch Moonswatch. Remember, this G-Shock was huge, selling at 2 or 3 times retail when it originally came out. Completely sold out everywhere. I put an order in, waited 10 months and got it at retail. Happy to wait, no problem. Don't fall for hype.
I have both the casioak and the moonswatch (retail) and the quality of the casio blows the moonswatch out of the water. Don't pay markup, hype will die soon

Just buy the red one from a store. Dude, they are cheap. Macy's has a 25% off sale and has them. Tilly's has them on discounted too. Zumies also. Zappos also (they email $35 off coupons all the time).
Homage watches are great when the original costs more than a house or a Porsche. Next time you see an incredible sports car, consider how many tiny little watches cost more. It is madness.
I get that you're tired of Royal Oak homages and the casioak kits but there's something to be said for a water resistant, shock resistant watch that comes on a brushed metal bracelet that will never suffer a spring bar failure or the resin cracking. Just my two cents as a field geologist with one of the metal converted ga2100's.

I dig that it's a weather-proof beater without looking like GI Joe vomited tech. I've never been interested in G-Shocks or Ironman watches because I always found them cartoonish, and sometimes nearly gas station knife-level of ugly...My A1 looks pretty swank by comparison.

I'm definitely swapping mine into the metal case, just my thoughts. I'm not paying nearly $600 for the GMB2100D-1A. Granted it's a nice watch but the swap can be done for half the cost and still look great.
I'm loving the modularity ecosystem that is building up around this model. It has the the quick release straps, along with the crazy colorways so they're very fun to mix and match if you keep investing into anything GA-2100.
All the G-Shock are. I like that they're all moddable. I can even put DW5600 strap on DW6900, just because of its stock strap is so disappointing for me

Cool watch, can’t argue with the price. Arguably you could say that the GShock design has always had the octagonal look to many of their watches. Granted, the CasioOak is and obvious “homage” but at least it is t too blatant.

My daily wear! I love it... just hate the strap. So I went out got a special NATO strap adapter and an all black NATO strap. Also wish the buttons were bigger. My sausage fingers struggle to push the smoll buttons.
Hard to read. Too few people note that. The models with contrasting indices are much more usable as a result.
I bought the gray one on a whim a year ago and was surprised how much I ended up wearing it. Stylish looking beater and feels so light on the wrist, I've enjoyed this one.
Say what you want about those $70 AliExpress RO style cases, but the bracelets are better machined than any of the seiko’s under $500. The clasp is precisely milled and the anodizing has proven to be more durable than the PVD on my SRPD79. Oh and they come with screw in links
I've been complimented on my Ali modded 2100 more than just about any watch in my collection!
@@Jesterian I would have a whole collection out of the 2100 in ali cases if they weren't so homage looking. The bracelet is kinda stiff at first but after some time it articulates more and now it fits my wrist perfectly.
My $400 seiko prospex on the other hand comes with stamped clasp with wobbly fitment...

Hold Light and press Mode to move the hands away from the display. Repeat to bring them back to analog time.

I definitely put one in the "royal oak" bracelet. No regrets. The bracelt is my favorite thing about the royal oak and ill never pay more than 10k for a watch let alone just for a bracelet.

I guess these watches are very good BUT dial and hands are in the most variations just dull and obscure. I do not even speak about the digital displays. Or in other words: The legibility is very bad.
This is a watch for people who love watches. The ani-digi display is the best of both worlds - giving quick time readout with the digital display as well as a spatial relation time readout with the analogue hands. Why I say it’s for watch lovers: the analog part is actually celebrated more than the digital part. The style is beautiful, and the comfort and sizing is superb. To boot the backlight is so practical and that fade-out on the LED…chefs kiss
Mate...why are you reading all the stuff that doesn't need to be read in the specifications...your making it sounds more complicated than it is......g shocks don't litterally do everything .they are relatively low in complications compared to other Casio's.

Go with the DW5600. I’ve had mine since the mid 90’s. Wore it at work(labor intensive),played ball with it on, basically beat the shit out of it for almost 3 decades. Best times of my life with that watch on my wrist and although it’s a bit worn in certain spots, it still works like a champ.
Lowkey hate that Tudor feels the need to put snowflake hands on everything. Ruins many of their watches imho. Also, love my 5610 based sub $300 MR-G clone. Titanium case/bracelet is more comfortable than the resin. Well worth ~$100 on the aftermarket. Not worth whatever multi-thousand dollar price G-shock charges for the real MR-G.
My Gshock has a problem with the led light. Got it in 2010 in Shanghai for 120 bucks. Can't seem to find a reasonable solution for this problem. So I'm just gonna keep it...
Im sorry but I just want to comment on this video. First off, this guy must not have done much research or read the instructions on this watch because you can move the hands from obstructing the display. Second, what you call a “con” is more of just a personal preference issue. Calling the display size a con is to imply that this was some kind of oversight or mistake on Casios part. It’s not! This is how they felt the design should be and people love the design of this watch. They also make a bunch of analog/digital watches that have full dial digital displays. So go buy those. Another thing I wanted to point out is that you complain about how difficult it is to read the date and seconds on the tiny display, however it’s very likely that the date and seconds displayed on this watch are about the same size they would be if they were on other full sized digital watch faces. So the display size is irrelevant unless your eyesight is so bad that you need some kind of geriatric, jitterbug looking watch display with large a** numbers. Your entitled to your opinion but to say that is a con is a stretch, just personal preference. Had they made it with a full digital display behind the hands, I would not like it at all. I find those style of g shocks to be tacky, they are digital watches with hands tacked on. This is a futuristic analog watch that uses a small digital display for additional features. There is a difference with this watch and why I think ppl love it.
You doubted the CasiOak?! I unknowingly got it as my first watch when i got into collecting. Yet another video where you give/gave a horrific take on a very proven watch model. I liken you to the human equivalent of Hublot. But Hublot atleast has some style and people know who they are.
I really don't think Casio tried to make an homage with this one; it's a coincidence. The customer base for G-Shock is many times larger than the watch enthusiast segment. I never wanted one until I saw the Natural Colors Series version, which I ordered today immediately upon seeing it.

It's not a copy of the AP Royal Oak. It's a riff on the original G-Shock, which had a semi-hexagonal case. Look it up.

honestly the negative display is what kills it for me. its bad enough trying to read the time with a negative display with a square gshock even though its a big screen, and having a negative display on the casioak thats even smaller is a downfall for the watch. i hate that all the cool colors id want to get has a negative display

I got the ECB10 when the GA2100s were completely unavailable. Not as sleek as the 108, but arguably oakier.
@@WashashoreProd not my cup of tea with all the subdials. I prefer 3 handers, I have the S108D and as of yesterday, I put it on a custom cut, aged leather strap. Looks like a thousand bucks, to me at least. I'm waiting on a rubber strap to do the same and have a couple alternatives for the rotation. I'm also considering getting the white dial version of the s108d too lol
Lume sucks, screen too small. That's my review. But yeah, the case shape is cool. Practicality wise though, it gets a D+.
Grams are not a unit of weight but of mass. If you want to convey weight in metric you should use newtons. Physics 101.
Bought the blue/gray a couple years ago and I like it more than I thought I would. I wear it more than I thought I would. If Casio could jam Mudmaster features in it I would be all over it.

Love mine, it wears great and it's a cool G shock in my opinion.
My only issue with this watch is the strap. I have one and needed to buy a fabric strap. The element that joins the case is too firm and inflexible.
I've literally worn one of my pieces (cyberpunk one) thrice for a few hours and there are signs of me wearing it on all of three places on the strap now. Then bought one with a mod that's just 100% like the original and without these ugly Hublot AP pills. NOW I'm feeling amazing.

I wish you gave this video a bit more thought. Another con of this model are the non-lumed hour markers. They went and painted on pips above the markers but didn't lume them. There are ugly aftermarket lume kits for these but I wish they just used lume instead of paint.
