I keep blankets and sleeping bags plus food in my vehicles
I have BOB (Bug Out Backpack) with clothes and toiletries by my door for wildfire season, and always keep a blanket, spare coat, boots and SOCKS (very important) in my car😊
Nice to have you back! Great advice
Thanks!
Wow! A lot of prep. Glad you’re feeling better, just pace yourselves, too close to winter to relapse. Prayers for continued healing and good health.
Getting to the winter gear part, even here in Utah I keep a used military modular sleep system in my truck all year long. So if I ever get stuck or something happens I have a good sleep system that'll give me a lot of options to stay warm depending on the weather.
Thank you for reminding us of how behind we are preparing for winter.
@@LifeinAlaska ha! No problem, friends. No problem.
I don't live in a real snow country, but my mother gave me the advice to have a tea light in the car in the winter, so if your car breaks down you have some kind of heat source.
Smart
I got exhausted just listening to all you have to do for winter...lol I hope it all gets done 😊
Ha! Yep! We need a nap. 💤
Great points!
Thanks!
Hey wake up your goat is trying to give you some hay.
Ha! He is so cute. He walks around all day with hay in his mouth. So funny!
The thumbnail is my favorite thing. Hope you're recovering from the plague ok!
Getting there. Thanks!

You two are so fun😄 and ya got Alaska smarts. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I've learned first-hand and wowie sometimes it hurt! That was way before internet and you tube.
Thankfully (and also unfortunately coz I'm now disabled), I'm to where I live a less physically demanding life, and get to enjoy watching others live my dream🥰
Loved Billy Goat Gruff offering to share his mouthful with Reeve😆
We’re glad you enjoyed it! That little guy is Heath. He’s so sweet.
Had to believe we are already talking about winter. It always seems no matter how prepared you think you are, you are never ready enough. At least for me anyways haha. Glad you are both feeling better.
@@marlenereimchen9141 thanks friend!
So your goat looks like he is getting himself ready for winter. Not sure if he wants it as a bed, food or a comfort blanket but he's getting ready lol
You forgot a winter prep though. Stack that pantry with food. If you get sick and snowed in you still need food. Mainly cookies i think lol
Heath is so funny. He’s always walking around with that hand in his mouth. So cute! My pantry is always stocked because sometimes shipping shuts down to Alaska. It’s not a wintertime prep. it’s all the time prep. Ha! Be blessed friend.
@@FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska So maybe a video of things you always need. Or things to think about moving or living in Alaska xx
It’s on the list sweet friend. 💕💕
Really good video! I also keep an extra warm blanket or two in my vehicle during winter months. I love your goats!
So smart! My mom used to keep blankets too! Cheaper than a second set of winter gear for a bunch of kiddos.

The main reason why those boots can be rated for such low temperatures is that they contain at least a full inch of insulation all around, even *after* compression, so yes, on the soles as well as the uppers!

I just found your channel and absolutely love your sense of humor. As a life long Alaskan as well, my winter gear bag has some snacks, matches, handwarmers, blanket and of course a shovel!!
Nice to meet you neighbor! Ooooh! Snacks! I better add those. Be blessed friend.
l live in northern Alberta, so long 6-8 month winters and -45C is the norm for too many days...but i keep extra boots, gloves, scarves and hats in my vehicle, plus a down blanket and a quilt, as well as coffee can with candles and matches, and some dried food as well. Winter days are very short, but like Alaska, the summer days are longer, I think Alaska has even longer days than we do with close to 24 hrs of daylight (great for growing lol)
My mom always kept a blanket in our vehicles too. Smart. Thanks for watching friend. Stay warm over there, neighbor. 😊
I am scared, still so much to do to get ready for my first winter. But this helped me make a list.

Poor green house! So do you have one set of tires for summer and one for winter and you switch twice a yr every year? Love Mr. tanks name! Al Dente 😂 super clever! Great video with some great info! ❤
Yep. 2 sets of tires. Summer tires and winter tires. We usually do tire changeover in late April and late October.
I'm glad to see you two are vertical and ventilating, even with the residual coughing. We usually put our studded tires on as soon as it's legal, but we don't have to drive as much as you two do. I'll escape to the post office once or twice a month (sad to say that's a year round schedule, not just winter😂 and maybe hit the "big town" every month or two as needed. My plan this year is to clear all the fuel tanks and vehicles after each storm or maybe each day during a storm. Hopefully, it will be much easier that way. I'm also planning on snowshoeing in a race track for our pittie to zoom around in. Exercise for both of us😂.
I'm glad you two are on the mend and feeling better. Plague recovery is rough.
@@DSmith-ss8jo I love that you are snowshoeing a race track for your pupper. That’s real Alaska stuff right there!

Our hairy ladies, Holly and Juniper, keep all unwanted guests away. 😊
FYI if you drive through Canada, stud tires are not legal here, so we chain up.
@@SusanA1056 Wow! Do you run chains all winter or only when it gets really yucky?
@@FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska lol. We use chains only outside of cities or towns and use "winter" tires all winter. (From October to March as a rule.)
@SusanA1056 ah! Thanks!
I would add, battery warmer/s on low temp T-Stat , and Syn oils.
@@edwardcarberry1095 We live off grid on a 2000 W system so plugging anything in isn’t really an option for us. Our vehicles do pretty well. We have extra batteries that we keep warm in the cabin. When it’s really cold, we’ll just swap them out. Thanks for watching.
@@FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska The battery warmers are 2x 60W so not too much for draw. But yes I know what you mean. then to plug in for a couple of hrs before starting . easier on the engine.
@edwardcarberry1095 sweet! We’ll have to look into it. It’s usually only the side-by-side and the tractor that we ever have an issue with. That would be fabulous for those two vehicles though. We use them so often in the winter time.
You forgot to tell the people how you keep your outhouse warm, lol. You got some good points to tell people. Reeve should be eating a cookie while your talking, lol.

When is cold cold like really really really really really really really cold don’t you put a heater for them to keep them more?❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
In Austria, they got 1 m of snow already
@@simonemoreno4324 nope. We condition them to adjust. They will cuddle if they get cold. 💕 They need lots of bedding, warm water and extra calories. That helps their outsides and insides stay warm. Goats stomachs act as their internal heaters. When they digest their food, they make lots of heat in their tummies. So we always make sure they have lots and lots of food in the winter.
Hi Chrystal and Reeve, yes, it's definitely time for getting that garden gathered. So I'm wondering about the snow ❄️ with the goats 🐐 . Will you have access to remove it so they can play and potty outside of tiny sleep area?
Definitely! The cuddle hut is for sleeping. The 3 sided shed is so they can hang out but still be out of the snow and wind. Then they have a huge run area that we snowblow clear. That’s where they eat and get their warm water and stretch their legs and play…and cause mischief. Ha!
