  • With the release of Lyney, Freminet and Neuvillette, as well as the eventual inclusions of Wriothesley, Furina, Navia, Clorinde, Arlecchino and Charlotte, Genshin Impact's meta appears to be in the midst of changing significantly. Today I wanted to make a video speculating the direction of Genshin's meta based on Fontaine's characters.

    Considering the recent Fontaine 5-star characters and Furina's leaked kit, I have a feeling that most, if not all, 5-star characters from Fontaine that are involved in the archon quest are hypercarries, and Furina is the ultimate support that buffs them all.

      We know furina is gonna be a hyperbuffer and Charlotte a healer, I think navia's gonna be a support/subdps with healing elements, clorinde is gonna be a 4 star electro dps, sigewinne is a healer and buffer.

      @@celestialhumanoid I don’t think Clorinde will be a 4-star. She’s one of the 5-star units that were leaked way before 4.0. If Hoyoverse continues the trend, both Navia and Clorinde will be carries. So far, each Fontaine 5-star unit represents a carry from each element. This may be the reason why Furina directly buffs damage instead of attack or hp so that she can be a universal buffer for these Fontaine carries.

    If leaks are to be believed, Navia's arrival will come with "changes" to geo, either geo will get a rework or her kit specifically will change the way you use the geo element.
    I hope its a rework, so other geo characters can get some love too, instead of just her. And as someone who has Gorou, Yunjin AND Noelle all at C6, I would love to make a mono geo team in the new meta.

      In my case, I think the game would switch up to giving specific buffs/debuffs. Sort of like Mona's burst which applies a unique debuff that only she has. But currently, it's hard to see how the game would go forward once Natlan and Snezhnaya releases. Chances are, they'll even stop trying to change up the meta and just release units that can go with the already established metas; reaction heavy quickswaps, hypercarry, or mono element teams. But I would certainly like to see more characters like NIlou in the future, units that can alter the reaction they deal.

  • @dustinabigan2776
    @dustinabigan2776 11 месяцев назад +89

    I do hope the meta does change significantly after every major patch because it gives more past characters an opportunity to shine instead of just the same old units being meta. In a way it's kind of a win-win for Hoyoverse to also switch things up a bit to encourage players to try something new, which extends to being pushed to pull on new units out of interest. It would be interesting how Navia in particular would play out though considering she's the first Geo unit since Yun Jin, and it could set the precedent for what Geo would be in the future. Assuming she releases in 2024, that's a 2-year gap for a new Geo unit, which is even longer than the time people had to wait for a Eula rerun.
    Side note about the attack speed comment. Apparently you can't reach 200%, it caps at 160% for normal attacks (at least based on the Wiki) and anything more than that has no effect on the unit. If I have to guess why attack speed is less talked about mainstream (aside from maybe C6 Yun Jin) is probably down to how elemental reactions have ICDs at a time when reactions became the name of the game.

    I would like to see a new mechanic in Natlan or Snezhnaya where you're allowed to have 2 on-fielders in the team. Mihoyo has been testing out their character AI since Sumeru (Rana in Aranara Quests, Jeht in the Desert Quest) and more in the the Fontaine World Quests. Imagine if you can have Childe & Hu Tao dealing damage at the same time, that'd be really cool.

    • @K-dis_Boher
      @K-dis_Boher 11 месяцев назад +19

      the fact she's shown using the Whiteblind suggests she's DEF scaling; unless they're back to pairing characters with unsynergistic weapons, that almost entirely confirms her to be DEF scaling
      I'm hoping that her DEF scaling is then converted somehow into like HP or EM where she'll still scale off of DEF like other geo characters, but instead converts it into an actually useful stat
      this is just completely baseless speculation which could be entirely untrue, but I think it'd be cool if she changed the meta around crystalize by making her DEF convert into EM, and then having some kind of mechanic that "explodes" crystalize chunks and shields dealing damage based on her EM, possibly even spreading elements when they explode; that way, since she's still DEF scaling, and makes use of crystalize, she can still benefit greatly from geo's go-to support Gorou; that way geo would still have it's primary meta comp of mono geo, but she'd change it up a lot to act more like Nilou + Kaveh in one as opposed to the current unga-bunga-smash-face-with-rock mono geo meta
      AND it could allow her to have a place in non-mono-geo teams making her like a two in one crystalize-shielder and pseudo-swirl-er

      @@iyxon they specifically chose to use her with Whiteblind out of all claymores in the game; if they just wanted to use a F2P 4-star why wouldn't they just use the fontaine craftable one as opposed to Whiteblind?
      You also gotta look at the fact that Chlorinde used Iron Sting, with that being an EM weapon, and thanks to dendro, electro and EM pair well so it makes sense for her to be using it; if Navia ISN'T DEF scaling, it'd be really weird to pair Navia with Whiteblind despite all the other available options
      Also the Yun Jin and Freminet examples are honestly worse than examples from like 1.0, cuz Dragonsbane is kinda established as like the iconic polearm of Liyue, so it was just copy-pasted onto Yun Jin since there's no DEF polearm for her to use; and while Freminet is not directly HP scaling, the Bell's passive synergizes with him pretty well, so the HP scaling is just there to boost the shield from the passive

    The way I see it, Hoyo really just wants to reduce the sense of redundancy in the game. Let's be fair, even if you switch up the characters in the team, every quick swap teams works the same way. You go in with your main reaction enabler, switch to your buffer, then go in for the elemental reaction.
    Hypercarry teams on the other hand doesn't have the same sense of redundancy since it's entirely based on the character you're using and their kit. For example, a Yoimiya hypercarry and a Hutao Hypercarry feels different even though you're doing the same rotation with both of them. Bennet burst, XInqiu burst, Zhongli shield, then going ham on the enemies. They feel different enough because Yoimiya use NA and Hutao use CA. Compare this to a quick swap hyperbloom team, a team with Nahida, Kokomi, and Shinobu will be doing the exact same thing as a team with Dendro Traveler, Barbara, and Dori. Their kits are different, but in the end, they're doing the exact same thing of creating dendro cores and hitting them with electro.

    • @migueltucabron
      @migueltucabron 11 месяцев назад +2

      I feel like you're confusing hypercarry with On-field DPS. A hypercarry does rely on his own power to do damage. Neither Yoimiya nor Hutao do that. Both of them are ususally played as Vapa On-field DPS. Xiao on the other hand does solely rely on his own damage and his supports just increase his power not enable his reactions.

      Interesting that you compared Yoimiya to Hu Tao with supports of Bennett/Xingqiu/Zhongli because I don't think that combination is optimal for either of them. For Hu Tao, replacing Bennett with Yelan will give a huge damage boost since Yelan's hydro resonance with Xingqiu and additional hydro damage will surpass the buff you get from being in Bennett's circle. Meanwhile Yoimiya runs well with Bennett or Zhongli but not both, and she benefits from Yelan and/or Yun Jin on her team. If you wanted to compare the two together, double hydro + Zhongli is a more reasonable comparison.

Like 90 Energy cost characters, Dendro/electro related reaction characters needed for new bosses (Pyramid thingy boss in Abyss). Now in Fontaine they had pyro slimes only on Floor 11 1 phase and no characters other than Ayato has that much hydro application that is needed. Xiao and Scara are great at speedrunning too, specially Xiao at lower constellations, and Scara at high constellations.

    • @UncleMerlin
      @UncleMerlin 11 месяцев назад

      @@yaelitamarverdugoayala4782 Gorou doesn't buff Geo units as hard as Faruzan but Geo teams are self-contained. You're always going to have your central core with Itto or Noelle surrounded by Gorou, Albedo and Xiangling or Yunjin. Together, the support that the entire team gives to Itto is arguably more than what Faruzan does alone.
      Also, Geo hyperteams with as much investment as the anemo hypers clear just as fast. They share a lot of common with being able to be versatile in a vast range of content due to both Anemo and Geo reacting with basically everything and removing elemental shields and gimmicks.
      imo the key difference isn't their power level but the way they approach content with Anemo teams having better grouping and Geo teams being nigh unkillable with inherent crystalize reactions on top of shields and their high defense.
      It doesn't make sense to say that Itto-Noelle Geo teams are bad when that's blatantly false.

    The thing about Geo, is that it's not a bad element in concept, but bad in execution.
    Geo could very easily be a solo element that doesn't rely on reactions and just relies on party members of the same element, a brute force element pretty much like how it already is, but much like how Vars said in his video about Physical, it's a "Go all in or don't do it at all" situation.

Just imagine what kind of punishment we get for having Furina, such as maxHP% damage or teamwide Bonds of Life that deal % of max Hp each tick, so like Bond of Death. With Furina, our team becomes more durable, and the characters can shrug off more damage with higher Hp or easier to recover, but that gets counteracted by damage that is based on your max HP.

So you'd solely build Crit rate on herself and Crit DMG on the team, and given many Cryo units use Crit DMG in their kits like Blizzard Strayer Ayaka. You'd also reliably use Fav weapons so she could even have abysmal ER problems because her team would be providing her with energy.

    It goes without saying that there is no constant "Meta". The enemy mechanics change for every new major update. The new enemies require a mechanic from the new character to be damaged further. For example, the Pneuma/Ousia Arkhe system is exclusive for Fontaine characters, you'll need them to weaken the newly bosses and elites. In Sumeru, Elemental Reactions are encouraged since that's where the newly added Dendro character shine such as against Herald bosses. While in the Old meta from the Ver.1.0, characters with high attack stats and stagger inducing heavies such as Diluc and Razor were the useful ones since the enemies can be staggered and shields are barely bypasses by normal attack, which are now obsolete since by Inazuma update, we get high crit dmg characters to One-shot the Monds/Liyue enemies. Hoyo yet again covers it all by adding enemies with Million HP and so on. But doing so makes old characters (Like Diluc) meant for the old meta irrelevant which makes investment a waste. I remember the old days where Normal Attacks still felt usable without the Burst effect of Xinqui and Yelan but now it's just considered a DPS loss cuz of "chase the clock" challenges. Hoyo needs to add a fresh moveset for ALL old characters to encourage variety of teams instead of using a tedious meta slave cycle.

    I was thinking for a while and I wanted to hear other's opinions: Do you think Geo would be a more desired element if there was another way to interact with the reaction-crystals? It could be similar to dendro cores or something completely new, maybe only specific characters could do something with them or maybe there could be a rework on the element/reaction to do more with crystalize reactions other than just providing a weak shield
    My first idea was that there could be a Geo character that if they hit the crystals they could shatter and deal damage to everyone who is close, kinda similar to burgeon but maybe there could be something new added to it.

    • @lordcockula683
      @lordcockula683 11 месяцев назад

      Tbh i think even just having crystallise do dmg on hit is a good start. I find it super disappointing when hydro and cryo feezes but doesn't do damage, and when crystallise + any elements just creates a shield. Sure archaic petra buffs your shield, and em influences the strength, but seeing stats influence damage, and elemental reactions doing damage is the entire reason i'm playing.
      I love xiao but i'm constantly looking for teams where he's a driver.
      I love albedo but i hate how using him instead of another same element unit would mean the rest would need more ER.
      Your idea would be cool if picking up the shield created an elemental earthquake, which each affecting units and elements on them differently

    Or something like Resonate, when hit by Geo attack, consumes the Geo Aura and inflict an AOE Geo attack that doesn't apply Geo aura.
    Or buffing Crystalize so that characters with Crystalize shield deals Aoe damage when doing Geo attacks.

    I think Hoyo is gonna make a special mechanic that gets weirder and weirder with each region. Inazuma was about characters whose damage scales with something other than attack. Sumeru was about EM and reactions (specifically dendro). Fontaine is all about HP draining, high risk high reward gameplay. My theory for Natlan is that it will specialize in elemental application, specifically gaining bonuses to damage and other stats based on what element is applied to you or your enemies. I think this because the first bit of lore from Natlan we got was from the Talking Stick club, which has one of the strangest passive talents ever. Also the lava walker set does something similar and it’s connected to a person who went to the Mare Jivari. A location that will most likely come out right before Natlan or during 5.0. I have no clue what the mechanic in 6.0 would be tho since our only reliable source of info for it is childe, his weapon, and little bit from the other fatui characters, who haven’t given us much yet. Perhaps damage over time. They experimented with it in Star Rail, plus it’s supposed to be super cold so like giving enemies frostbite or making burning a viable reaction. Maybe geo gets a weathering mechanic. Another idea would be elements giving very specific debuffs to your enemies. Cryo has frozen and superconduct which debuffs enemies and being affected by cryo slows your movement. Maybe something like using electro on a robot enemy short circuits it, or hitting an enemy with a lot of armor with an anemo attack blows some of it off and lowers their defense. It could be cool to see that happening and I like the way hoyo is dealing with the identity of a nation. Giving the characters of that nation their own mechanic makes them feel more connected to each other and really gives a sense of them being a part of that nation. I also hope Hoyo realizes this for the older nations and try to come up with a mechanic for the characters of that nation for both future and current characters.

    no matter how goog a team is, if it dsnt have a hypercarry, i dont care for it. i find switching beween chars every few seconds really annoying. That is also wh yi dont really like most buffers, the buffs just dont last long enough to be worth how much time i have to dedicate in to aplying them.
    Take for example Candace, her Burst buffs for 12 sec, but 15% to 20% of that duration is lost just on switching trough your team. granted she also deals dmg with her waves on switch, but that feels more like a bandaid, since i could also just have been that and not give us hydro infusion. Having a hypercarry like Ito or Noelle that can snapshot Goros buff means i can focus simply on swinging my bonk stick and interact with the combat and not needning a shid or some other kind of hyperarmor to protect me from being staggerd out of my rotation.

    Kaveh's A1 passive has self-healing (upon taking dendro core dmg) mechanics as well despite using EM for the heal, so like, maybe he was made with Fontaine in mind?

    I wish enemies would take increased fall and shatter damage. That might be the next direction they'd take, by manipulating gravity or something. It might revive geo too.

    Yet another amazing entry in stating the obvious for anyone paying even remote attention to the game's meta.
    Wanna list off the reactions next to pad runtime? Lol

    I think another great things about Genshin is they have a really great way of making sure that past character doesn't become obsolete unlike other Gacha out there where they essentially killed off a lot of their old character in favor of hyper powercrept, for example Diluc although not as prevalent as 1.0 is very much usable and can still be played effectively with the ever changing new interaction added to the game and yes you can still 36 star the abyss with 1.0 character easily

    I guess Physical and Geo had been ignored for too long that they need some update as well.
    Hoping Navia will bring something new to geo.

    More focus on character's personal damage would be really nice for those who play 'waifu over meta' and end up with... suboptimal team compositions. I actually struggle against some of the newer enemies because I like and use mostly off-meta characters that don't really synergise, such as multiple main dps or only supports. (Yes, I am aware that this is technically playing the game wrong. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be at least doable to an extent). That and it is disgustingly time consuming to level characters to a usable state late game so being able to carry weaker units so you can use new ones sooner would be a dream.

    well, and Dehya was supposed to get the retroactive bump she needed, right?
    Nice material, yes I feel the shift in the meta, but honestly i attribute it to a market strategy, my 5cents

    A geo character i jusged based on how strong they are as a character instead of how strong their reactions are or how they can buff Itto😂

    I guess it's more "video 4" than day 4 at this point?
    Regardless thank you for another great discussion video as per usual vars

    I'm French and Maréchaussée is pronounced ma-ray-sho-ssay. It's an old French word referring to the police and military police.
    Thought that would help. ;-)

    I'm a huge fan of hypercarry characters, as it gives them more time to shine on-field, than to quickly swap between a bunch of characters and turn your screen into a flashing discoball
    One such example is Wanderer, he is my absolutely favorite character and my main, his playstyle is very comfortable for me and I enjoy the fact he spends most of the time on-field until his flight runs out and it's time for buffs again. Yes, hypercarries do require more investment, but I think it makes them all the more fun. I'm glad Hoyo is finally expanding on the idea of making mono-element and hypercarry teams. Quickswap is definitely convenient and more profitable, as well as practical, but it gets old and chaotic if every character is in a quickswap team, or barely stays on the field at all
    It's fun to explore other mechanics and playstyles, as well as experiment with bringing something new to the table like Fontaine is doing at this current time. I'm very excited for the meta to change. Hyperbloom was definitely a gamechanger, but it's time for it to give new meta a chance

    mah-REH-show-sey... maréchaussée, is an informal and jokey way to refer to military police. So basically it's ambiguously a Cop Killer set or a Badass Cop (Wrizzley?) set, depending on your interpretation.
