It’s true. It’s so fucking funny and offensive. When Gilbert says “hey, cry over this stiff!” I laugh so hard and both Gilbert and Sam start cracking up.
He went on a little too long in this particular appearance. The dice impersonation was funny and it was killing but he just couldn’t recognize when to stop the bit or at least pause and pick his moments. Kinison and the stern crowd were trying to talk but Gilbert didn’t pick up on that. He just stayed “on” the entire show.
My top 3 all time (started listening in '86) in no order; Gilbert, Sam, and Beet. I haven't listened in at least 5 years. It started to get sour for me. I heard the show is not good anymore. Sad. The greatest show in the old days.
Sam Kinison talks about seeing a white light when you die- he died two years later and other people in the car said he seemed to be having a conversation with an invisible person right before he died. They talk about River Phoenix shaming Corey Feldman for drug use- dies of a drug overdose three years later. Wild.
This is the greatest moment in radio history. Nothing was more offensive. And nothing was more funny. The home buyers network commercial is just legendary.
I have this on cassette from original broadcast Ive listenned to it hundreds of times I was afraid it would melt..glad i found it here I can listen to it into my old age! what are those guys with those guys?😂😂
The amount of funny in this 1 hour 8 minutes is so far beyond anything on tv or radio now. Hell if howard stern show was still this funny I'd actually subscribe..
Its gone downhill, its not comedy anymore its casual talk, thank god someone sent out 1000s of shows online, I was lucky enough to snag a copy for myself, night and day difference
i always come back every once and a while to listen to this old Stern gem. Gilbert sitting in with Robin's news was never dull. I think at 17:13 you can hear Howard unraveling a balled up paper telling him to mention "Dice did 15 minutes at the wake". Jackie, Fred, Billy West and other writers would write a lot of Howard's material and back at this time this was how they passed off their ideas to him while on-air. In some E! channel vids you can actually catch Jackie tossing balls of paper at Howard
@@matthewmoran4158 yes, Jackie loved his own jokes the best, even the ones that were aimed at himself You can always tell if jackie wrote a joke by how hard he laughs
Arguably, as crude as it may have been, this is the best comedic timing of all time. RIP Gilly, you will forever be remembered as the best in the business. Such a loss.
Agreed. I think Kinisons "Move to where the food is", is one of the greatest jokes of all time. He had such a unique delivery when he was on stage. Definately one of a kind. As for Gilbert, he was awesome on The Howard Stern Show. He didnt need to be interviewed like most guests, and could literally just hang out for hours and kill it. Im not quite sure why he was never considered to take Jackies seat. To me, he seemed like a perfect fit. Idk if he was banned, but you didnt see him much on the show after the mid 90s. Sad.
@@chocolatetownforever7537 Gilbert was on in the Artie era too and hilarious. Then Howard stopped having him on as he became too safe and concerned about his brand. People forget that segments like this that I grew up listening to, are classic for sure and people complain that the show is more casual talk now and not comedy. You have to remember that Howard is a young man here and now he's old despite his black wig. The high energy needed to get bits like this going is just not an old man's game. You change and energy levels drop to the point where humor isn't as fun as it used to be. He's just not hungry anymore and he likes his life. Of course he'd make fun of himself if this Howard talked to Howard now, but I don't think it's worth complaining about. Does anyone really think PC Howard is really going to revert back to his old greatness as he approaches his 70s? Not gonna happen.
You're absolutely 100% right. Also, if Howard was still messing with strippers and doing all of the sexual stuff everyone would be calling him an old pervert. There's no making people happy.
George Carlin was prolific for close to five decades, and maintained the same vigor throughout. You're wrong: Howard simply chose Hollywood acceptance over his loyal audience/frequent guests that made him huge. He's Imus now, and it's fucking sad.
I’d just love for Howard himself to admit to what you’re saying. I feel like now Howard is acting like the past never happened. Or more like he’s ashamed of his past or something. I’d like him to sound more proud of his radio entertainment for all those years, instead of sorta acting as if that wasn’t how he really felt and he was doing for the audience only. We were all a community and I think most of us understand his evolution as he’s gotten older. I just wish he would embrace the whole career instead of saying, oh that wasn’t me... I’m still a fan regardless

Yeah Howard is a shell. He has too much money and doesn’t care. It’s hilarious to think that it was all an act to get where he was going. Maybe at one time it wasn’t but it worked and he conquered the world then ended it because once you have conquered it’s over.
Sam wasn't always as funny on the show as Gilbert was, but Sam was still very insightful and interesting I thought. But this is one of the best gems on YT I've found in recent years. Sam, Howard and Gilbert doing Dice ripping on Elton John performing at a AIDS kids funeral. I don't know how it can be more offensive, but hilarious.
gilbert died yesterday, 32 years after this appearance. i'm watching old clips of him leading up to today's stern show. howard will have plenty to say i'm sure since gilbert died 2 days after the 30th anniversary of sam's fatal car accident.
Robin impressed me here... she got a few legitimately funny lines off that cracked up professional comedians and also schooled Howard on playing counterpoint to Sam during their jam.
Gilbert really does not give a sht , more then anyone , he never gives a sht . He starts busting Sam's balls so fast " hey man ... A guy walks into a bar ... Great joke man! " fkn funny
