Nothing to do with the lens but I felt the music was a bit too loud, made it difficult to me to follow what you were saying at times. As about the lens I'm glad someone is reviewing the Samsung lens and camera system. This 45mm looks nice, as I am a telephoto addicted myself. Waiting for the Samsung NX500... Thanks for the review.
White Thunder BBQ it acts like a 70mm on a full frame camera, so you need a bit of distance for wider shots, but I love having a fast aperture. Great for indoor and low light shots.
Totally awesome vid. , luv it man... I have an NX1000, and it has a kit lens of 20-50mm f3.5:5.6, I made almost 50 episodes for a program not films by this lens, but I wanna upgrade for entering a Film Making and start shooting films with a decent cinematic looks and ofcourse with a completely, tightest budget as we all know... SO do you think, if I bought the 45mm f1.8, would it be awesome for starters like me in the world of film making, putting in consideration that the NX1000 that I have is not as sensitive as the NX1 or NX20 or so, so what do you recommend for me the best choice that I should go for....or should I head towards a brand new camera altogether !!!? Also I wondered whether I should buy an adaptor for my lenses or not, since canon lenses are almost everywhere, and nx lenses are only available online.. I would really need your support on this and I've been following all your videos lately, and they are just AWESOME...so thanks man and I wish you tha best...PEACE...
Hey Juan, I've always wondered what it is that makes a lens 'fast'. Like I understand that the wide aperture increases low light performance and depth of field, but what makes it fast?
No that's pretty much it. Looking at apertures wider than f/3 are usually considered "fast" as they let in significantly more light than consumer grade zoom lenses, which means significantly faster shutter speeds (or lower ISO).
Hey Juan, amazing video. I saw a couple days ago but i returned it to write this comment. I just got a NX3000 to start studying photography and video, and i was looking to know if was worth buy a samsung lens or the k-mount they sell at their online store to adapt other lenses, but your review showed me that the 16mm at least i need to have in my bag. Thanks for that. I'm waiting for the 2D/3D lens review \o. Cheers
Hi Juan, I´m planning to get a NX1. Will this lens, as well as the 16mm, work the same way as the 16-50mm Power Kit Lens? I mean, Will I get the face detection, auto (follow) focus, peaking, and all the features? In other words, I´m asking about compatibilty with the NX1 features. Thanks!
alan clavo The camera features wont change much, but you'll lose out on OIS going with primes. . If you shoot handheld, it's actually kinda nice having a little shake compensation built in. Also the focus is a little louder and stiffer on the 16 pancake imo
If you compare this 45mm and Canon 50 1.4 USM at f1.8 - is it big difference? I mean if is Samsung 45mm eg. sharper, has nicer bokeh and more contrast... I have experience with Canon from past, but now I have NX1 and wondering if it is better than 50 1.4 (I remember that 50 1.4 become good from f2.0 or f2.2 at least... but Samsung 45mm seems to be great at 1.8)... thank you for answer...
Philippe Orlando oh. I know. but dude, seriously, I cant answer that question if i dont know what you're trying to do. Which car should i buy? I wont tell you what my job is, or how far I need to drive, or how many people I need to travel with, but make a recommendation.
It's noticeably quieter than the 16mm. That pancake has a high pitched whine. I think it's quieter than the 18-55, but it's close. I've never used the 20-50. When I fade out the music I'm using the autofocus, and I couldn't detect it in the audio of the video.
If you need to use the built in mics, then I would just avoid using autofocus on the pancake primes. If you're using manual focus then it shouldn't matter. Also shooting handheld means I prefer the lenses with OIS.
Well the 16-50is is STUNNING if you can afford it - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HV6KMQ8/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00HV6KMQ8&linkCode=as2&tag=theramofsomau-20&linkId=NJK3TOILRU6J2AXM Running around after kids, a bit of zoom might be welcome, but the 50-200 starts out a bit long, so chasing kids I'd probably stick to the shorter zooms or the 60mm Macro.
45mm is such a weird focal length. Even weirder when you apply the crop factor which turns it into 69mm :/The heck's up with that? Couldn't they have gone with the more classic 50mm with a 75mm on a full frame equivalent? At the same f1.8 aperture the 75mm focal length compared to the 69mm would've given more background compression hence more bokeh, and the 50mm focal length is far more easier and cost effective to build than any other focal length, which is why nifty fifties are usually cheaper while not sacrificing much quality. Or so I hear. Oh well. Which lens in Samsung's line up gives a less weirder focal range than the 45mm but around that range?
+UncleSiam It's close. It's a slightly wider field of view, but it's nearly identical to a 50mm. Really nice glass for the price, great focusing motor. I'm a fan. Solid budget lens.
+JuanBagnell would you recommend this 45mm and the 20 or 30? in place of the 16-50 s lens for the nx1. Video work will be done as well. So the quiet lens is always nice.
This is such a great youtube channel! Way better than any other review sites or channels.
Really appreciate the kind words and all the sharing. You Rock! Glad you enjoy my vids! :-)
JuanBagnell No Problem!
Nothing to do with the lens but I felt the music was a bit too loud, made it difficult to me to follow what you were saying at times.

Thanks for the review.
After using it on the NX1, I think it'll be a monster combo with the NX500 too.
Nice review as always juan.. Cheers from Argentina
Glad you enjoyed it :-)
should I by the 50-200 mm or should I just got the 45 1.8?
this lens is coming today! can't wait to start shooting with it. should make some creamy thumbnails. have you recorded any video with it?
+White Thunder BBQ I have! I don't like using it hand held (no stabilization) but on sticks it's a cinema shallow look.
+JuanBagnell awesome! thanks. I hardly shoot free hand. everything on my channel I use some sort it stabilization.

+Mohamad Omar ALBosaty I think fast primes help a lot with grabbing that shallower depth of field.

Rhamsés Soares Congrats on the new camera! Are you sharing pics anywhere, like on the Instagrams?
JuanBagnell I created an account on the 500px. If you wanna check it out 500px.com/rhamses
Rhamsés Soares
Nice mixer shots.
Thanks man! Appreciate that. I'm trying right? hahaha.
Rhamsés Soares
Good stuff. Keep it up :-)
Thanks for the review! Would you know what the best lens would be for video with the Samsung nx3300? Thank you.
Please, I have the body NX 1000. Is it possible to use the 45mm 1.8 3D? Thanks

+Pavel Mašek It's not a huge difference no, but I do agree that Samsung seems to do a better job wide open.
Nice. Which wide angle would you use with the NX1? More precisely, while using it for video with a Nebula 4000?
Thanks
Philippe Orlando Well it really just depends on what you're shooting, how wide you need to shoot, and how much shake you can deal with.
How about to avoid worrying about focus
Philippe Orlando I'm not sure what you mean, like a GoPro is a wide angle lens and has a long depth of field?
I meant which wide angle lense? Something like the Rokinon 12 mm or else?
Philippe Orlando oh. I know. but dude, seriously, I cant answer that question if i dont know what you're trying to do.
Which car should i buy? I wont tell you what my job is, or how far I need to drive, or how many people I need to travel with, but make a recommendation.
How loud is the focusing sound compared to 18-55mm, 20-50mm and 16mm lenses?
It's noticeably quieter than the 16mm. That pancake has a high pitched whine. I think it's quieter than the 18-55, but it's close. I've never used the 20-50. When I fade out the music I'm using the autofocus, and I couldn't detect it in the audio of the video.

Running around after kids, a bit of zoom might be welcome, but the 50-200 starts out a bit long, so chasing kids I'd probably stick to the shorter zooms or the 60mm Macro.
How is the bokeh in 4k with the 4k crop? I have an NX500.
Oh I don't know. I've only used it on the NX1 sorry. It'll still be better than the kit lens at a similar focal length.
45mm is such a weird focal length. Even weirder when you apply the crop factor which turns it into 69mm :/The heck's up with that? Couldn't they have gone with the more classic 50mm with a 75mm on a full frame equivalent? So I just got a NX1 Body Only. Is this an equivalent to a Nikon 50mm 1.8 with adapter?
+UncleSiam It's close. It's a slightly wider field of view, but it's nearly identical to a 50mm. Really nice glass for the price, great focusing motor. I'm a fan. Solid budget lens.
JuanBagnell Thanks, I just ordered the 2d/3d version!
UncleSiam Nice! I have that one too. I keep meaning to review it, but I have NO idea how to properly edit and show 3D video LOL.
Thanks for for the video review. I was planning on buying that lens and your video sealed the deal.
+Paul Tamm Glad you enjoyed. I LOVES me a fast prime. I can ALWAYS use more help sharing these reviews :-)
how is the focus noise of the lens?
+tinop414 Pretty quiet. There's only a hint of an electronic whine when auto-focusing.
+JuanBagnell would you recommend this 45mm and the 20 or 30? in place of the 16-50 s lens for the nx1. Video work will be done as well. So the quiet lens is always nice.
tinop414
Oh yeah. For video I think the 16-50 makes more sense. The lens OIS should help with movement, and I think it's quieter than the 20 or 30.
It's a 3D lens?
