Yeah the lens market has dried up for the NX mount these days, a few year back I was looking to pick up the NX500 and there was lots of lenses still around, all dried up now 😢
Got this camera when I finished school around 2013 and took it inter-railing and on a few holidays. Its sat unused now for the best part of eight years probably and just got it out to play as ive more recently got into film photography. Got some great results with it and think im gonna be talking it everywhere with me as a point and shoot that I can quickly edit the photos in lightroom. Shame about the real lack of any good lenses. Just got the kit lens but would love to get a fast prime to see what the nx can reallly do. My have a go of adapting my Canon FD lenses and see what happens. Thanks for the video!
I have a NX1 and the pro 85MM F1.4 it is amazing for photos and have many other lens 16mm , 20mm , 30mm , 45mm , 50-200mm ,16-50mm f3,5 , 16-50mm F2-2.8 pro and also the video is so clear its really is smart camera to this day !!!
Great cinematic /documentary feel to the video. Very well put together !! As you said with the winter nights drawing in you have to let your creativity flow and go with it !
It really produces some gorgeous images. I think that pic of your pup laying on the floor is one of the best photos I've seen in quite some time. THis camera seems to have some of the colour science, the tonality and the microcontrast of the Leicas!
The image look is very competitive even in 2024 . My Sam gear are all keepers . Maybe the 20mp sensor was relaxed and less digital look . I must compare with the NX1 output .
Loved this video Lee. Great little stylish videography bits that show off your technical skills, lovely relaxed delivery and a fascinating topic. I never had a Samsung camera but might try to get one now!
Thanks Mark. The lenses seem hard to come by for these NX cameras now it seems. I had been looking at the NX500 a few year back, it's got some major upgrades compared to the previous models.
I started photography with the nx3000, then I got the f2 30mm pancake that is amazing. Then I became a dad and got the nx30. The AF is better to take photos at quick little ones running around the place. They are brilliant cameras and had a lot of features that no other cameras had for the price. I will stick with mine a little longer.. if something breaks I can replace cheaply off used market
Totally agree, the NX line where ahead of their time. I think if Samsung had held out for a few more years they could have been a major player in the mirrorless market. Yeah you can pick stuff up second hand but I've noticed less & less availability as the years roll on. Still, great cameras & lenses!
I happen to find myself in PC World some years back, mooching about and spotted the Samsung NX1000, when I compared it with a lot of the other consumer cameras on display the features just stood out, that and a very competitive price led to me buying one. I loved it and moved up to the NX300 when that came out and I was going to get the NX1 but some of reviews put me off and I invested in the NX500 instead. My thinking was that Samsung's next camera would be the killer larger form-factor camera to go for... but of course, they then decided to pack it in. I did get the NX1 though, I saw it on clearance sale at John Lewis a few months later for a ridiculously low price (sub £500 if I remember rightly) and could not resist. It is a superb camera, even now, for me some of the capabilities have held up well against other cameras until recent years. There is a hack I found online and deployed on the NX500 that provides extended functionality, increased bit rates for video and functions like focus stacking. When I decided to go full frame, I was going to go Sony but I ended up getting the K1 ii, not sure there are many people who have moved from mirrorless to DSLR 😊 I still have the Samsung NX1 and NX500 plus most of the limited number of lenses they brought out, (all but a couple of the more expensive pro lenses that still demand a premium price), and I still use them. As for the concept of a Pentax and Samsung collaboration, that would be awesome, Samsung sensor tech in a Pentax body would indeed be interesting. If someone could convince Samsung it would be fun to ruffle a few feathers...
We all must share a similar sort of mindset (Pentaxians) we seem to go for the underdog that has more value for money than the popular choices 😉 I had heard about that hack you talk of a few years back when I was researching to see if there was a AF compatible NX to PK mount. I never did find one though 😕
very interesting. I am also a Pentaxian, besides my Samsungs. I feel it was a misfortune that Pentax and Samsung didn't continue. I think the Pentax organization had some dysfunction which eventually lead to the sale of the company to Hyua. I wish Samsung had bought Pentax.
It would have been interesting to see what would have evolved had Samsung stayed in the camera market, we may have had weather sealed state of the art mirroless K-mount cameras?
Have a couple of NX cameras and a few lenses, love them, pocket size and discreet. They take good pictures in low light without the flash, also good for candid discreet photography.
They are a lovley compact size for sure! I wish I could find some of the nice primes they had for the NX cameras, there's just nothing on the second hand market these days!
I reckon if Pentax and Samsung had kept collaborating the NX mount would have worked I think pedigree and lack of legacy glass killed it for serious hobbyists and pros. Imagine adapted Pentax af glass on those nx bodies. Sony had the A-mount for their entry with all that Minolta glass, sure they discontinued that mount but they showed with the A99 what they could do and that was enough. The Samsung NX1 was and still is amazing…my gassy soul is often tempted by these Samsung cameras
Check out the NX 1 circuitry was way ahead of Cannon and Nikon . Very efficient design even at today's standards . Probably cost premium and massive R @ Dev costs if truth be told . Their lenses were also high quality . Check out the 85mm , its a chunk of excellence . Then 16/30/45 primes . Then the zooms also .
Samsung had interesting cameras. The last ones with 28mpix sensor are still quite competitve with parameters on market today. Especially when compared to recently released Pentax KF :D But the lack of IBIS was very bad design decision. They had quite long cooperation with Pentax before and it was strange that they created new system that had completely new lenses and incompatible mount. If only they released camera with IBIS and including Samsung NX/Kmount autofocusing adaptor, it could be much more successful.
Yes the NX1 & NX500 both got that 28mp sensor which was a nice upgrade. I agree I think that had Samsung kept the ball rolling things could have looked a bit different in today's camera market.
Nice vid as always. The Samsung cameras actually have a nice resale value. I have never found one at reasonable price compared to the other brands. Cheers!
They do seem to hold decent value. A few year back I almost picked up the NX500 with a couple of primes for a good price, I can't find them anywhere near that price now!
The NX mini can be found cheap a guy on YT called MarkusPix tied one to a helium balloon to see if it would float from memory it did with a few tied up

The NX cameras were quite a bit ahead of their time. I drooled over the NX1 when I got the chance to try it out - that BSI APS-C sensor and the oled back screen *and* EVF 😍. It might even give some of today's best a run for their money, but even if it didn't quite match up, how good does a camera really have to be? These NXs were over-engineered and over-specced, if anything, and coupled with their rarity, it's no wonder used prices can still be quite high.
Yeah those things were defiantly ahead of their time, Samsung could literally pick up where they left off by chucking in all the new AF/AI recognition tech into the NX1 & be back in the game! Or better yet they could buy Pentax from Ricoh and give us the camera's we've been asking for!
They had a great potential but Sony took almost the whole market of this kind of cameras with small bodies and big sensor. Even the lack of lenses didn't help. Samsung probably didn't saw a future of gain (they didn't sell much). Anyway Samsung had great colour and great pictures if you don't need ibis
Someone I know had an NX camera. He was absolutely in love with it and heartbroken to learn Samsung stopped making them after his one died. He got a Canon M5 instead, now that system is also dying. Poor guy can't catch a break!

I had an NX 3000 or 3300, can’t really remember which anymore. Got it for Christmas. Was a fun little camera, but I eventually sold it. Honestly, looking back, I really wish I held onto it.
I've still got my NX1000, the kit lens is a little hit & miss when it wants to work or not 🙈 so it wasn't worth selling to be honest. You never know they might have a cult resurgence at some point 😅. Jokes aside, really good cameras for the time they came to market in my opinion.
I have an odd take, but in my opinion they shot themselves in the foot with the Galaxy NX, and that’s ultimately what did them in. I remember at the time photographers were a bit irritated with the NX mount, but really liked the image quality and tech. They had hopes the lens mount would grow rapidly and were very happy with the NX 1. However, the Galaxy NX is what stole all the press attention and was widely panned as an overpriced worthless gimmick which people then unfairly attributed to the entire NX line. Once that was released, even the release of the NX 1 couldn’t overcome that stigma despite positive reviews.
Probably a lot of truth in this to be fair. When you look over the specs of the NX1 at the time of release its crazy good, and as you said even that couldn't turn the naysayers.
May well have been. I do know that the Samsung GX series shared much of the same parts as the Pentax cameras of that time, cameras like the K10D & K20D.

I've never tried with my NX1000 but I'd imagine you need a HDMI capture card in order to use it as a webcam. I had to do that for my wife's Canon M100.
Samsung had a number of important innovations. I wish its Android line of cameras caught on. Cameras are now multimedia creators, and I wish we could attach more accessories and apps to them through an operating system. They should be network devices, yet they remain curiously cut off from the internet.
It's easy to see the path that Samsung could have taken now. I've often thought that too, why with all the tech available these days do we not have cameras with Internet access & built in apps such as Lightroom or Luminar Neo? Presets in camera would be pretty insane!
Samsung understood that the masses won't use cameras anymore. That's why they left the camera market and focused on mobile imaging. Good for them and unfortunate for us. I have the good but ugly NX100 and the beautiful EX2F.
Recently purchased a nx300 and a 30mm f2 prime purely for having a small cam I can carry around in my jacket pockets. I think its an excellent cam for its age. I specifically like its manual focus (automatic liveview zoom-in when turning zoom plus red highlights on focus peaking...come on Pentax already!). I'm even considering getting a cheap K / NX adapter to use some small vintage pentax lenses with it...just for the fun of it. Samsung + Pentax? Yeah, that would've been interesting....
The profile of these cameras are perfect for that kind of use, just chuck it in your pocket and off you go. The NX300 looks really nice, the NX500 with the updated sensor looks even better!
@@LeeIveson its IQ is better than I've expected. And this goes for the lens I got as well (it doesnt have the character of some of my Pentax limiteds...but ok) The nx500 is considered to be an even better camera but at 3x its cost. For anyone who can afford it I'm sure it will be an excellent purchase!

It would have been nice to see where things went if Samsung had just kept going a few more years 🤔
Is this good for webcam?
I've never tried it myself, I'd imagine yes it would be.
Samsung NX1000 was my first camera. Good memories..
Mine too, excluding compact cameras 📷
How to change the lens...helppp
Take old lens off put new lens on 😅
Hi i have ofert to buy it for 100bucks is it any good today or should i buy something like canon 500 ir 600d?
If it's in good working order $100 is a good deal I'd say. Just note that lenses are hard to come by for the Samsung NX line of cameras these days!
nx1 and nx500 were the best
@jurassicaquatics8931 Yep those BSI sensors were great 👍
I owned three ;) for lolz.
Why own one when you can own three 🤣 love it! 📷📷📷
And this goes for the lens I got as well (it doesnt have the character of some of my Pentax limiteds...but ok)
The nx500 is considered to be an even better camera but at 3x its cost. For anyone who can afford it I'm sure it will be an excellent purchase!
