- Every now & again I come across an old camera that I totally forgot existed in the first place! I'm willing to bet that most of you also forgot about the Samsung line of cameras in question (and no it's not the Samsung NX)

I always thought that they were nicely made compared to the similar priced competitors. Great video Lee.
I still use my Pentax k10d, even though I have a few of their more recent models. Even though it's only 10mp, I still like the 8x10 portraits it produces.
The sensor produces amazing results. It has a great color balance profile with the right amount of noise.
How would you rate AF with lenses like FA50/1.4 or FA35/2 or even 16-50/2.8?
My K10D struggles..

Welcome to the CCD sensor world even my 6 Megapixel Pentax cameras make the colors more vivid with modern editing programs and like you said the greens seame to really stand out
The CCD sensor didn't disappoint! I can see myself using the GX10 in the same way I do my K5, when I want to just enjoy photography.
I never owned the GX but we brought brand new 11 years ago the NX300. 20 megapixels Samsung APSC that still takes amazing images. It's a shame that Samsung stopped making camera's
It is a shame, they could have been big players I reckon
Pretty interesting. I've dabbled with getting a K10D for a long time, just to try out the whole CCD thing. Thanks for sharing your curiosity, Lee!
🍻
It really shines (no pun intended) when there's plenty of available light, the colours are the really vidid but not over saturated if that's possible 😆. One thing I forgot to mention which I might have to address in a short video is that the light meter is not that reliable at least from my experience, I had to use exposure comp on both the plus & minus side and even then it was all over the place, it might just be my copy of the GX10?
@@LeeIveson You know what?
Might not be the camera at all. I bought an older Tokina lens for my K-1ii, and weirdly, with that lens, I get very over-exposed shots.
Maybe some lens/body communication or calibration isn't right. This is something I've noticed buying older bodies. Things get out of whack after a while.
Prices are crazy for Samsung cameras, looking at NX500, NX1.
Yeah for some reason they have shot up in price
Well done video Lee.
Thanks mate 👍
All those "Samsung" K mount lenses were just OEM Pentax/Tokina lenses. That image of 12-24 is incorrect, that thing on picture is different lens 12-24/4-5.6 for NEX mirrorless. "Samsung" K mount 12-24/4 looks exactly like Pentax DA12-24/4 just with different rubber and labels.
K10D/GX10 have only have AF fine adjustment in service menu. And AF in general is very poor and inconsistent even on static objects. I bought one K10D about 1/2 year ago just because it was offered with two lenses and the price was laughable ($60 equivallent for K10D + Sig 17-70/2.8-4.5 + Tamron 80-210). It sits in collection cabinet now. Taking pics requires service menu and different adjustment for every different lens I attach. I did about 2500 shots with it, but no. There is no magic reason for more torture :)
K20D is much better camera. It has Samsung CMOS which is not overhyped like that K10D's 10mpix CCD, but does better pics in fact. That old K10D is only usable in 100-400 ISO range, ISO 800 if there is no other way. And ISO 1600 looks simply horrible. RAW only of course, because JPG process in that camera is purely disgusting and later introduced K200D and K-m improved that a lot.
I almost bought K10D new in late 2007. Placed an order. It was quite expensive camera at that time. Fortunately they were not able to get the ordered Sig17-70 lens for combo kit (cca $1800 equiv!) so I've cancelled that order in 12/2007. And then in 02/2008 K20D was introduced which was my first Pentax DSLR. I was happy then because I got one of first that arrived to country and price was almost same like that K10D just few months before. AF fine adjustment for 20 lenses, faster and more accurate AF, LIVE VIEW!!! and sensor that was usable up to ISO 1600 for normal pics and up to ISO 2500-3200 if needed.
And sure, in 2006 K10D was formidable DSLR, but technology advanced significantly every month during those times. Not like today when 6-7y old cameras can easily compete with recently introduced ones.
Btw K10D can shoot PEF and DNG. GX10 only knows DNG. K10D received more FW updates over time.
Looks like you found a hidden gem with that Samsung
It's definitely feels that way! It's a shame about the Tamron 70-300 I think it needs calibrating. All the other lenses work fine on the camera. Overall its a joy to shoot with!
I had a Tamron 70-300mm with my Pentax combination , it was definitely poor compared to the Pentax 55-300mm I use now
Topic but I think Pentax could have a nice comeback if they made film camera with the K-Mount and a mirrorless with K-Mount. They could make a Pentax with the flange distance closer and then to use K-Mount lens use a adapter. But if they did this I think just releasing the trinity lens and maybe just three primes and stop it there.
People want new film SLR cameras and Pentax can do it. It be nice to have a good mirrorless system that is integrated into the K-Mount echo system. As of right now no one is in the position to do it. Canon and Nikon could do it but they already invested a lot into their mirrorless systems it would not workout that good for them.
If the Pentax 17 does good numbers I think we will most likely see more film oriented cameras, maybe with the inclusion of K-mount?
@@LeeIveson I hope it does do well. I just kind of wish they did a full 35mm frame next time.
Long story short sensor itself does not produce anything different then CMOS one, beside of the lot of noise which is inherit to the CCD design.
Could just be me wanting to see rich tones & colours then 🤣
@@LeeIveson Might be , the rest is just looking to firmware algorithm
Tolles Video Lee.
