    I've said it before and I'll say it again. Jermaine played Dook so well. The kid had heart, so much heart. He'll always be one of my favorite characters from the season.

    • @BrooklynsFinest_
      @BrooklynsFinest_ 7 месяцев назад +12

      The Character Kevin on BMF reminded me of Dookie. It was really sad to see what he went through because he was an innocent civilian… same with Dookie and the other kids. I grew up in the 80’s in NYC, we all had a “dookie” and ”Kevin” in public school and those young men never had a chance. Since the wire, media have been showing young men in this light without and resolve on how we can help them be the kings that they are. We all see the emasculation of the black man but it is up to us to make sure these young men grown up to live in their purpose, avoid sucka shit and have knowledge of self.

    The scene where Bunk visits Randy in the group home is my fave ... just because when he was a kid, Randy wasn't street smart enough to know the games cops play ... but in the group home, he kept his mouth shut and knew how they operate, since Carv had told him he would look out for him, and he ended up getting beat up and landing in a group home

    • @emmanueloppong9778
      @emmanueloppong9778 4 месяца назад +5

      Craziest part about that whole part is that it was showing Randy turn into Bodie. Every kid had a parallel character by the end of the show. Dukie became bubbles, Namond becomes Clay Davis (They even had Clay Davis and Namond say the exact same line at different times). The writing on this show was something else.

    I've watched The Wire countless times, like most people here watching this. This was SO delightful in so many ways. Seeing these men grown up, so transparent, so honest and organically speaking, continuing to bond, and continuing to create. I love the support of each other and I love them talking about The Wire and what it's meant to them. I'm so glad that it was a good experience for them and they can speak so fondly of that time. Thanks you for this Maestro, Julito, Jermaine!

      Except the show wasn't solely about black people in inner cities. And not all black people in inner cities have this story.
      Also each season focused on a different group of people. Most of Season 2 was the white folks at the dock. Season 5 was about the reporters. One of the main characters was an alcoholic police officer.

    So, I first started the wire live on season four. You four were my introduction to the whole series. I’ve rewatched the show multiple times since then and I always have the same feeling when I start season four: this is the new generation of everybody that is a main character on the show. I could sit here and go on and on about it but, I just want to say that I’m proud of y’all from where you started to where you are now. It’s amazing to see these photos and videos from back then and hear these stories. Dookie was an intricate character on the show and it was truly heartbreaking to see him fall into the loop rather than get out of the hood and become something better. Randy and Namond’s stories I think kinda played out the way most thought and Michael, I knew was going to be the next hitman. I wish they had developed another season with more on y’all’s characters but I’m glad they didn’t water it down with more seasons. I hope the next time y’all get to record a “reunion” that Tristan gets to pull up. I met him randomly while he was filming “swagger” and I was ridiculously hype. Peace and blessings and continued success to you guys

For many of us, The Wire was more like a documentary, than a tv series. We were gripped, shocked, sobered, heartbroken, reminded, angered, betrayed by personal emotion, changed, all of it, and we couldn't unsee it! Thank you all for your commitment and authenticity. Reflecting on this podcast and reminiscing about "The Wire's" portrayal of children navigating the gritty streets of Baltimore takes me back to my own upbringing. Growing up in Harm City, I forged strong bonds with friends and associates who eventually went their separate ways. Yet, those of us who remain always find it easy to reconnect, speak on the ones we've lost, meanwhile slipping back into our carefree ways and boyish endeavors whenever we're together.
    Recently, I returned to town unannounced and unexpectedly encountered a childhood friend in traffic. Despite the late hour, we found ourselves pulled over immersed in conversation, standing on the street corner, observing the pulse of West Baltimore at 1 am. It's not the safest place to linger, but he's my buddy, and time is ticking away; we're not getting any younger. Living out of state means I rarely see them, so it's a risk worth taking for the chance to catch up and reminisce about old times!

    I got a chance to work with David Simon when I got out of the Air Force. I remember telling him that Boys of summer was my favorite season because that was the most relatable to my experiences growing up in New Orleans. I got hurt in Iraq in late 05. I went through 2 years of therapy at Walter Reed in DC and had 16 surgeries a Johns Hopkins but I'll never forget September of 06 when that season aired. It got me through a lot.

Watching this felt like being a fly on the wall amongst friends just reminiscing about a point(s) in their lives freely. Not putting on a show for who may/may not be watching, being themselves. Us viewers got watch a friendship evolve through the characters in that season. To now seeing many years later into their adulthood, that that friendship is still there.

    It's hard to pick a favourite season of The Wire, but Season 4 may well be it. I've watched and re-watched it at least 5 times, and you guys gave it so much heart. It's crazy that I can watch something where you were all just kids, and at no point do I stop and think, "this is just acting" -- it feels completely real. The casting was perfect, and all of the characters could've had successful lives had it not been for their circumstances.
    Season 4 being focused on the kids also reminds me of Ella Thompson (RIP) from The Corner and all of the people out there who make the sacrifices for their community that keep the lights on. David Simon and Ed Burns had done so much legwork by the time they wrote The Wire that they could join up so many parts of life seamlessly. It still amuses me that they smuggled The Wire into HBO as a police procedural.
    Thanks for being part of making the greatest season of the greatest television show.
