Really nice video on the new trailer and mods. About a year ago you did a Moonshade review on the old Hiker Trailer. Any need for an awning on the driver's side of the new trailer for the shower?
We didn't film this but will be using the moon shade for the passenger side. I will see what we can do for a moon shade update video. Thanks for watching.
Congrats on the upgrades. Having a shell is a huge plus. I have an off road pop up camper that I tow with my 16 Crewmax Tundra with shell. Been drooling over the Hiker for a while now. The plan is to eventually downsize to a Hiker when it's just the wife and I. Currently moving cross country to a state close to you so perhaps in the future we might run into each other at a campground. Keep up the great videos, I really enjoy them.
Hey Matt I like my Bluetti Solar folding 200w panels, because their easy to store and lighter than my Renogy100W solar suitecase!! Like you said of chasing the sun, i bought a set of 30' universal cabkes from Windy Nation and run them in series to my Bluetti AC200P. Now because of my work schedule I've not had them out much. But the last time i was out it was rainy and over cast and was pulling 76% as they laid atop my Rav4.. hey Matt and Wendy yes I have a screen door on mine and I like it and I did use those lights that you mentioned and I did have them installed with my neighbor he put them in my back shelves so yes we're pretty much on the same page that front tire in the front and all that I just didn't have the AC unit but your your setup looks very good congratulations and your new TV. safe travels😎👍🐢🌽🌲🇺🇸🌎
Great video... a few questions... Do you know how much the trailer weighs and its tongue weight? Did you consider the fridge box, and why did you choose the toolbox?
Hi Matt. I have a jackery solar saga 100w so I repurposed that SAE zamp plug. I hooked up those SAE leads to the solar charge controller and now I can charge from the roof (200w Renogy panels) and from the jackery panel off side with long lead if we sit in the shade.
Thank you for all of your great Videos. They are always very helpful and informative. I am considering getting a Hiker. Can you tell me why you got a Mid Range XL as opposed to the Mid Range Deluxe as you mentioned that you don't do a significant amount of off roading?
We wanted to try something different. Now that we have it we would recommend getting the XL if you plan on doing off roading that would require more clearance or you are taller and want the awning higher so you don't have to "duck under" the awning.
Matt you channel has been extremely useful. We are looking hard at ordering one soon. when you get a chance, could you tell me what the height dimension is of the very bottom of the galley? Hiker told me 15" but that doesn't seem right.
I with ya on the amber lights. Too many times I’ve been out camping in a dark sky location and have a telescope setup. Then someone rolls up nearby and blast super bright harsh white lights ruining my experience. Makes me wonder why folks want to get in nature if they blast away the night sky. Discrete white lighting works too. No need for the Home Depot parking lot lights I see out there in the wild.
I wonder if you could use those front vents for a portable AC unit like EccoFlow has. It looks like you could work something up to hook the cool air output into the trailer and leave the unit outside for noise and exhaust.
Yes, its possible with the new AC units coming to market that are battery-operated. Hiker continues to make the front vents for general ventilation and for future AC units.
Hey Matt, as always great video. Do you by any chance have the ht measurement from the top of the AC to the ground? We are upgrading from the midrange deluxe to the 5x10XL All Weather. Just checking to see if it will fit in my garage. Thanks!

Great video. What do you do for surge protection? I was thinking about replacing the power strip provided by Hiker with one that included a surge protector. I wanted to make sure my Bluetti would not have a problem at a campground when I’m on shore power to recharge it. The other option is a surge protector outside but then it probably needs to be waterproof.
I currently have a tenttrax trailer I tow with my Jeep TJ. I recently looked really hard at the hiker line up as I like the idea of being able to just pull up and your pretty much done. After seeing these in action I decided against them. They aren't really able to actually go offroad. Now hear me out everyone's definition is different. Every single person I have met who owns one thinks the go offroad but honestly any trailer can go down forest road. In the end just bought another trailer but it was full size
Yeah. You want the whole 9 yards, and probably want the trailer to have the same track width as your Jeep. I think MOST people actually want something in the middle. Hey guys rewatching your video. My trailer should be completed by the end of this month. Since Hiker doesn't locate the crossbars for my Yakama Topper I need to add the bars like you did for your shower. Im going to mount my Yakama tracks to the added bars and then add my Yakama racks so I can carry my Yakama products. I would like to know where you got the black cross bars? Thanks
Considering a fully loaded truck and trailer, how's the sag? Looked like you had a little (2 inches approx.). Acceptable? Also, I'd assume the trailer about 2K loaded. Ever any issue with trailer sway? Great vid! Thanks!
Great looking trailer! We are considering upgrading to a Hiker but are concerned about the south Texas heat and humidity causing issues with the plywood construction. Have y'all had any issues with water getting in or mold? Great channel and thanks for the info!
Seems like with this design you get more room inside the camper. Head room. And I love the galley in the back. Ima keep this camper on my list come shopping time. (Looks like id have to order it.)
Question about the shower. I don't like having the shower right next to the camper because the water runs all over the area we walk. Do you trench to divert the water away?
My wife is considering this model and I'm a big guy 6'5" I was hoping you could share a couple of measurements with me. I was wondering what is the height from the ground to the bottom of the door and I was also curious as to height from ground to lowest spot on awning (hard spot, like a mounting arm) I am curious if I will be able to walk under the awning without hitting my head.
@@MWDAdventures Thanks for the info! certainly would like to see a couple more inches on the awning height to make it so I'm not ducking or hitting my head all the time will have to look at those options.

We ordered it from the factory with the vents, but I know of some owners that have put them in themselves later on. Reach out to us at mwdadventures@gmail.com if you would like a pair of the vent covers.
Why does Hiker not connect the line that connects to the car battery via the 7pin? Can you not take advantage of the tow charging then once you get to camp 'switch' over to solar? It may not be that easy, as I am in the learning phase of these rigs.
There had been an issue when they started making these trailers with making that connection and they have stopped doing it ever since. It is something you could do on your own when you get the trailer home.

Love the look of the Hiker traler love the amber lighting, 1 question, the black clips on the outside of the camper to hold the lighting cord where do you get them from?
Wendy, the gray baskets in the gally top shelf are those the medium size on Amazon? Additionally the felt trays in the upper cubby area in the cabin I noticed the gray and blue also all gray trays. Do these fit front to back in the cubby nicely, they are 10.5 inches deep. Thanks trailer is in storage and its 10pm by me, I was going to place an order but Ill wait for your answer.....thanks and Merry Christmas to you and all the viewers.
I’m a first time subscriber and hiker trailer interest (not owner yet). I’ve a 2023 MDX Acura. How’s the drive? Any driving advice or modification? Never pull a trailer before.
That is the beauty of these trailers - they are light enough to be pulled by almost any vehicle. Practice backing up before you get to a campsite. The pulling is easy the backing up is tricker. Check out this video of Wendy learning to back up our trailer: ruclips.net/video/jT59xbwdqSQ/видео.html
I recently found your channel watching another video about the Hiker Trailers. First let me say y'all are putting out some great information with your videos. While watching this video I thought of a couple ideas that I would have tried and am not sure if you tried them first. The first idea is for your vents on the front of the camper. I can tell you used camper sewer parts. Did you consider using a residential exhaust/dryer vent at all? Sandwiching some screen material between the unit and camper would provide the same result, provide a lower profile on the camper wall allowing for better storage, and less parts to install. Another idea I had, since your son 3D printed a few parts for the camper, was colored covers for the lights. I saw you added that film to the light to make it amber, however printing a slide on cover with that film secured inside it would allow you the ability to change the color more easily. This camper seems to provide a great deal a versatility. I am seriously considering getting one for myself now. Thanks!
Thanks for your comment. We have not tried any other option for the vents on the front. We have found this to work well for us. We wanted something that angled down so if you have a driving rain it doesn't come through the vent. We did discuss having our son 3D print something to put over the lights but in the end decided we wanted something permanent - one and done :-) we haven't felt the need for any different colors. The film has worked well for us. We love the fact these trailers are light and very customizable (when you order it and then when you get home to make it your own.)
Can you share the link to the Hiker Forum? I own a Offroad Extreme and would love to be a part of the forum. Also do you have a link for the mitten clips/hooks?
The forums Matt was talking about is the Hiker Owners FB page - if you aren't apart of it. Request to join. As for the mitten clips, here is the link. I cut out the part you have to push in as I just needed the hook: amzn.to/3OVGiCq
Nicely done on the new trailer builds. The A/C vent option is great. Does the vent on the trailer have a bayonne lock setup so you can attach the clear 90? If so is your son interested on making a few more screen caps? That was a slick idea. Thanks for your videos.
Yes the 90 twists into place. It connects like Rv sewer line connections. Reach out to us at mwdadventures@gmail.com for more information on the AC vent covers.
Additionally where the mattress is going to hit the screen door frame did you only trim the foam where the door frames are or the whole length of the mattress?
We use the WaterPort - we set it on our bummer and it works well. If we want warm water, we can warm it up on our stove first and pour it into our WaterPort. amzn.to/3NnZHxL

Yes, the felt trays fit perfectly in that space! The gray baskets are Medium - hope this helps :-). Merry Christmas to you too!
Do these have air conditioners?
Ah, I see you answered this in the video. I wonder if there are any good batteries that can run these.
You would need a really big battery to keep the air unit running for more than a couple hours.

You guys must be rich!
Great content. Watching from Edmonton, AB. Curious if you would share which clips you use to hold the Hard Korr light wiring?
Here is a link to the clips we used. They have a sticky backing to attach to any surface. amzn.to/3PrWpYa
Awesome job on this build. I love it. Where ya going in Colorado, I am just north of Denver. Let us know when and where if ya don’t mind.
We will be at the expo.
Hey Matt,
Does your son sell those 3D printed screen covers? I’d be interested in buying 2.
Thanks
Joel

I’m recovering from brain surgery and enjoying the videos.
Glad to hear we can be a good distraction for you :-)
Unless your kid can print that fitting in nylon the current ones will melt.
Skipped the PLA for that reason. thanks for watching.
@@MWDAdventures thanks I will drop a email
What gauge is the red aluminum? Looks great
not sure on the aluminum...
Additionally where the mattress is going to hit the screen door frame did you only trim the foam where the door frames are or the whole length of the mattress?
We trimmed just the one section that butts up to the doors.

When do you go to work? Or are you retired?
We have both been at our jobs for a long time, so we have decent vacation time built up....we are not retired yet...
Awesome video. Curious what your guys go to solution is for shower/getting clean?
We use the WaterPort - we set it on our bummer and it works well. If we want warm water, we can warm it up on our stove first and pour it into our WaterPort. amzn.to/3NnZHxL
@@MWDAdventures thanks for the reply! Awesome.
Any roof leaks?
No leaks
Do you have a link to the Hiker Forums?
You have to be a Hiker owner to be a part of the forums. Which means you have a trailer on order or the current owner of a Hiker Trailer.
@@MWDAdventures I have a trailer. Do they send out an invite link or something that I missed?
