11:13 "Don't get attached to something just coz you spent a lot of time on it". Thanks. Helped me got over my ex.
Bruh thanks i laughed my ass off i needed that today
@@maxpatchell1541 so his suffering made you happy? LOL
@@breadhead3812 well it isn't suffering since he said he got over it
@@breadhead3812 Yeah I don't think that was intended to be a joke...
Look at us now brother! We are working on our passion!
Thomas: creates a glowing character
Also Thomas: gives it a shadow
Pedro Gomes bahahaha exactly
I dont care about how programmers would do that xDDDD
I mean, the character is not translucid. So...
Just adding a faint light on the ground close to its feet would make it accurate and good looking
perhaps the sun hitting the character is causing a glow from behind...in which case the shadow is absolutely necessary....
@@thomasbrush question, what about a whole map? How big should the canvas be?
"It's not bcz am genius,it's bcz i practiced rly rly hard " the one motivating line i needed to hear all my life , ty sir

As a professional graphics designer. I love how you've done an unedited tutorial. Leaving backtracks like the clouds and learning as you go. Very true to what it's like to work in this branch. You can't make perfect art, if you don't try to make perfect art - the real goal is thr final product, don't matter how you got there.
looks like an early morning and the sun's just coming up absolutely beautiful
For anyone interested: Alt+Click is the equivalent of "Create Clipping Mask" if you right-click on the layer it will then contain all changes to the layer below (ie mask to that).
This was really inspiring! You made the process look so simple. Plus the art you made looks amazing. 👍
"I don't know how the developers would program this, but I will put it in there anyway"
Been waiting for this video for a long time! It’s really informative and I watched it completely! Can you do one more in Character design! Would love to see it! 👌✨
Yes, we really need a tutorial on character design!
Really amazing I’m glad I got to see your process
I’ve seen hundreds of RUclips videos at least and your videos are literally the only ones I’ve ever found and seen that actually goes into depth on how to really make 2d games thank you for everything
Oh my God. This is my first time watching one of your videos and I'm so amazed! This looks like something that would take forever to make, it's so good! I'm super excited to try implementing everything you taught here. Thank you!
I just started a digital art class and we’re working on 2d art in illustrator! It’s super confusing, so I really appreciate your tutorials.
When I was watching you stream the creation of zero deaths I knew I wanted to learn how to make this kind of art
I saw some great ideas. It's always great seeing others and how they work on their projects. Throughout the whole video I was like "yea, thats nice. yea i can do the depth like that too. yea this is a clever way to build the mood of the map". Please do more videos on how you work on your projects, you are an inspiration!
Tbh the games youve made you plug every video personally arent my style but you as a dev have easily become one of my favorites to watch. The energy and overall feeling of genuine wanting to help others do something they love along with the sense of humor is great to see
This kind of content is what I first signed for, back when you were streaming Once Upon a Coma. I love the enthusiasm on explaining things just like you do in your livestreams. Thanks for the outstanding and unique content!
Finally! I’ve been waiting for a video like this! I am gonna watch this several more times.. I got a degree in Visual Communication, but even now still have issues with translating this stuff into 2d game art illustrations. Thanks for sharing Thomas! I especially loved hearing that this is how you define your rules for the rest of the game. It’ll be a good jumping off point.
Your art videos are great, keep doing art videos pls.
your game art tutorial is best on youtube. i think that's your strongest part
Great Video! You are really inspiring for me... Please one about how you desing your charecters!
Lazaro Ventancor I second this!
This is really useful, yes But I'd rather know how to get these layers into Unity first... You know, without them looking all wrong and warped.
@@hiiambarney4489 there's a video he talks about that. You should look his art videos
@@xMaximkO I'm dumb. You are right about that. A way to introduce this however without giving viewers the feeling there's something missing BUT without much extra hassle would be to mention said video and maybe even put an annotation up!
yeahhhhh am with u
Thanks for the great tutorial. I've seen a couple of tutorials that do a similar concept, but what makes this tutorial stand out is that you take the time to explain the reasons behind your artistic choices as well as sharing some great tips(Like squinting your eyes for the shadows and highlights or zoom out to see if you are on the right track). Cheers.
Such an awesome video really inspiring stuff! Literally watching you're content has become part of my morning routine.
Oh man, I want more of these Game Art tutorials. Such informative.
This is brilliant.. Really love how you use your wisdom and experience to create a workflow that is easy to understand and adopt! and its not really art style specific, i can see this working for realistic scenes as well. Love It! please make more :')
This video is absolutely perfect. I’m in the middle of making my own indie game, and I’m dedicating an entire year to it as part of one of my classes at school. I was just getting started with the art, and this video helped me a ton!

This is exactly the kind of video I need right now on my game-dev journey. I'm a writer and I have some developing skills but actual art assets aren't my forte. Please, if you have time, make more videos like this! Thanks so much Thomas, cheers!
Omg. Dude. That is amazing. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world. Plus you have a cool, confident attitude which genuinely puts our technical anxieties at ease.
