  • Mercedes is pulling out all the stops to secure Max Verstappen away from Red Bull, with a deal worth 150 million euros per year, plus the services of Helmut Marko, and acquiring more engineering talent from Red Bull to convince Verstappen away amid Newey's departure from Christian Horner's team. Bombshell meetings are expected after the Miami GP.

    For all they are willing to give Max, it proves even more that Hamilton was 100% correct to leave Mercedes. They wouldn’t even give Hamilton an ambassador role but the offer max that and 3 times the salary. Hamilton owes absolutely no loyalty to Mercedes and Toto

    • @Lovit-vk5fg
      @Lovit-vk5fg Месяц назад +8

      There is no loyalty. Max has a longer future in f1 so a better investment

      It is sad, but indeed Max has more future value. He will be a 4th time WDC and still young. Furthermore, Max is better than Hamilton, especially right now. Toto just got a new apprentice, one far younger and more powerful 😂

      I don't mean to rile up any Lewis Hamilton fans (imma changed man), but in terms of performance, there's a significant gap to close. Hamilton just doesn't have the level of determination that Verstappen would have for that task. How hamilton is behaving now, like smiling after horrible performances like "hahaha we really screwed that one up lol" you will never even see from verstappen. His whole demeanor would be much more in line with the struggling mechanics and engineers in the team/factory. To illustrate, Gianpiero Lambiaso said about Verstappen that 'max taught him how to win' .. its a great compliment but it also illustrates how verstappen is nestled in a team and how instrumental he is to the proces of 'getting there'.... Lewis just isn't that guy that gets you there. Not now, but he likely never was.
      that salary offer is still preposterous though. But to get the team back to winning I still rather give it to max than to lewis.

      @clemhfandango. Месяц назад +5

      Mercedes but especially Toto, are just acting desperate at this point to save the future of the team and trying to go back to their glorious days pre '21. They're literately throwing lots of money at "solutions" like trying to hire Verstappen hoping that will solve the issues. In reality, in a few years Mercedes has lost their "dream team" of engineers and managers and now a key player is leaving them too (Hamilton). Desperate times call for desperate measures.

      well of course, cause its a car after all and we are biped mammals. a bicycle plays a much more important role than the person riding the bike too.
      It's about improvements over time to the car and the personnel you can attract to the team knowing you have a driver that is much more performance driven than Hamilton is and has been over the last years. For example, Hamilton's performance profile is very inconsistent, spikey. Often big off sets with his teammate and what's worse he's cool with that. Thats annoying but also very inconvenient for the engineers to benchmark the car. As you can imagine if your top driver isn't consistently showing close to the true potential of the car then what is the result of an update, what is the result of a setup change.
      Probably thats where the sim correlation problem comes from as well cause essentially its saying that Hamilton cant consistently replicate the results from the sim.

      I don’t like Verstappen, he’s petulant, petty, unsportsmanlike in the heat of battle, but he is naturally bloody quick… but he flaps when pressured, I’d like to see how he holds up under an attack by say, Alonso or Hamilton, when he’s forced to lean on the car and push without let up with them badgering in the DRS zone.

    This is the first time I watched the video in its entirety. So many teams need to take advice from Merc, like how they treat BOTH their star, second, and not quick-enough drivers and so much more. But merc, you got lost in the 0s in your bank account. Lewis wasn't just fast enough. Just like how Newey is an expert on engineering the car, Lewis is brilliant at feel and understanding what it needs. He helped you weed out who on the engineering team was capable of making a championship-winning rocket and who needed to go.
    To do this to him is nothing but the freshest bullshit.

      What this means is a team like RBR only need to sort out engine whereas teams like Mercedes Scientific and Research, need to keep on researching about grounds effect and they need to come up with a dominant engine (effectively they might need to start from scratch again).

    150 million is ridiculous. Max is undoubtedly a good driver. He’s beaten most of his team mates at one point or another and over the last few years has been unstoppable. But, again, he has the fastest car. When all you have to do is beat your team mate, and Max hasn’t had any issue doing that over the last 3 years, it isn’t much of a challenge. That doesn’t mean he can turn a tractor into a race winning machine. If Merc can give him the car then I have no doubt he’ll walk over Russell. If we can get to a point where Ferrari, Merc and Red Bull have potential race winning machines that is a very exciting prospect.

    I read of Rory Bern still guiding Ferrari. I am sure he qualifies as a fossil in your books. He seems to be fitting in well in Italy. Newey's new boat could be for sailing in Venice. Also Hamilton doesnt move to a new team unless there is a secrete weapon that gives him a guarantee. Lauda and Brawn did show him an engine. Otherwise the silver cars of Schumacher and Rosberg struggle to get on the podium could not have convinced Lewis to leave Mclaren. Maybe what Elkan and Vasseur showed Lewis was Newey's MOU to join in 2025. There had to be something convincing for Lewis, and I dont think it was Ferrari's 2022 and 2023 form. My two cents ...

    I know this is not on point but I’m still interested to crowd source some opinions especially with the pending scoring changes.
    Thinking more about how to make the championship run more exciting to watch, I find it interesting that in F1 you can declare a champion before the season ends. Those remaining events are still massive productions and people pay a lot of money to go see the race even though all the main titles have been decided.
    In an effort to make every race count, why not implement a championship/finals race similar to how other sports work up to a major deciding event/match? Hear me out and then tell me why this is terrible:
    1. The final race of the year is the championship round to determine the driver championship.
    2. Only the top 10 performing drivers qualify for the championship round. This way all the races and points leading up to the championship round have more meaning but not everyone qualifies making this an exclusive championship round sort.
    3. The starting grid for the final race is decided based on points ranking leading up to the championship race so everyone is still fighting for something right up to the race.
    4. The location of the championship race changes each year kind of like the Superbowl.
    5. No team orders during the championship race. It's everyone for themselves.
    I'm sure this idea is not a bulletproof plan (probably far from it), but I'm trying to brainstorm ways where a driver can dominate like Verstappen has and get rewarded for it but still making all the races still count for something, leading up to a maga final event.

Doesn't have Sainz money and Oli Bearman is def headed there. Plus Liam Lawson needs a drive Redbull could end up retaining checo even though I think he's already out the door their just letting him think if he performs decent enough that he will get re-signed but I feel he's out and I think if it was up to Carlos he wants that Redbull seat hence the waiting game instead of just giving Merc. the yes let's sign on the line. Weird to think that just 3-4yrs ago Merc was the most sought after seat and everyone would of gave everything to be in a Merc now it's different and Redbull has the clout even though i think 25' is the last year we see dominance by them.

    The FIA would love to have Newey .... unfortunately they only have beer money, cannot afford champagne.

    Merc could give Marko a job - doesn't mean they have to actually use him.

    If Newey has ordered a boat costing £27m then money isn't going to be the main motivation.
    Just like max a winning driver wants a winning car which Merc can't build, as for Marko going to Mercedes, I think he ran a team racing Merc cars in the past, so there's a weak Merc connection there.
    But it's all speculation and everyone is guessing only the relevant parties know what's going on

    "No reason to go to Mercedes?!" Mercedes will have the best powertrain come 2026. Combine that with Newey The Wind Whisperer and you'll have an unbeatable car.

      I wouldn't. But I'd think it's less likely for Newey to go to Merc. Vibes only- I feel like he's gonna either retire or go to Ferrari.
