- Mercedes are preparing to meet with Adrian Newey and Max Verstappen following the Miami Grand Prix, as part of Toto Wolff's plans to break apart Red Bull and bring Verstappen to replace Lewis Hamilton. Newey is reportedly yet to make his decision on his next steps in the sport, after rumours that he will resign from his post at Red Bull following internal conflict with Christian Horner.

Those teams are looking for a silver bullet, and they think Newey is that, but when everything fails they will blame Newey like Aston Martin is now doing to Dan Fallaws. Red Bull is not winning because a silver bullet, they are winning because every department is in sync, including mechanics and strategy.

I think It could be interesting if the sprints used the reserve drivers. Give the drivers and say half staff some time off. Gives the reserve driver more experience. Maybe even allow sponsored f2 drivers to drive the second car.
Probably not a perfect idea, and I’m sure somebody has a better one. The drivers seem to hate the sprints however, and F1 seem determined to add more. I wanted to think of an outside the box compromise.

Im bewildered by how people are trolling merc and toto for these ' found problem with the car' ' major upgrades' and ' in conversation with' terminologies when none of these are official statements. Its just tactical rab blabbering something in the name of f1 news.
Adrian works only two days a week, mainly on the hypercar RB17. The RB20 is for 95% the work of Pierre Waché. The British media however keep on ignoring those facts. Bizar!

This is purely for cost cap reasons. Newey being on millions would take up a huge chunk so they put him on a split contract.
How can they actually police it? Obviously he's helping more than what his contract is saying.

This is why drivers salary needs to be included in the budget cap. That way a team cant offer a driver more than the cap and more than a small team can afford. They were supposed to stop teams from being able to buy championships. Clearly they failed.
But…but….y’all all say it’s the car! How are teams buying championships with drivers?
@@BruceGagneaux I would agree the car is a bigger factor than the driver but the drivers still have a huge impact. Logan Saergent in a Red Bull still wouldn't win a race. Max Verstappen in an Alpine would be Logan Saergent in a Red Bull. So ya drivers matter its racing but the cars do have a bigger impact.
You think max will drive a Williams for any kind of money. I don’t think so. At least not in his prime.
It’s simply unacceptable to hear this - we don’t know if our upgrades will work from Mercedes. How is this acceptable ?
All these teams are desperate to secure the services of Adrian Newey, but just as after Senna, came Schumacher, came Vettel, came Hamilton, came Verstappen, there is probably a Newey prodigy waiting to be discovered and given a chance.
Newey is nearer the end than the beginning of his career, he may still have the hunger, but with age and experience and a proven track record he doesn't need to prove to anyone anything. At some point a younger pretender will show their face, with new ways of thinking and working, maybe the teams that miss out on Newley need to be looking not at the current crop of designers, but for the next Adrian Newey.

I’ve heard that Max and Jos Verstappen and Helmut Marko and his Dad are moving in with Toto & Suzi at there Berlin Mansion and Suzi has agreed to train Helmut’s grandma to drive a DTM car. This time I actually believe it’s true! Watch this space guys!
I sure wouldn't go to Mercedes if I were Max because they don't know what they're doing. The collapse of that team since the start of '22 is 1 of the most puzzling sagas I've ever seen in F1. How THAT team can't figure out..anything, seemingly, on their car is amazing, but I see no reason whatsoever to trust they'll build competent cars.
I think newey would like to work with a team that haven’t been dominant for a long time, bring them back to their winning ways possibly, Mercedes have had their 7 years of fame, why would he want to go there, makes no sense! I also find it hard that he’d want to move to Italy, Aston seems more favourable as a location but I doubt he’ll want to work with lance lol! The only thing Ferrari have that might persuade him is he’s always regretted not working with them and Lewis Hamilton, now he has chance to tick both those boxes off toward the end of his career so we’ll see

*rumors* Italian sources says Ferrari and Mercesdes are teaming up to rip RB apart. It seems Newey will go to Ferrari and Verstappen and Marko do Merc. Atm Ferrari lawyers are actively helping out Newey getting out his contract without a gardening leave.
Newey will not go to Mercedes when lewis is going to Ferrari. Lewis and Fernando is on Newey radar to work with before retirement, so why go to a team that neither of them are going to be in. Ferrari at this point is the very best decision for Newey to go to.
Mercedes would keep Newey in England which seems like that was a priority for him. Toto behind the scenes planting all these rumors to through people off, lol. 🤭

Red Bull are NOT about to make a brand new powertrain just right with this being their first whack at it. Mercedes is the best powertrain maker followed by Ferrari. Max would be best served at Mercedes for the new rules
Merc sucks.... Seriously, what's "the best" engine got then in the '22 regs? The '26 regs are not about engine dominance (ice gets smaller).... they're only able to buy their way out of the average team they truly are. Big money is ruining the sport.

he's close to have it. 1 or 2 FP sessions and it's good. i believe? Toto wants to get him at 18 ready to race. so he'd need to have Kimi earlier to start working on the sim and drive the car when he can to get comfy with it as soon as possible. but Toto will not throw him in a car in such state. he wants to have a driver with enough experience to recover the car with the engineers to have a decent car ready for Kimi. that's why it's complicated for Mercedes right now.
if they get Max that means George will be out soon for Kimi. if they get Sainz, it will be only until Kimi is ready (about 2 years max!) so George will stay at Mercedes with Kimi. Sainz wouold be the best scenario for them as they probably don't wanna get rid of George yet. maybe next year depending of his results in 2024. but for Sainz it's not a good deal at all. for Sainz the best would be to go at Audi with #1 status and big contract money.

Merc is the place to be in 26' with this new powertrain formula.
The '22 regs don't make the engine front and center....'26 regs make the engine even less of a factor but Honda clearly makes the best unit currently (smaller gearbox, more reliable). Mercedes is an average team that only wins when they can spend massive amounts of money. Even the talk about getting Max to drive for Merc and Newey to join Merc....their plan is to out spend all teams. Do other teams spend wild amounts?...yep. But, Merc really only knows this plan as THE plan to be competitive....$$$$. Hope they go down in flames because teams like this ruin the sport.
