Hall & Oates are called "Philly Blue-Eyed Soul" that's what the music critics call them....and they Love Motown and Reggae music so most of their songs have that kind of feel to them. Yeah glad you guys like them. Peace Out!
There is a show called Live at Daryl's House, different artists come over and jam... many times they take these classics & a newer artist will put their spin on it, or Darryl lends his voice to their songs. It's always awesome!! This was always one of my favorites of theirs!😉 you're going to get a LOT of recommendations, I'd listen... there are no wrong answers with those boys!!✌♥️
Love me some Hall & Oates..they still hold the record for the best-selling duo of all time..they have reached the top 40 with 29 of their records and 6 of them hitting #1 ... an awesome rabbit hole to explore, they are great! Keep On Rockin'
Daryl Hall has a show on TV called "Live at Daryl's House". Find that and check it out... He brings various artists into his house/studio and plays and has dinner with and talk music. Sarah Smile.. Man-eater..
This song came out when I was in gradeschool with heavy radio play, saying or singing 'bitch' on the radio was a jaw dropper. Great song. Walk On The Wild Side by Lou Reed comes to mind also because it was risque in other ways for radio play back in the 70s. Love me some Hall & Oats, and of course Lou and some Velvet Underground (RIP Lou).
"Man-eater", "Private Eyes", and "You Make My Dreams" are probably my fav Hall & Oates songs....you guys have def heard "You Make My Dreams" you just dont know it yet lol
It's not just because I love so many of their old hits. It's because Daryl Hall is still bringing the best musicians together at his home studio and recording THEIR hits while giving a behind the scenes, backstage pass view on RUclips videos. I believe you two will love, love, love Daryl's House. You two make me really happy, and I would love to share the experience of you enjoying some of these fantastic songs. They've been doing their magic since the early 70s.
You need to listen to "One on One" by them. Kind of a basketball reference metaphor. But Darryl's vocal range is superior. His mom taught him how to sing an protect his voice.
Hall and Oates was one of the best blue-eyed soul groups in the seventies and eighties. I love all their stuff and even Darryl Hall's solo music is great! 💖💖
Daryl Hall was the voice of the two. John Oates helped write the songs and back up vocals and rhythm guitar. There's a show called live from Daryl's house. And he has different artists come on and they play Hall & Oates songs and songs from the particular artists. And it's awesome Daryl is like 75yrs old and can still sing with the best of em.
I love Hall and Oates! They are the best of blue-eyed soul! They were big in the seventies but really big in the eighties with a string of hits on the pop chart! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm 54 so obviously I grew up with this music which was everything! I have a 16 yr old daughter and this is one of her favorite songs. Her boyfriend who we love so much, his parents are around our age, my husband is 57 and he also loves this song. And that's a big deal to two teenagers who listen to hip hop
Hall And Oakes reminds me of the old soul bands like the Temptations, Four Tops and Smokey R. and the Miracles, etc. Believe it or not, I loved Motown music. My first concert ever was The Supremes.
They had their own original never heard before sound like all the iconic bands from the 60s through the 80s that we enjoy. That was the great thing about that time in music.all brand new. I'm 61. It was magical. Everywhere you went music the music was playing as it came out. Life moved to the beat of it for everyone. Then it died in the 90s. But what a run it had and I am blessed to have been right in the middle of it. Motown. More motown. We don't want that to ever dissappear. It stands at the top.
I watch episodes of Live from Darryl's House daily. Darryl Jams with many artists here. Check it out. Especially the ones with Celo Green, Smokey Robinson, Amos Lee, Grace Potter, Joe Walsh, The Ojays, Kenny Loggins, Wyclef Jean and many more.
Hall and Oates both grew up in the 60's and early 70's on Motown and their Philly Soul. They have been going strong for 45+ years and are still selling out big arenas and smaller venues today. Other current songs to hear can be seen on Live at Daryl's House, who he works with current artists, on his website and RUclips.
Ooh yes! If y'all still going down the Hall & Oats rabbit hole check out these songs: POSSESSION OBSESSION and PHILLY FORGET ME NOT. These are super catchy and the lyrics are straight to the point, which is what this duo is about and one of the reasons they're so good. Sending y'all positive vibes and Peace and love. Hope y'all have a great week!
Hall & Oates became popular in the '80s. They were together for a long time and I believe they are still friends. Daryl Hall went out on his own. He started Daryl's House live. He has a house on the East Coast where he invites other musicians to play with him and they have dinner. You can find this on RUclips. He had some excellent musicians there. Maybe you could check out Goo Goo Dolls on Daryl's house live. The song is Iris.
Daryl Hall was very into 1960"s R&B( Motown Etc.) Even knew a lot of the old groups and musicians from that era (The O-jays Etc.). Really admired them and I think you can kind of always hear his R&B influences in their early material.
I visualize the library across from my Jr. High School 1977, I thought this was their first hit, but SARA SMILE and SHE'S GONE were released the year before.
Daryl Hall & John Oats nail that Philadelphia soul sound. Their harmonies are tight as Tupperware. An interviewer asked John Oats to define his job, and he quipped, "I'm the highest-paid backup singer in history!"
Darryl Hall has a show on TV and he invites his friends to his home to dinner and jam. It's an old White House and he has redone it by himself. He lives in the country and he's so nice and down to earth!!
What's cool about Daryl Hall, is that he has always been "real people". Hall & Oates were mega-stars in the 70's and early 80's, and Daryl actually lived in a regular old apartment in the West Village of Manhattan. Same with Paul Shaffer. You'd often see them in the corner Korean deli, hailing cabs, walking down the street with a girlfriend after it snowed...just like us "regular folks" :-)
"Sara Smile"...You keep doing Hall & Oates without one of the nicest songs EVER!!! Suggested it a million times...Hall & Oates-"Sara Smile"...it`s amazing! The only bad thing about "Sara Smile"...it ends. And, you were so impressed with Steve Perry...you must hear "Foolish Heart". C`mon!! :)
It sounds like a throw back because it is a throw back. I think this song came out in 83. Daryl has a show or had a show on AE. You should check some of them out. He has all kinds of people come to his house and jam out.
The RRIA said Hall and Oats were the most successful duo in rock history ever, in 2014 they were inducted to the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame ☮️💜. They definitely got credit for their impact on rock and pop
This really isn't a throwback for them though. This was the Era they came up in musically. The mid to late 70s. Extremely popular in the 80s and early 90s. Still touring now. You should check out some of their RUclips videos called Darryl's house. They have other artists come to their house and they sing their hits plus their own hits. Make sure to check out their song Sara Smile if you haven't already. That's my favorite.
Hey y'all go down the rabbit hole, they have a massive catalog and are one of the biggest selling artists in American history. Singing duets in a rhythm and blues style like that is incredibly difficult and nobody, nobody did it better than them.
Hall and oats was the last 70's Sound coming out of the 70's Whhhhhole different era time planet. I remember that vibe. Very loose and community friends family outside the internet to get in the way.
Hall and Oates took pop songs that could've been disasters and treated them with the highest level of musicianship, arrangements, energy and funk/soul feels. They were old school in that there is a sense of schooled performers. They also do their best (each musician) to not play straight chords. There are complicated chords with lots of color tones. Also, if you listen to them live, you'll notice that even though they play the same progression four or five times, each player mixes it up and plays each verse/chorus slightly different so we don't (and they don't) get bored. They're also listening to each of their band mates, not stepping on what someone's doing, but often times playing off what someone's doing. For soul/pop it's top tier stuff all around.
Everytime I hear Hall & Oats I think of there song redone by Simply Red called "Sunrise" - you have to ck that one out. It's a remix of Hall & Oats song "I Can't go for that"
In 1976 when this song was released no one called any music " blue eyes soul" . Hall and Oates was Pop Rock with some Southern Rock thrown in. We called soul music by anyone just Soul Music. I'm sorry but this song isn't up to the level of Soul Music. I love the song. It is a feel good easy to dance to song from my teen years that we all knew was Pop Rock. I'm sure people today call it lots of different things I'm just speaking on what we called it in 1976.
Hall & Oates are called "Philly Blue-Eyed Soul" that's what the music critics call them....and they Love Motown and Reggae music so most of their songs have that kind of feel to them. Yeah glad you guys like them. Peace Out!
Hall & Oates - now you know. Their classics, "Sarah Smile," "Everytime You Go Away," "Man-eater."
Love you two and your always real reactions. 💕
Every time you go away.......= PAUL YOUNG* !!!!
Can't go wrong with any of these. I haven't seen many people do Man-eater would love that one.
❤❤❤❤
I have always loved Hall and Oates' music. They were on the pop charts when I was a kid. I remember skating to them in the 80s at the skating rink.
Also had the 78. Oh ya on vinyl
Yes!
I used to watch 'Top of the Pops' with Hall and Oates, but then they stopped coming around...
Blue eyed philly soul and Wyclef Jean’s favorite Hall and Oates song.
Philly soul mixed with a little pop.
Best selling duo of all time.
Have a great day.
There is a show called Live at Daryl's House, different artists come over and jam... many times they take these classics & a newer artist will put their spin on it, or Darryl lends his voice to their songs. It's always awesome!!

Hey live from Darrell’s house is some of the best shit you’ll ever watch
Agreed
I watch episodes of Live from Darryl's House daily.
"Man-eater", "Private Eyes", and "You Make My Dreams" are probably my fav Hall & Oates songs....you guys have def heard "You Make My Dreams" you just dont know it yet lol
Kiss on my list...Private Eyes....Maneater....Im sure you will love reacting to those Hall and Oates bangers.
Sara Smile is a classic of theirs!!💥♥️
It's not just because I love so many of their old hits. Hall and Oats met as young backup singers for record producers Gamble and Huff in Philadelphia. You can definitely hear the influence.
Hall and Oates are the best selling duet of all time. They have an extensive catalogue of great songs. Enjoy this sinkhole you dived into. Peace!
Blue eyed soul!! One of my all time favorite bands!! Own there albums and CDs!!! I had a thing for Hall!
You need to listen to "One on One" by them. Kind of a basketball reference metaphor. But Darryl's vocal range is superior. His mom taught him how to sing an protect his voice.
This was another school bus jam we'd hear all the time. I always had bus drivers as a kid that liked to jam on rock & roll radio.
Hall and Oates was one of the best blue-eyed soul groups in the seventies and eighties. I love all their stuff and even Darryl Hall's solo music is great! 💖💖

By 1987, the R.I.A.A. recognized Daryl Hall and John Oates as the number one selling duo in music history, a record they still hold today.
The song is written about Daryl Hall‘s then girlfriend Sarah Allen‘s ex-boyfriend
the song was called bitch boy but they told him radio wasnt gonna play that lol if u listen at the end he says your a bitch boy lol
They played Hall&Oats on black radio when I was a kid
Man I listened to so much of these guys takes me back to some good ol days. Man they was always so fire 🔥
I love Hall and Oates! They are the best of blue-eyed soul! They were big in the seventies but really big in the eighties with a string of hits on the pop chart! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Them and the best of all time, Michael McDonald. Tough call for blue-eyed soul king. Lol.
High and dryyyyy - outta the rain, it's so easy to hurt others when you can't feel pain. Best line, very relevant.
When music was music and had meaning.
Thanks you 2. Awesome as usual!!
They were the ones who did Sarah Smile. Should out live from Daryls Studio he has some amazing artists with him just singing in small studio.
Hall And Oakes reminds me of the old soul bands like the Temptations, Four Tops and Smokey R. and the Miracles, etc. Believe it or not, I loved Motown music. My first concert ever was The Supremes.

Hall & Oates were Philly Soul with blue eyes. Keep going, there's a lot more to hear and love.

I saw them live at a festival over ten years ago and they were 🔥. You Make My Dreams Come True is my favorite
Just saw them LIVE Oct 2021 in Ft. Worth! Great Show! Did you know Darrell Hall is almost 75!
It sounds like a throw back because it is a throw back. I think this song came out in 83. Daryl has a show or had a show on AE. You should check some of them out. He has all kinds of people come to his house and jam out.
Best selling duet of all time. Philly Soul
Hall and Oats are the one duo in recording history.
You may want to listen to "Do what you want, be what you are". It's one of their best songs. 👍🎶🙂
Every Song of theirs is "one of their best Songs" ! 😂👌
You guys gotta react to the many artists that visit and play with Daryl Hall at "Daryls House"! Most consider them Philly R & B
Hall and Oates don't get nearly enough credit for their impact on rock and pop. Great reaction, and thanks for keeping your reviews open to anything!
The RRIA said Hall and Oats were the most successful duo in rock history ever, in 2014 they were inducted to the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame ☮️💜. They definitely got credit for their impact on rock and pop

Check out Darryls basement, Rich Girl with Dirty Heads on lead vocals, and Darryl playing and singing backup. Its amazing.
Hall and Oates are part of the "Philly sound". Lots of roots in Rhythm and blues.
Hey y'all go down the rabbit hole, they have a massive catalog and are one of the biggest selling artists in American history. Singing duets in a rhythm and blues style like that is incredibly difficult and nobody, nobody did it better than them.
Hall & Oates is this shit! Periodt! I’m 52 years old, worth listening to them and they’re badass!
Rock and Soul. The highest selling duo of all time. Check out she’s gone, or you make my dreams.
Throwback? They were the ‘80s lol. I played this record nonstop! Bought it again in CD in the “90s.
Look up the story of Patty Hearst. This song is about her. Crrrrazy story. Also, Hall and Oates at this time is pure soul.
Timeless. They are part of the whole Philadelphia soul era…….Bowie went thru that phase and wrote some great songs. Check out “Young Americans”
Yep…..you’re correct! Pop duo beginning in 1970 & still going strong with over 60 singles🪗🎼🎸
Song was such a huge part of my pre adolescent years m. Riding my trail bike and doing wheelies before chasing girls😇
Their 70's stuff was more R and B, their 80's stuff got more pop and rock and roll, all equally good, totally different.
I still play my album you are correct 70s vinyl at its finest 🔆
Always felt it was too short. They had soul for sure being influenced by the temptations .
Blue eyed soul was that shit back in the day...being born in 74 and having grown up in an Era of radio, these were the tracks of my childhood lol
Miss the 80's and 90's. In more than one way.
HALL & OATES "LAS VEGAS TURNAROUND" (THE STEWARDESS SONG) & "WHEN THE MORNING COMES"
You say throwback feel...they are just from back! They were big when I was in high school and college!
most successful duo in music history
Check out one of there best and often overlooked songs " every time you go away" great example of Darrell Hall takin us to church
People at first thought this song was about Patty Hearst...I with it were about her, would make the song even more incredible.
I was eight or nine years old when this was on the radio and early Mtv. I think their next hit was Private Eyes.
Kiss on my list was next I think
@@csf7773 ahh! I assumed. Never assume!
@@jamessomers8808 😁
According to Billboard Magazine, Hall & Oates were the top duos in the 80's. They had more hits in the 80's than any other duo.
Hall and oats was the last 70's
Sound coming out of the 70's
Whhhhhole different era time planet. I remember that vibe. Very loose and community friends family outside the internet to get in the way.
H&O came straight out of the Philly Soul scene.
You need to check out MFSB (Mother,Vather,Sister,Brother) with *TSOP* (the sound of philladelphia) 👌👌👌💖
You don't know Hall & Oates until you hear Sarah Smile. Philly Blue-eyed Soul.
It was from the 70’s and it was AWESOME
"It's so easy to hurt others when you can't feel pain". Excellent line.

Hall & Oates are legendary
Blue eyed soul.
Secret fan back in the day. Outta that closet today. These guys wrecked the FM radio waves
Top 40 is what they called it. I'd say it transcends genres because almost anyone can groove to Hall and Oates.
Soul R&B. Loves Motown. The truth
Hall n Oates were also part of WE ARE THE WORLD ❤️
Hall & Oats is late 70's & 80's R&B duo
Are you familiar with the producers Gamble and Huff in Philly? Hall and Oats met when they were bothyoung backup singers in the G&H studios.
They wrote this song about a guy they both knew who’s father always got him out of trouble because he had money.
Excellent, the session studio musicians are outstanding, true professionals**********
Thank you! Y'all are great and the music, so good
They are what was called in the day The Philadelphia Sound because they were from the Philadelphia area
Everytime I hear Hall & Oats I think of there song redone by Simply Red called "Sunrise" - you have to ck that one out. It's a remix of Hall & Oats song "I Can't go for that"
