- Boy treble Cormac Thompson sings A Gaelic Blessing ‘Deep Peace’ and ‘Let There Be Peace On Earth’ at The Salvation Army’s 2022 Christmas concert.
Cormac is joined by the International Staff Band and Songsters and harpist Alison Blackhall at London’s Royal Albert Hall for this annual celebration of Christmas.
13-year-old Cormac Thompson has been singing since he was a young boy. His debut album Hear My Voice was released when he was just 11 years old. Since, Cormac’s boy soprano voice has earned him a place in the final of Young Chorister of the Year-the BBC Songs of Praise choirboy/girl competition-and an appearance on Britain’s Got Talent.

It was a great privilege to support the incredible work of the Salvation Army at their charity Christmas Carol concert in the Royal Albert Hall. I have never sung a solo with a choir or a band before and to do this with the brilliant Salvation Army’s International Staff Songsters and International Staff Band was the greatest privilege of all. This is an annual event to raise much needed funds for the vital work that they do for both local and international communities. I was very nervous when I did this 😅 I’d been quite ill with a really bad cough and flu and I couldn’t go to the rehearsal and although we didn’t know at the time my voice cracked completely the week after so if it had been a wk later I couldn’t have done it at all I’m so glad that it just hung on for that little bit longer so I could sing in this fabulous place 🤗

Oh my goodness Cormac! I was tearing up for two reasons, a/ the beauty of you, your voice, and your performance, and b/ the bittersweet happiness/regret that your going through that transistion which all boys must go through. Even in all it's rawness of your voice changing, it was one of the most beautiful performances I've ever heard from anyone, at anytime. All the best in going through that change from little boy to young man.

He‘ll adapt and turn out even better! Puberty is nothing bad, just takes time to adapt, get used to the new instrument so to say. There are positives like volume of the voice and big range. He‘ll still have a stunning voice and all the training from childhood will still be there as a real craft treasure:) Looking forward to it. Hope he‘ll still love to sing!

Thank you Robert, I really appreciate when someone understands my changing voice which it really is now. I was quite ill before this concert which didn’t help either. I had flu and a v bad cough I thought I might have to pull out. I’m so glad I didn’t have to and I was able to do it 😀 it was an amazing experience 🤗

@@CormacThompson Amazing! Lower notes, due to the softer and more relaxed vocal chords, require a lot more breath control to maintain quality, and a loose upper body, neck and jaw to maximize resonance. Yours sound great in this performance! Keep working hard!

Your performance was brave and outstanding Cormac, is worthy for a full appraisal to perform for such a worthy cause at the Royal Albert Hall, a magnificent auditorium so world renowned. What struck me Cormac, you have accepted to perform part in solo with such experienced choir and musicians in a unique setting of an auditorium you were not accustomed, must surely have been a daunting experience. With certainty, you are an inspiration to sing in such difficult circumstance whilst learning to master a changing voice, however I notice the sweetness was present and it is that you must preserve.
It is very early hours of Christmas morning I was able to find opportunity to listen, being I had run into difficulties when initially listening to your premier invitation, hence I will be making a small contribution to such a worthy cause.
