Lenin and the Bolsheviks could have humbled them down that they would became grateful and also appeasing to the White Russians to stop fighting, they could have united all of Russian after the Great War by that point. But no, they let their anger and bitterness get the better of them and they included 4 girls and a young boy to be massacred out of their hubris.
What hits me the most is seeing his friend’s interview being an old man and I realise how much time has passed by since his death but he hasn’t forgotten Alexei 😢 Like years passed by for him but Alexei will forever be 13

So terrible to know your life is likely over soon at age 14. Knowing it will be by execution is totally horrifying. The end where he looks into the camera and nods to us goodbye is heartbreaking. He turns away and faces his destiny. Brave little soldier. God rest them all.

Touching Heartbreaking account on the last Letter written by Alexei during the captivity along with his family before their untimely deaths it’s so tragic. This sweet innocent boy was only thirteen years old when he’s precious life was cut short

Although, the past cannot be undone, but let facts reveal the truth. Czarevich Alexei was an innocent child and full of life. He had the potential to be a conscientious leader, even if the imperial family be regarded as Ceremonial not Political at current standards.
He was raised by a loving family. Czar Nicholas II was a good role model & took him everywhere, and did not let his disability stopped him. I see the gentleness in his eyes, his playfulness, his commitments to service to his community. Sweet Kolya still adores him to the end.
We do not want a fake King with no power. give us a real king, not a puppet of parliament and bankers.

Historical records indicate that Alexis was NOT the last to die. From the letters of the assassins, it was Anastasia or Maria that let out the last gasp.
Yeah the sisters survived the bullets because they had jewells sewn in their corsages
He was probably the last to die "in that room". The fact one of his sisters turned out to still be alive and sat up screaming (allegedly) in the truck wouldn't change that. And who knows maybe the story about Anastasia or Maria screaming was just propaganda to make people think one of them could have lived.

When I feel sad about this poor little boy, I remind myself he is resting in the safest place in the universe, God's memory, and nothing can hurt him anymore. He is safe and sound until the Lord calls his name in the time of the end and he along with the rest of the dead will answer. In the meantime, may he continue to rest in peace, regardless of where his bones are.

I think Olga and Alexei both knew what was looming on the horizon, basically what was in store for them and their family, you can see it on that photo 📸 from May 1918 when they are travelling from Tobolsk to Yekaterinburg and Alexei really doesn't look very well at all.
I love the bit at the end when he's sat in an automobile and he turns and looks straight at you and nods.
Tobolsk and Yekaterinburg are both lovely places to visit actually, just not easy to get to!!!

Who was he? I have never heard of him until now
He was the last heir of the last Royal Russian Family of Russia, Alexei Romanov.
His name was Alexei Nikolaevich, Tsarevich of Russia (Heir to the russian throne.) He was unfortunately executed by the Soviet dogs whilst in captivity due to his fathers actions. He died a painful death long side the rest of his family at a very, VERY young age of 13 years old.
Have you ever seen the movie Anastasia? He was her baby brother. Well, the real Anastasia's brother, anyway, not Anderson's.

Parents make mistakes all the time and usually with the best of intentions.
The mistakes Nicholas and Alexandra made read like a road map to Hell with the best of intentions.
Nicholas should've told his people that his kid was sick rather than hide it.
He shouldn't have prosecuted the war the way he did when Russia was so ill prepared to fight it.
I understand the mysterious need for Rasputin and his hypnotic healing abilities on the boy. I don't understand the parents' desire to let Rasputin influence political decisions to the extent he did.
I think it was partly to do with Alexandra's inability to focus due to the girls having measles, Alexei being ill, and her husband away on the front lines. It was easy for a male figure like Rasputin to step in. And i think Nikolaus was grateful for her to have comfort.

@William Phillips I don't think it was incompetence. More like, trust in the wrong person. Nikolaus kept up on Politics. Alexandra, being so private and closeted her whole life, knew nothing but her narrow view. But he was so religious, he always believed God for example, put them together, and would implicitly trust her. Not incompetent. Just focused on the wrong "ally". She could be an ally in his marriage. But not in politics. Had she been shrewd like Elizabeth the Great, or Elizabeth the II of England, or even someone like Eleanor of Aquitaine. But she had suuuuchhh a basic and unrealistic view due to her own reality. Grossly uninformed.

@William Phillips I would say he definitely had depression. But was also taught that everything that happened was divine. We can't imagine why they were so devout. Cuz hardly anyone is now. It's how he was raised and taught. Also, he tried to give his brother, Michael the throne. The Bolshevicks didn't allow him to take it. Lenin killed more Russians in his short time, than Nikolaus ever did.

There really was no way to kill the tsar and NOT kill his son. The "Heir" loomed way too large in the mind of the people for that to work.
It was still a rotten thing to do. And a sin.
Whereas it was wrong to kill the boy and his family, in WW1 numerous teen boys, some as young as 14, were killed because of the conceit of the Kaiser of Germany, a relative. Absolute monarchs have done untold harm throughout history. I am not suggesting the Russian royal family at that time were bad, but there were such divisions in Russia. In any case, I would see Lenin and Stalin as absolute monarchs too. Maybe a constitutional monarchy in a democracy is fine. I'm open to argument on that point as any monarchy encourages the notion that some people are a better class than others through birth.
A monarch who rules through the annoiting of God is better than any president elected by the conceit of the people.
