  • On August 12th, 1904, the longed-for son, the heir Alexei, was born. Those who knew how the Empress had prayed and waited for this crowning happiness in her married life, and who understood the importance of direct succession in a country like Russia, can realise what this meant to her.
    The boy was big and healthy, and early gave promise of great good looks. No signs of the hemophilia that afterwards developed in him were noticeable at the outset. Notwithstanding the serious atmosphere caused by the war, the baby's advent gave unmitigated joy to the parents. "My sunbeam," the Empress used to call her boy.
    The birth of the Tsarevich Alexei gave the Empress popularity. The criticism that had been heard of her too-great domesticity was heard no more. The Empress had done her duty to the country, and the knowledge of this gave her greater self-confidence.
    Baroness Sophie Buxhoeveden was a Baltic German Lady-in-waiting, in service to Empress Alexandra of Russia. She was the author of three memoirs about the imperial family and about her own escape from Russia. This video consists of her memories of Tsarevich Alexei Nikolaevich Romanov.

      What a lot of people don;t know is that Nicholas II went to the Duma to attempt to change Tsar Alexei’s previous ruling about women (due to his mother Catherine the Great). Nicholas II KNEW Alexeis wouldn’t survive and wanted to name Olga his successor who would have made an EXCELLENT Tsaritsa (female empress title) - and Nicholas II - but it is said that Alexandra would not have a bar of it for “baby’s sake”…..MAYBE if Nicholas had abdicated in favour of Olga Nickolavena who was EXTREMELY popular (and actually knew what about politics and had her finger on the pulse of the people). In fact, even in her diary she stated that she knew that Rasputin HAD TO DIE but the way it was done was wrong (and I do tend to agree with that). Anyway if Olga was Tsaritsa I tend to think that MAYBE the Romanovs would still be a Constitutional Monarchy today.

    Czarevich Alexei had the potential to be a great leader. Czar Nicholas II & The Czarina Alexandra Feodorovna raised him well. His Father took him to work, he did boot camp , to Church ceremonies , and other stately affairs. He was close to his Mother & sisters & clearly showed love & respect for them. He was educated & spoke several languages. He was a normal boy who did not let his disability limited him ( he wanted so badly to jump into the water from the pier). I love seeing videos of Alexei being playful, and being respectful when he is with the Czar on his duties. Also, to hear about his last letter to his friend & to hear how his friend adored & misses him dearly proves how loving was the Czarevich. My daughter is now 20, but it was her who introduce me to the Romanovs when she was in 6th grade. I think she had a crush on Alexei, but knew it was silly as “he would be 100 years old.” But, she loved his sisters too. My son is 20, and the Czarevich reminds me how sweet, smart & playful a little boy can be. But also, if raised well, he would grow up to be a fine gentleman.

      If Nicholas didn't lose power Alexei would have had the royal family fall. This royal family had no chance in surviving past Alexei. Alexei wasn't educated to run a country just like his father. He was a brat and treated people poorly and got away with anything. He wasn't being raise properly and that was terrifying to know he was a future tsar. He wouldn't have been better. Russia would still have been poorly off or even worse than when they were living under Nicholas. Nicholas was clueless at running a country and Alexei wouldn't have been any better. They could have left Russia from there easily. Once the revolution broke out it was impossible to escape. The family was trapped inside the Alexander Palace. Kerensky sent them to the safety of Tobolsk away from revolutionary St. Petersburg. Later in 1917 the Bolesheviks too power. In July 1918, after being sent from Tobolsk to Ekaterinburg, the family were all murdered on 17th July along with remaining servants. Sophie says Alexis was healthy but fails to point out his bleeding from the navel as a baby, a sure sign of haemophilia plus his bruising easily. The Empress also never had popularity. Alexis also never showed any signs of being exceptionally bright. He never lived long enough to achieve much academically. One of the major reasons why Alexander III and Maria Feodorovna did not want Nicholas to marry Alix was that they were only too aware of haemophila running in the Hesse-Darmstadt family. Alix's brother Frittie had died from the disease. They also found their goddaughter rather peculiar having known of her from a very early age. There was nothing 'mild' about the haemophilia suffered by Alexis. The Doctors made it quite clear there was nothing they could do to help him apart from recommending he avoid situations where he could injure himself. That is why Nagorny and Derevenko were appointed as sailor 'nurses' to keep a constant eye on him. Of course Alexandra was completely to blame for passing on as a carrier haemophilia to her son. All her daughters could have been carriers as well just as her sister Irene was. Nobody knows about Elizabeth as she never had children. May died too young to know. The older sister Victoria Alberta was not a carrier. Alix's first cousin Victoria Eugenia was a carrier along with her other cousin Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone. Alexandra's Uncle Leopold, Duke of Albany was a haemophiliac and Queen Victoria was a carrier. Alexandra was highly delusional and diagnosed as mentally ill in 1910 by a top German physician. Of course Alexandra dressed extravagantly. One look at the clothes of hers that have survived shows this. She never truly cared or understood the great sufferings faced by the majority of the Russian people. She spent monies all too easily and did nothing to stop waste at the Russian court. She had along with Nicholas a ridiculous new village built at Tsarskoe Selo plus the Livadia Palace, both totally unnecessary. Alexandra also quickly lost her youthful beauty and looked old beyond her years very early on. Alexandra also had many new pieces of jewellery created from expensive tiaras to smaller items. Her tiaras were staggeringly expensive. She did not favour wearing existing jewellery. Bad luck did not follow Nicholas and Alexandra. It was their repeated stupid mistakes that brought the once great dynasty crashing down. They never listened to anyone in their family at home and abroad or to leading Russian statesmen. They never prepared any reforms. The entire progrram is deeply flawed.

    The Tsar and Tsarina should have listened to Rasputan.
    Alexai was Leo ♌ Dragon 🐲. He would have had lovers, many.

      @Martha Thacker,
      All the women he pleasured during orgies may have something else to say.
      When it came to Alexei, The Tsarina would have used the devil no matter how filthy.
      Alexei was the only reason Rasputan was called to their Palace.

      Its because they listened to Rasputin caused all their trouble, the tzarina considered him a by man with great powers, because if he prayed for alexi,HD always seemed to recover much quicker, KT was just luck.suppose you can't blame the ,Empress , in times of great illness peke clutch at straws,particularly when a child is involved

    That was a terrible time for women - never expected to be intelligent & use that, just be tokens for the men.

      You're always supposed to be ungrateful? I guess selfishness is a essential part of female genetics. Next time you brag about women oppressed, search "why women outnumber men in Eastern Europe". Over 65% of Russia's male population died in one century so that the lazy women could live.
      Women are not supposed to be as intelligent as men, smart women have genetic mutation and weird biologics, because God created men strong and wise in governing and women to be kind and a good mother. Everyone has a different role, don't deny yours and don't steal someone else's.
