    Hello, Becky! This video was very helpful for me because I'd love to work in the Parks & Recreation field. I currently work with an organization that provides funding for local parks & similar organizations that help protect our environment. However, I have always wanted to work in the field specific to the parks themselves. Your video helped me to understand what different types of positions are available in this field as well as how to try out each position by looking into volunteer and temporary positions. Thank you so much!

      Thank you so much Jenna! What a thoughtful comment :) I really appreciate the feedback and I'm so so glad it was helpful. Good luck with your move into the field, and I wish you the best! If you haven't checked out the Let's Talk Parks podcast, it will also help you understand more about the field!

    This is great! I agree that there are not a lot of resources out there for people looking into the parks & rec field. I look forward to seeing more videos from you Becky!

    Seems like a dream job. :) By the way, what can you say about the parks and recs sitcom? Are there situations there that resemble reality or none of them give a good representation?

    Hwllo Becky, I have worked as a Recreation Leader 2 since, 2016 of March. I work at the youth center in town. I have my Associate in Arts in Liberal Arts, and my Associates in Science in Recreation Management. I would like to experience more Parks and Recreation experiences. Would you have any advice? I am part time, and am disabled. I do use a power wheelchair to get around, and do not drive a vehicle. My job is maybe 5 minutes away from my house.

      Hey Ryan - Volunteer opportunities are always interesting to explore. You never know who you may meet. I would also recommend starting to look at other park/recreation providers in your area. My advice is to look at your specific strengths at your current job and what you love, and then to find opportunities for you to continue to excel in those areas. Make sure that resume and cover letter are up to date and be open to new opportunities! Hope that helps.

    Do you have any suggestions on a major that would be a great combination with this degree?

    • @beckytalksparks5364
      @beckytalksparks5364  3 года назад +2

      There are a lot of different degrees for parks and recreation - some by many names. For instance, mine was "Natural Resources Recreation and Tourism" Some go by "Parks and Recreation" or "Outdoor Recreation" or "Leisure Studies." This seems like a good idea for a future video. :)

      @@beckytalksparks5364 well what i am referring to is a another major outside of Recreation Parks and tourism management that can serve as a great backup/ motivating factor for employers to hire you and even pay better. For example, if you have a degree in IT this may be useful when working at the office preparing programs for ranger talks or doing research. Do you get what i am saying? I ask this because being in this field doesn't pay much but when you have another major in your back pocket this can help you get a better pay and get that job as well

      @@jarlymoyadelgado6697 Yes I think I understand now. I think our field is generally moving to become more business minded - so anything related to business or accounting - you could become an analyst or be more involved in the executive level type of positions. If you went with a marketing degree, you could assist with graphic design, brochure development, social media, etc. Or like you mentioned you could go the IT route and be more involved with innovations, mapping,etc. . I'm not sure if it helps income wise, but I've also seen people utilize wildlife or forestry degrees as well.

      It's been a year since you put out a video and 2.2k views is pretty good. Think of it like going to a small town festival and you have TWO THOUSAND fans enjoying your music, would you stop creating music after seeing that many fans or would you be motivated to make more music to continue to make those fans happy 😊
