I've been looking for jobs in environmental science where I can work outside and this is one of the 1st things that came to mind. no matter how much research I do, I keep coming back to this. being able to help protect whatever land I can and to help teach kids how powerful they are and teach them to respect the environment sounds amazing. I don't want to be stuck at a 9-5 desk job where I feel like im not contributing anything. This is the kind of job that makes you feel alive. I don't want to have looked back and regret spending the majority of my life just doing meaningless work for a large company that's destroying our planet.

Try to get into the government park service thru pathways if you’re still in school, it is the best way to get into it before committing a permanent spot.

Just look at the jobs or careers posted. You could go interpretative or law enforcement paths. The more skills you have improve your ranking.

@discorperted Cool, keep up with the stats..really makes you seem that much more intelligent than us regular folk, doesn't it? haha. I don't know why I expected you to understand, but I suppose it's difficult to think straight, your head being so far up your own ass it's probably a struggle to even breathe, so BRAVO. My only question is, if the NPS is so engrained in the culture of "epotism" then why were you able to get a job there? are you just THAT lucky? I doubt it. Me thinks you are a lot more like those people than you claim those people to be, it seems to me you are projecting. You should really work on that, can find you a good psychiatrist to work through these issues (no joke, not trying to publicly shame you any more than you have publicly shamed the other commenters... I'd seriously be willing to give the help if you'd be willing to recieve it.) Have a good day!

Main reason it seems enticing to me is because i can benout in the woods, clean up and collect data and not deal with alot of people.

Those skills will absolutely serve you well. You do have to deal with a Lot of people... Million(s) visitors every year from around the world. And there is some crime. People stay for a week or longer in tents, RVs, etc. So you have such things as domestic violence, drugs, drinking, loud parties, loud music theft, sexual assault, injuries, people lost, etc... that you have to contend with.
You have to keep a cool head. The people skills and “soft skills” are harder to teach.
You can study and learn about the flora and fauna, plants, wildflowers, trees, and deer, bears, etc.
I was a Professor for 20 years training students in Outdoor Recreation - at Ohio University.
We specialize in Experiential Learning - which means you do some studies in the classroom, but are also, “out in the
field” many weekends - actually developing real skills such as orienteering, map and compass, traveling using GPS, etc.
We have a Specialty in White Water Kayaking, and also preparing our students to be White Water Rafting guides .
Ohio University even has their own kayaks, paddles, PFDs (Personal Flotation Device) etc. that degree is called Adventure Recreation.
      Our Outdoor Recreation

    • @rdmittelstaedt1
      @rdmittelstaedt1 Год назад

We also have a degree in Outdoor Education, so you learn ecology, about ecosystems, names of plants, trees, etc.
No Trace Camping, survival skills, how to build a debris hut to sleep in if lost and alone.
Good luck to all of you who want to become a Park Ranger!!
I was a mountaineering instructor in the Sierra Nevada mountains in CA. On our 23-day courses, we did a resupply of food in Tuolomne Meadows. Our support crew from Summit Adventure would meet us - our Base Camp was at Bass Lake, CA.
We would go to Yosemite several times each year, between mountaineering courses, - just to hang out, to hike, write in a journal,

Both protecting the wilderness from humans and vice versa. Education is the most impactful and important, if not the most glamorous job for a wild man like yourself. Even if those kids grow up to never leave the indoors, education will hopefully make them think of the environment when they vote. I get the feeling you wouldn’t last 3 minutes in front of a class of children, but maybe I’m just judging based on appearance. How funny would that be? I’d rather “walk the line” too though, Mr. Cash.

What about the hundreds of people who went to this park only to disappear off the face of this earth and not even a dust fragment of their belongings was found, something bad is def out there. but nonetheless one of the most beautiful places to exist in the USA. a couple serial killers have also prowled this park in the past and will also in the future; My take on this info is, yes enjoy the park and love the nature, but respect its massive wilderness and immensely powerful dangers as well, stay safe people and make sure you keep your children at view at all times, you never know when you turn around, and your child is gone; the heartbreak this park has caused a lot of families is uncouth.

too funny. be a brainless , lazy hall monitor- outside- and get your Cap'n Crunch authority badge and it is honorable ?????? where is the contribution to our economic system. They produce absolutely nothing of value.

@@joecascade5105 not everything has to contribute to the economic system, and obviously they are producing something of value. Let's all let the planet go to shit in the name of the economy, right? Protecting earth is the best thing anyone can do to make sure we all don't go extinct.

Personally, I feel slighted. No Sasquatch, no blondes, no naked campers...NO DAVID PAULIDES SAFETY BRIEFING! I just feel that the National Park Service was not fully represented here in this video! Thousands of Sasquatch in North America, most in the National Park System, and NOT ONE was shown! How discriminative!
