A Tribute to Lazar Đukić

  • Today is the saddest day in CrossFit history. We are shattered by the loss of Lazar Đukić along with the entire CrossFit community.
Lazar was one of our sport’s most talented competitors, but he was much more than an athlete. He was a son, a brother, and a friend to practically everyone who knew him. Fiercely competitive, incurably joyful and uncommonly kind, Lazar was the sun of any room he was in. The loss of his light is inconceivable.
The first instinct to shut down. To isolate. To mourn.
But the only cure for grief is to grieve. And the best way to grieve is together. In our community, coming together to do hard things is how we pay tribute. In this spirit, we have decided to move forward with the 2024 CrossFit Games.
This weekend is dedicated to Lazar Đukić. We will open today at 10:00 am.

@@Fhshaoaksbd I don't know what point you're trying to make. Saying that they simply "didn't notice him" is not an excuse when their job is specifically to spot someone who is struggling and offer assistance.
Say someone comes into the emergency department with chest pain, and they note they have had acid reflux before. If you're the doctor and assume they just have heartburn and send them home with Tums, and they die because you didn't run any tests and they were actually having a heart attack, aren't you responsible? No, you didn't intentionally let that person die, but you didn't do all the things you should've done. If these "lifeguards" had been closer, had kept all the swimmers in view, and had taken the concerns coming from the crowd more seriously, there's a good chance this man would still be alive.
If their "vantage point" was the problem, they simply should've found a different vantage point.

Thank you for sharing your story. It inspires me to try to join the U.S. Military. I’m 41 and tried to join the Air Force, but due to psych meds I was taking at the time, recruiter said I need to have at least 3 years of being off the meds and have a doctor’s note before trying to enlist. Went to Army and was told the same, but only one year of off meds. I’ve been off meds for about a month now, feeling great and won’t plan on going back on them. Tbh, I feel like I was misdiagnosed and sadly, it’s a common problem that I see with doctors who prescribe pharmaceutical drugs. I’m in good shape, workout everyday minimum 2-3 hrs plus plenty of time in recovery. My plan is to try to enlist again after one year. Air Force, Army, Navy, it doesn’t really matter which branch, I just want to serve my country and make myself and my family proud.
As for those two inch heel Army boots, I wonder if you could purchase your own Army-standard boots - I’ve seen some on social media - Belleville boots - they have minimalist ones. I wear minimalist Xero trainers for almost everything, they’ve been a game changer. Check out the boots though.

When incidents of this magnitude happen (especially that of gross negligence), time is always taken to assess the safety and security situation. They have created an amazing community of athletes and friends that are fierce competitors and then love each other "off the field" and they always find a way to drop the ball or screw things up.
