I've been following Steven Wright since the early days, seeing him in interactive situations with different egos over the years. I'm happy to be able to reconnect with Steven, I thought he had burned out, especially when he more or less went off the grid for quite a number of years. Thanks to RUclips and now The Jayleno Fly making it possible to develop a timeline, chronicling his appearances past and present, I got a feel of where the man's head is...far from the earth at any given moment. Steven always takes over the interviews and his glib, deadpan style often confused his interviewers, with his concepts flying over their heads very quickly. It is taxing, to say the least, as an audience participant trying to keep up with Wright. It appears Ferguson has managed to match his outside-the-box and abstract humor and throw him off balance. And as this compilation shows, Wright warms up to Ferguson around the third meeting in this series and actually gets Wright to crack up regularly, something I didn't think possible. This compilation is perfect to display the interaction of two silly men utilizing Pythonesque humor but on a bit more intellectual and less silly level, although the silly is certainly scattered all throughout meetings. I am watching for a second time and still have a big grin on my face that will continue till the finish. Lots of fun. I am glad he and Ferguson have gained a new group of fans and they truly appreciate his slightly off-kilter way of thinking. In the 80's I was walking down 57th St. in Manhattan with a girl friend who had hair just like Steven Wright's. Walking along we actually passed him talking to someone. As we passed he just barely turned his head, and hardly interrupting his conversation, said to my friend, in that deadpan way, "Nice hair." My friend and I laughed and his eyes kind of twinkled.
15:43 a really good example of Wright's comedic style, and a trap that Craig falls into. "He was using a dotted line." You get a face and eventually a smile from Craig, he's thinking technically and he thinks it's a pretty decent joke. Then he relaxes, and Wright goes on, "he caught every other fish." Craig had already let his guard down and the add-on genuinely surprises him and he can't help but laugh.
Steven Wright truly is the Salvador Dalí of stand-up. Fantastic compilation, too bad about the missing appearances. The chemistry between these two is amazing.
This was a stroke of genius, Mr. Fly! It never would have occurred to me to gather up as much Steven Wright as possible! This was so much fun to watch. I remember seeing Steven on various shows throughout the 90s, and "I Have A Pony" was one of the first comedy albums I bought as a teenager. Thanks so much! Another wonderful job well done, sir!
Never seen anyone stump Craig before. There were so many times that he just didn't know how to respond, but he was able to make Steven laugh, too, so his brilliance still shines through. Thanks for editing and posting.
I love this with Craig Ferguson, you can see how awkward the guests are the first time they are on, then after a few visits you can see how comfortable they are. Like Wright, Kunis and Freeman are great examples of this.
Clash? I think Steven and Craig complemented each other. They both love going off on tangents. I remember Steven saying he loved going on the show because Craig was one of the few that could make him laugh. :)
I didn't mean to give such a vibe with that word. They clearly complement eachother as you say. I've observed that also, craig could make him genuinely laugh.
Stephen once said “my grandpa had me go into the closet with him and slid the door shut and said it was elevator practice“ I’d like to think this is true and that’s where he got his sense of humor!! Thank you so much for posting this love Steven Wright!❤😂😅😊
This is a real gem. Two of my favorite comedians in a 2 hour compilation of interviews. Thanks for taking the time to find all of these clips and putting them all together. :)
Yeah, I saw him a couple times. The first time, I reached a point where I wanted him to stop, because I was literally in moderate-to-severe pain - stomach, back, shoulders - from laughing hard for roughly 90 minutes straight. The thing is, most of his jokes are one-liners, so they're all punchline. You don't get any recovery time before you're busting a gut again. Oddly, the second time, he wasn't terribly good. Don't remember exactly why.
Simply Genius. Can you imagine just setting in the same room with these two and not necessarily taking part in the conversation but only listening for just one hour? Forget Drink or Drugs you wouldn’t need them whatsoever. What a trip. “I’ve been having premonitions of flashbacks “
These are two of the funniest people I've ever seen. Craig's high energy comedy plays off well against Steven Wrights laid-back style perfectly, and vica versa.
There’s something very intriguing of two people who can have absolutely nothing planned but can carry on a comedy routine for 20 minutes about absolutely nothing and not one hitch. It’s kinda like watching a painter that has no idea what he’s going to paint, throws a splash or a squiggle of paint and goes from there. Somehow it comes out uniquely beautiful and you just have to have it and take it home with you.
I've just been on a binge of those Ferguson compilations - with Steven Wright, Eddie Izzard, Betty White, Billy Connoly, and I noticed something in Craig I've never seen being present so much in any of the other late night hosts. He treats all of them as his real genuine friends. And even more: he mimics the styles of his guests' sense of humor for their segments. When he's with Steven Wright, he adopts Stephen Wright's sense of humor. When he's with Eddie Izzard - he adopts Eddie Izzard's sense of humour. While most of the hosts usually remain themselves despite of the guest. Like he knows and understands all their senses of humor from inside. Like he's a meta-comedian or smth. And he's immersing himself in the world of his guests. I find that so admirable, a really high evolved human sense of real empathy and understanding the guest on a deeper level. That makes Fergy so special and genuine among the late-night hosts.
I’ve been binge watching these myself. I started with all the women, didn’t realize he also had men on...Good premise with no annoying band, and no condescending.
@Spalien Acecraft I think YOU do black tar heroin.😏 Seriously dude, why would you say something like that? He's funny, that's the reason people watch... I really don't care about the other stuff..personal life, political affiliations, that shit is ABSOLUTELY unimportant to me.
I think that is a great observation. I am going to check out more of these, I watched a bunch onetime and now I know what it is that I like so much. Ferguson has to be the most present host on television, I don't think there is an arrogant bone in his head.
Yes, I was amazed by his connection with Robyn Williams..they appeared to be lifelong friends, then I watched other episodes with OTHER comedians and he appears just as comfortable with anyone else. I'm sure that there is a natural comradery between comedians just like any other group of like minded people, but it really seems to be more than that because I've not noticed this "connection" between other comedians. He is just THAT comfortable to be around it appears.
I love it too...but Steven is sort of out-gunned here. His standup is absolutely brilliant, but it is written, practiced and performed as standup...he isn't a match, in my opinion, for the absolute brilliance of Ferguson, when they are both on the fly, riffing. There were some funny moments from Steven, but he seems genuinely awed at Ferguson's comedic brilliance, and often doesn't seem to have a witty comeback. Agree the best pairing ever was Craig and Robin Williams...those two were on the same level, and kept ascending to higher levels as they riffed...those were wonderful shows! I sure miss Craig (not to mention Robin!).
@Brandon S At 2:13:00 "You have one of the best, fastest comedy minds I've ever seen in my life." He literally says its entirely improvised, you clearly didn't watch any of it.
Craigs brilliance shines through in these videos. You can tell Steven has a huge catalogue of one liners as well but Craig lives in the moment and very hard to keep uo with
THis was fantastic. Started watching this vid thinking it was dumb and a waste of time and I'd never make it through the whole thing, but after splitting it up into about 3 nights, I had so much fun and even got teary eyed by the end. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!
That Anette joke is so fucking clever. And then Steven Wright still manages to bring it to another level and say "it wouldn't have worked if she was named something else" ... and I just think that's so intelligent and quick.
It's amazing how abstract Steven's mind is, folding topics and jokes into/over one another and seeing Craig piece it together to see the joy that comes out of it. Purely awesome
One my favorites ever was Stevens first visit to the show and he is used to the host being the straight man and Craig is cracking up the crowd with these subtle jabs, and Steve stops looks at Craig and says: woah man, you are far out. He had no idea what a madman Craig was. I miss Craig.
Two of my very favorite comedians. They are perfect together. They should do a TV show together, based on their unique brand comedy. Man, I think that would fly and fly well.
Love Steven Wright. I remember my favorite bit of his was about wearing mirrors on your ankles when you go into the woods, because snakes are afraid of snakes too. Or that snakes are so grumpy because they can't wear vests. Or, I live on a one way dead end street, I have no idea how I got there.
2024 sitting at home in Malaysia and laughing my nuts off. Two absolute comedy geniuses. Only really seen Craigy Ferg match Steven Wright to bring out such magic.
This guy is hilarious!!! The shopping cart joke had me laughing so hard. Some comedians can really make the simplest jokes incredibly funny just by the delivery
I agree, especially about that one! I immediately imagined myself doing exactly that the next time I’m in a Walmart parking lot. Then I realized, it’s all about context. Nobody’s expecting comedy in a parking lot. Nobody would’ve laughed and everyone would have thought I was an asshole.
Stephen Wright is such a damn comedic genius. One of his DVD's had a bonus short film about a man returning home from war. It was completely silent, and one of the funniest damn things I've ever seen.

In the 80's I was walking down 57th St. in Manhattan with a girl friend who had hair just like Steven Wright's. Walking along we actually passed him talking to someone. As we passed he just barely turned his head, and hardly interrupting his conversation, said to my friend, in that deadpan way, "Nice hair."
My friend and I laughed and his eyes kind of twinkled.
15:43 a really good example of Wright's comedic style, and a trap that Craig falls into.
"He was using a dotted line." You get a face and eventually a smile from Craig, he's thinking technically and he thinks it's a pretty decent joke. Then he relaxes, and Wright goes on, "he caught every other fish." Craig had already let his guard down and the add-on genuinely surprises him and he can't help but laugh.
that fucking joke had me laughing hard, and watching Craig take that second part of the joke made me laugh even more. Amazing delivery
Steven Wright truly is the Salvador Dalí of stand-up. Fantastic compilation, too bad about the missing appearances. The chemistry between these two is amazing.
Dali and Carl Jung of comedy
Missing? Which ones are missing?
These guys play off each other so damn good. Great comedy chemistry.
The few times Steve breaks are so telling! This is a rare filmed moment where two geniuses work hand and hand without ego to create something special.
Sure thing bro! Thank you! Happy you liked it man:D
- Why am I loving all these Ferguson compilations so much?
- For tax purposes.
I love how Steven is so entertained by Craig.
It's cool that he's still entertained by vastly less talented comedians.
Craig's the only late night host that could make Steven really laugh.
I had never heard him laugh or even seen him smile until this.
He's entertained because he admires Craig's talent......... Did you not watch?
@@superscatboy I think he admires Craig (also welcome back to the world of SW)
When you get two great comedians, top of their game, together it is priceless. I love to watch them crack each other up.
I loved the late late show. I didn't realize how many times Steve was on it.
They must have been great friends.
Never seen anyone stump Craig before. There were so many times that he just didn't know how to respond, but he was able to make Steven laugh, too, so his brilliance still shines through. Thanks for editing and posting.
The best talk show host....ever. He's quick, crazy, and keeps pace with the crazy Steven Wright.
I love this with Craig Ferguson, you can see how awkward the guests are the first time they are on, then after a few visits you can see how comfortable they are. Like Wright, Kunis and Freeman are great examples of this.
Craig is currently my "Best Late Show Host Ever". Really glad to see he had S.W. as a regular. Like peanut butter and chocolate, but in outer space.
The highest compliment you can do to a living legend like Stephen is that rate moment that you make him laugh.
Fantastic :D! It was fun doing it, sure thing!
These two are amazing. Each one creates comedy gold on their own. But together? Phenomenal!
I saw Steven Wright live in the 90's. Fantastic comedian. I love how these guys clearly spent every segment trying to make each other laugh.
YNWA
“I’ve been having premonitions of flashbacks “
your( wright) you wouldn't need drugs to listen to these two craigs😵💫
These are two of the funniest people I've ever seen. Craig's high energy comedy plays off well against Steven Wrights laid-back style perfectly, and vica versa.
This was a real "blast from the past" treasure, thank you so much!! I always loved Steven Wright's twisted humor, & this was absolutely a treat!👏🏼🤣💓✌🏼
It’s great how they trade setups and punchlines like jazz musicians improvising.
If only pornstars could be that creative.
This is what comedy is all about. Damn, they complement one another so well. Thank you for uploading this gem 💎. Many many thanks.
The Robin Williams segments are side splitting😂🤣😂
The chemistry between Craig and steven is strange.. but right. They compliment eachother. It's like a good rock song.
@Brandon S wut r u implying
Yeah they do compliment each other!
Steven: "Nice suit";
Craig: "I like your hat"
Brandon S i think Craig's show isnt staged. Thats why it fucks up all the time lol.
@Brandon S At 2:13:00 "You have one of the best, fastest comedy minds I've ever seen in my life."
He literally says its entirely improvised, you clearly didn't watch any of it.
Same here. The last segment when Steven opened up hit me in the feels.
Yeah, that was a genuine moment, spontaneous and heartfelt.
This literally brings me out of my dark depression thanks so much for putting this together. It saves life's.
Hope things are looking up Chris! Take care.
I totally relate...hope you're better
@@caseyclausen2627 Thank you Casey, slowly but surely they are thanks to people like you 😂
@@shijo222 thanks Aya I am how are you? Its funny the comedians who are the funniest have been through the darkest. Same way with musicians.
Thanks for putting this compilation together. Can’t tell you how much I appreciate it.
Try...
It's a weird feeling being so filled with joy and at the same time bummed out that you can't give a video more than one thumbs up.
That Anette joke is so fucking clever. And then Steven Wright still manages to bring it to another level and say "it wouldn't have worked if she was named something else" ... and I just think that's so intelligent and quick.
Floored me 🤣
do you have a time stamp?
@@myearshurtnoone1367 1:00:09
It’s one of the oldest jokes in the book, but they made it pretty fresh
@@fezzik7619 crazy, I never heard it before.
Oh, he is a legend. Thank you for uploading all the laughs at his creativity.
Steven is just flat out my favorite comedian of all time! He is just so much more unique and smarter then other comics to me.
Agreed
It's amazing how abstract Steven's mind is, folding topics and jokes into/over one another and seeing Craig piece it together to see the joy that comes out of it. Purely awesome
What an amazing comedy instrument Steven Wright is. And he's been playing like a virtuoso for 40 years.
how is it i never heard of this man, but only having seen him on craig's show for ten minutes, i can tell he was one of the all time greats.
He does some really funny stuff with Conan....especially the recent podcasts.
One my favorites ever was Stevens first visit to the show and he is used to the host being the straight man and Craig is cracking up the crowd with these subtle jabs, and Steve stops looks at Craig and says: woah man, you are far out. He had no idea what a madman Craig was. I miss Craig.
Craig is the last late night comedian I watched on a nightly basis. Moments in time never to be regained, only rewatched.
Unbelievably funny! They have very compatible sense of humour. Fantastic!
Two of my very favorite comedians. They are perfect together. They should do a TV show together, based on their unique brand comedy. Man, I think that would fly and fly well.
NOBODY can make Steven laugh so much as Craig and Josh, legends
The empty box comeback. Love these two. Masters of their craft.
Never been familiar with Wright, but man this is the BEST of all his guests, I watched this like a movie. Thanks!
I love how they test who can go longer with their made up bit
Great job & dedication JLF
hahah , they make for a great combo!
Thanks man!
2024 sitting at home in Malaysia and laughing my nuts off. Two absolute comedy geniuses. Only really seen Craigy Ferg match Steven Wright to bring out such magic.
This is one YT video that's actually worth bookmarking.
Undoubtedly the best talk show host to ever live. These two need to do a podcast
In all my years, I've never seen Steve smile. But the Snatches joke made him give a grin.
Appreciate it you jackals
@Epsilon Karamazov what is the name of the DVD? Thanks
@@LordStanley94 Sorry, bud. I rented it from a Family Video probably 8 years ago. Just buy every single one of his DVD's, and it should work out for you.
@@overweightactor thanks. You are right
Its probably on utooob
@@eskee1 just buy it. Artists need money too
Those two made such a great duo, each trying to out weird the other :)
"Premonitions of flashbacks" reminded me of his line to Paul Russer on "Mad About You" about being a "peripheral visionary"...I can see off into the future, but only off to the side.
Steven always barely hides his laugh at his own humor, but Craig breaks him.
This is such an amazingly wonderful compilation!! Thank you so much!! I miss the days of Steven Wright & Craig, they were the best!👏🏼💓✌🏼
He was always hard to find on TV. One of the funniest guys ever. l love his dog, Snatches. Another time he said he scheduled an MRI to find out if he had claustrophobia.😂😂😂
Steven Wright is my favorite comedian, his dry humor kills me.
IF you don't know him, there is a treasure trove of vids online.
But would you really know him after looting the "treasure"
Thank you Jay Leno Fly I love how you find and edit these treasures. Having them from several years in order adds a lot.
I loved the Robin Williams episodes and can't wait for more. Subscribed today.
It's so much fun watching Ferguson out-surreal Wright. Wright is NOT used to that.
what a treasure this is! rediscovering Steven Wright. My chest hurts from laughing.
i would go see a dr. first just to be on the safe side if i were you.
im done gabye!
These two were always hilarious together.
These are two of my most favorite comedians in the world. Together they are freaking the most!!! Thank you
