I could watch them just converse for days or weeks on end and not get bored. They each have varied life experiences and educations that compliment each other when they talk to one another. Craig also has a wonderful ability to just let someone make their point, or just to shut up and listen if he doesn’t know about something so he might learn. Sophomoric I believe refers to College Sophomores. I dont find him irritatingly stupid at all (and I often do with comedians). I am pretty sure he's very aware of how-maybe sex-obssessed?- he is but he is also being honest about male sexual feelings, and he also pushes it further because that in itself is funny. And he is really quick.
I agree I have been hugely pleased to see how well-read and thoughtful he is. I doubt that Colbert, Stewart, Kimmel, or Seth Myers (or Letterman) are as well-read, though I enjoy them all. I suspect it is because he grew up in Britain. In 8 recent visits, I have been so pleased to so often find myself in conversation with Brits from several walks of life who take pleasure and enjoyment in learning, reading, and discussion.
I’ve never payed attention to a video that was this long and wasn’t a movie. I wish I knew half of what Stephen knew. That man is just so intelligent and witty. I need to find more of his stuff to watch. That video was brilliant.

This compilation -- more than any other -- proved to me that the best present I could ever have would be a week of conversations with Craig Ferguson. I always loved him because he was so quick witted and nutty. But my word, he is such a deep thinker and so erudite. I sit here and write down the names he mentions so I can read up on them!
These two learned and enchanting gents are simply a wonderful to listen to. I am so very happiness to render my time to them, as I feel I have gained something or remembered something I had lost long ago.

I feel strongly that no one will ever read this comment, but I am helpless to say it nonetheless. I have been a huge fan of Stephen for ions, but my confession: I never knew Craig could keep up with him. I am ashamed to admit this and wonder how I missed his intellect!! I will probably now binge-watch all of your videos. This has been such a rewarding and pleasant surprise! And, thank you!!
Will save this video like a great book to read again and again on a regular basis for educating my self with good english vocabulary. Plus the huge, abnormal thank you for those informative descriptions made by author of this youtube channel. Please do not delete this video. Will watch it for many times in the future :)
The sit-down interview they did was like an early version of podcasting. Craig was so far ahead because he wanted to be so different from normal late night shows
Not at all - this is just Craig pivoting to another familiar format of that time, akin to shows like Charlie Rose. The amazing fact was that he could pull it off on a comedy talk show such as his - and that’s because Craig Ferguson is the man.
1:15:20 The story of Walfish playing cello for Mengele is so horrifying and moving, and the detail of hearing Traümerei with it brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.
Stephen is great. I've always been in awe of people like him who can quote so much from literature just like that. I mean, I have read books and other texts from a lot of sources but mostly I can never remember the exact quotes nor who said them. Of course I have my own principles and aspirations and I can try to explain them in my own words, but never in quotes from other people.
Wow, just came across this tonight. I'm sending links out to friends and family. Stephan Fry, incredible! Stephan Fry and Craig Ferguson, fantastic! Craig you are sorely missed on late night tv.
It's nice not having an audience constantly interrupting the interview. They do make it fun but it's much better to be able to really focus on the interview now and then
I love the occasional caption at the bottom. I'm a big fan of Stepehen Fry and Craig. This is a very interesting video that I wish I'd found much sooner. Thank you.
The constant images of things to give context has been the best form of passive aggressive intellectual contempt for this guest’s humor…or should I say humour 😅
A pair of BRILLIANT, Adorable Characters conversing and reciprocating with one another- ESPECIALLY when it comes to Substance Abuse, It is SO IMPORTANT to express the Fundamental functions of two people who can UNDERSTAND why they have Over-Indulged. 1:15:26-1:17:30 The audience is absolutely silent. A testament to Stephen Fry's talent for bringing people into the story. The subject obviously plays a part, too.
I have problems sleeping, where i am awake until 6 am, or later, then i sleep for 12 hours; when i wake up, I am immediately in a bad mood, because I have "missed the day." Today, in addition to that, the weather is cold, grey and drizzling. I get up, anyway and turn to RUclips and see this video, intending to watch just enough to save it in archive, but instead, I watch the entire video. Hearing Stephen Fry speak did not "cheer me up" (that would be asking too much of anyone), but, it helped me to reach a more balanced state of mind, which I think is the most that one person can do for another, and he does it so well. I'm sure, somewhere in Shakespeare there is a line about "the sweet voice of reason"; well, I think when Reason speaks, it is in the voice of Stephen Fry.
The way he talks about Wagner... makes even me fall in love with the composer even without listening to it. It almost made me well up. I want there to be more people like Stephen in the world.
Thanks for posting this - Much as I love some talk show hosts, there are very few I would watch an old show by and of those I think conversations with Stephen Fry must be one of the best reasons to do so.
thanks for the uplaod and all the work you put in!.I really do appreciate all the time and effort that goes into your videos, so if it ever gets frustrating just remember how happy you make us.

Boy oh boy that was a heavy watch wasn't it? Stephen Fry makes you feel like an uneducated, ignorant dunce. The amount of knowledge he possesses and the way he articulates it is awe-inspiring.
But he never flaunts his knowledge, he shares it, as any truly wise person should. He wouldn't belittle you for your ignorance (unless your name is Alan Davies)
@Big Cat Little Lion actually while ignorant and uneducated are synonyms and redundant, dunce often means the inability to learn or be educated. It's sort of a synonym to stupid but not quite.
I met a handful of Americans when I lived in Vancouver. Unfortunately, they were not very pleasant people. It was the height of the summer holiday season in London when I returned home, and one could have been forgiven for thinking one was in America. Every single American I met, without exception; was friendly, polite, respectful, all in all, utterly delightful, and Mr. Fry is here to prove it.
@The Jayleno Fly: Thank you. Also, @52:07 Craig tried to berate himself in order to compliment Stephen but Stephen would have none of that and, being a thorough gentleman, he steered the conversation to the empty chairs. That went on for about a minute. These guys are just amazing.

Comedians are often intelligent people. Some of them are very very intelligent.
Can we just get a full hour weekly of Stephen and Craig chatting in a room without an audience present?
Oh yes please!
okay
I’ve never payed attention to a video that was this long and wasn’t a movie. I wish I knew half of what Stephen knew. That man is just so intelligent and witty. I need to find more of his stuff to watch. That video was brilliant.
Stephen Fry is one of my favourite British comedians and actors. Absolutely amazing humour and a an absolutely brilliant mind.
I've watched all of Craig's ingenious interviews over the years. This was the clear winner in pure wonder
I cannot look away. Both of them extremely present, honest, and vulnerable. What a beautiful thing to watch
My goodness! I've been watching your videos over the past couple of weeks - and thoroughly enjoying them, of course. However I must say that the amount of work that you've put into this one is simply outstanding. Thank you Thank you Thank you, The JayLeno Fly - you deserve and award of some sort for what you're doing, in particular for what you've done here. XLxoV
I think this comment is better than any award I could receive for this. Thanks man! Glad you found here and please enjoy!
I second this statement. L O V E D it.
Devouring these provocative conversations with Craig and Stephen Frye.
The conversations between Craig and Steven were an absolute joy. Thanks. Really miss the show.
Dare I say this is a relief from Craig flirting with gorgeous women and its good to hear that he has an intellect
Actually, the erotic can be highly intellectual. Smart is sexy.
"...to pinch the loaf of that thought, as it were..." 🤣 Best line I've heard in a long long time.
well twitter is certainly different now than that 2010 interview, it's probably one of the most toxic places you can visit online (thats mainstream)
These two learned and enchanting gents are simply a wonderful to listen to. I am so very happiness to render my time to them, as I feel I have gained something or remembered something I had lost long ago.
1:11:36 for the record, the 'Brazilian Senator' he's referring to here is current-president Jair Bolsonaro
oh really ? 😂
somehow when he mentioned that I just knew that, even though he doesn't say his name
a well spoken ,well educated, intelligent man "English" .i could listen to Stephen Fry talk for ages
Stephen Fry....bowing down. Craig brilliant. Classic conversation. Worthy of archiving.💙💙💙
"If you're subject to mood changes over which you have no control, it's very tempting to take some drug or substance which can control your moods. Because then you have a semblance, or pretence at least, of being able to control your moods."
Thats deep. Nailed it. How did you know? Lol
Monte McCarty 😂😂😂👌🏻
I don't think I have ever watched a more fascinating conversation in my life. The sheer depth and breadth to the topics discussed was immense. I loved every minute. Thank you so much for sharing it.
I could listen to Mr Fry speak...forever! His vocabulary is amazing!
Holy hell man! I think I've learned more from this show than from my years in school. Thanks so much for your work. You are my favorite channel on youtube
hah :D Sure thing bro! That's a great compliment to me, thank you man!
This is standard English Language and Literature and spoken word. It was a normal part of my primary and the grammar school. What on earth are peoples education like?
Then you should watch the QI series that stephen used to host and now it's hosted by sandy toksvig.
Best host ever. Best guest ever. Period.
The no audience one should be going on forever.
Indeed. Why have an audience ? American shows always have canned laughter.
I love the pop-in references of what they are talking about.
A great proof of his intellect and wit is that he is one of very few that could keep up interviewing Richard Ayoade 😊
If Craig was going to only do the audience-less show, Stephen Fry was the one to do it with. So delightful, both of them.
God, I miss this show! 😢😢😢 I always loved his segments with Stephen Frye.
Will save this video like a great book to read again and again on a regular basis for educating my self with good english vocabulary. For me as non native English speaking person this show was high school lesson.
And with most beloved hosts in person.
Plus the huge, abnormal thank you for those informative descriptions made by author of this youtube channel.
Please do not delete this video. Will watch it for many times in the future :)
The sit-down interview they did was like an early version of podcasting. Craig was so far ahead because he wanted to be so different from normal late night shows
What happened. Is he still alive, Craig, I mean. Xxxsusan 🎶🧲🌟🤣🤞🫂🙏🏻
Same. I've always admired that talent, which I too lack.
Loved the audience free interview. Loved watching Craig relax into it.
Wow, just came across this tonight. I'm sending links out to friends and family. Stephan Fry, incredible! Stephan Fry and Craig Ferguson, fantastic! Craig you are sorely missed on late night tv.
Stephen.
Thank you.
A true "Renaissance" man born out of his time. Both an erudite and funny individual whom many more people would benefit being exposed to.
Which one ?
The constant images of things to give context has been the best form of passive aggressive intellectual contempt for this guest’s humor…or should I say humour 😅
This video is a masterclass for all TV hosts.
Craig Ferguson is just the best of the best. Nobody could compare to him.
Graham Norton?
A pair of BRILLIANT, Adorable Characters conversing and reciprocating with one another- ESPECIALLY when it comes to Substance Abuse, It is SO IMPORTANT to express the Fundamental functions of two people who can UNDERSTAND why they have Over-Indulged. This is a VERY IMPORTANT Compilation. I applaud and Relish in that; 'The Jayleno Fly'. You have just earned yourself a New Subscriber!
1:15:26-1:17:30 The audience is absolutely silent. A testament to Stephen Fry's talent for bringing people into the story. The subject obviously plays a part, too.
Wow!
The subject is the only reason. You aren't allowed to behave any other way. They will ruin your life if you don't.
"They" 😂
@@OnnoSlot1988 are you saying that isn't true?
Wow, their conversations were fascinating, and they got better over the years.
The way he talks about Wagner... makes even me fall in love with the composer even without listening to it. It almost made me well up. I want there to be more people like Stephen in the world.
This is amazing. Probably the most thought provoking and intellectual interviews I have ever watched. Thank you! @The JayLeno Fly
Glad you enjoyed it bro!:D
Thanks for posting this - Much as I love some talk show hosts, there are very few I would watch an old show by and of those I think conversations with Stephen Fry must be one of the best reasons to do so.
thanks for the uplaod and all the work you put in!.I really do appreciate all the time and effort that goes into your videos, so if it ever gets frustrating just remember how happy you make us.
I would counter that Mr. Fry is a gift OF the world and I think I deserve to listen to stimulating and thoughtful people and if you appreciate it as much as you seem to, SO DO YOU 🎉💐✌️
The alien 👽 part is so deep, i never thought that way.. that's why this is soo awesome! Thank you good sir!
He is a teacher he uses his knowledge to make you want to improve your own
@@Wabajak13 Oh he does on ocassion and i absolutely love it. Especially in the show QI when he was still hosting it
@Big Cat Little Lion actually while ignorant and uneducated are synonyms and redundant, dunce often means the inability to learn or be educated. It's sort of a synonym to stupid but not quite.
Idk I didn't think he made me feel like a dunce. He seems so accepting - vive la difference type of thing.
Two very interesting, intelligent and gorgeous men - I could listen to them forever ...
Uhh gorgeous? 🤨
Could listen to Fry all day, it's a bit worrying.
Type: 'RHLSTP Stephen Fry' in RUclips search.
I just wanted you to know that I appreciated your edits. Well played, indeed.
The annotations and the clips on the side were actually very helpful and neat, so thank you!
which was my only hope with doing that! Fantastic! Thanks for the feedback!
no problem :)
What a worthy and brilliant montage!! Thanks not just for putting it all together, but adding the small factoids. This is great!
@The Jayleno Fly: Thank you.
Also, @52:07 Craig tried to berate himself in order to compliment Stephen but Stephen would have none of that and, being a thorough gentleman, he steered the conversation to the empty chairs. That went on for about a minute.
These guys are just amazing.
