I love Craig Ferguson, I’m a recovering addict, and I remember him talking about his disease back when he had his show. I was full blown chaos, I wanted to die. I remember thinking wow, I’m not the only one. He’s so funny and charming he made sobriety seem like something I could maybe achieve. Thank you Craig.

So much of what defines him now seems to flow from that honesty.
If something is good for him, he does it. If it is bad for him, he doesn't.
He flies because he wants control over his fear of flying. He doesn't drink or celebritize or eat meat, because he knows the better way.
I think that people get angry at vegans because they realize that it's the better way but cannot give up the yum of animal products. I know I cannot.

@@ader3336 It's not that it's a better way, it's just a different way. Would you agree that consuming produce out of season that is shipped in from all over the world probably isn't a better way? Over 60% of our produce comes from South of our border. How much fuel is used to bring grapes to your table in January shipped in from Peru?
Mass factory farming kills animals each and every spring. Rabbits, groundhogs, badgers, squirrels, mice, bird nests with eggs/chicks etc get tilled under by tractors with the dirt, or sprayed with pesticides/herbicides, etc..
I've been vegetarian, vegan, and ate raw for years. I never felt like I was doing something better.

Once I give in to shity food I can't garantee where it might lead, just having crazy sugary foods in the house drives me crazy. "the level of self-deception that occur's within me is triggered by the first drink" and "it's very hard to define alcoholism, I think people have to define it for themselves in an odd way" are 2 of the most wisest thing's he said in this. That and "it's the first drink that get's me drunk, not the third or fourth or the 15th. The first one changes my mind that I am no longer in charge of my thinking". I've been to both outpatient rehab and AA, and those are messages that need to be shared more not only for those sobering up but for those non-alcoholics around them in order for them to better understand

Same. I saw a clip of his about how he was not going to make fun of Britney Spears after her meltdown a ways back, and his honesty was the last straw I needed to pull the cord and check myself into rehab. Tomorrow I'm going to pick up my 9 year chip. I've been lucky, I've worked hard and I haven't done it alone. It's hard work, and no celebrity was going to save me from my own sickness. But I'll always be grateful to Craig for being open about his sobriety, showing me that you can still be cool and giving me the last nudge I needed. It sounds hokey, but without that clip (at that moment) I'm damn sure I wouldn't be alive today.
Good luck to you, friend. It's a rocky road, but don't give up. An advice someone gave me, and that I still live by to this day, is "Don't Drink the First Drink." Don't worry about the third or the fifth or the twelfth. Beer, cocktail, antifreeze, line of coke... Doesn't matter your poison. Just Don't Drink the First. If you do that, every day, one day at the time, you're good. It's both the hardest and the easiest thing I've ever had to do. But it is really that simple. And it works.
EDIT: D'oh. Craig talked about same thing in this episode. Ah well, I'm a parrot. It's still good advice tho.

Is it weird that the best life advice I've ever gotten has been from comedians who are talking real for a few moments.
Thank for the new perspective and thank you for bringing laughter into what can be a messy world.

I watched him every night in 2011 going through Ampligen therapy in Charlotte, NC. The drug caused insomnia and I was away from my family back in Houston. He got me through a bleak period in my life and wish I could shake his hand. Him and Tony Stewart #14 who won the Winston Cup that year. I hated NASCAR until moving to Charlotte and actually educating myself about it. SMOKE retired and I quit watching it wasn’t the same without #14

He's def hearing what Craig's laying out , not sure if he's had a sit down with a sober person, this is one of the ways it looks when a person is figuring out their relationship with alcohol. We can say he acts like an alcoholic but only he can decide he is one.

Bert, you're the best in the "conversation-cast" game that's doing it. It's a pleasure to listen to, and watch, every episode. No one makes a guest feel more comfortable and "safe", more emotionally at ease and able to be themselves, than you do. The honest conversations it engenders are what makes you special as a host. You're such a layered individual, I'm constantly impressed with your depth and scope of interests. It shows through your ability to connect with, and ask questions that are unique and engaging to, each guest.
Congratulations on your success, you've earned it.
