      First mistake here is that the Bible does not say that every human is made in God's image...it speaks only of Adam, or maybe Eve too....b/c by Genesis 5, humans were now made in their own image.
      ....second of all, there were the sins of bodily corruption such as leprosy -- which was not a sin against other humans at all....3rd mistake is suggesting that Pharoah did not realize his sins against the Hebrew people -- but he sure understood his edict to decimate their newborn boys...etc, etc, etc, etc....

      I believe sin is because of pride usually. Pharaoh thinks of himself as more important than justice or kindness matters, so he turns a blind eye to their sufferings. Sin is more like when people are too arrogant to acknowledge their terribleness in flesh, and choose to think the good stuff are from them and not from God Yahweh, so they transgress God's law..

    Though I am not myself a Christian, I recently started feeling curious about the Bible as a historical artefact. I went down to my local church and I was very direct about it... I just told the pastor that I was there to learn about the Bible and everyone was very welcoming! Anyway, as of about a month ago, I've been listening to your podcasts and watching your videos, and you are just amazing at what you do! I don't think I'm an unimaginative person, but I don't think I can actually imagine a better study supplement than the one you provide... basically for free! When I first read it I was astonished how much of what it talks about I had experienced in my own spiritual and emotional life. Dig deep and you may find yourself cultivating a relationship with that which is inside of you. A knowing with your body not only your mind. Here's a good way to explain 'sin' with one word... imperfection. Problem is this, for centuries people have been taught that sin is something people do and they think no further on the subject. Think about this though... what is the very nature of the material universe? Do things constantly change? Of course... trees grow and die, oceans absorb coastlines, some animals eat other animals, clouds form then disappear, etc. etc. everything changes on a daily basis. Imperfection = change. Consider this ... IF there is a creator and that being created US, material beings in a material universe, then the universe was created with inherent imperfection[s]. In other words everything, even us was created with sin/imperfection. It is our very nature to be imperfect and we could be nothing else. An elephant can't be a cat because 'elephant' is that animals very nature. The most disturbing part though is this... assuming god created us as imperfect beings and due to our imperfection Adam and Eve, being imperfect, were bound sooner or later to disobey god. They couldn't help it due to their imperfection. And then... god punishes them [and all humankind] for all eternity for being something god created. I can't speak for you but that seems like a dirty trick, or being 'set up' [as in law]. That doesn't sound like a benevolent deity to me. It would be cruel for a creator to make something imperfect and than punish its creation for being imperfect.

      @Isaac-we2ks Год назад +9

      @@SOMAnxg I hear where you are coming from, but I want to clarify and see if we are on the same page about the creation account as seen in Genesis?
      I’m a newer believer so forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but if I understand correctly, God created everything good. No sin or death was present in the garden of Eden. It was a perfect paradise. No sin was found in Adam and Eve. They did have free will tho, and with this free will, they chose to disobey God (after the influence of the serpent). With this understanding, it seems to me that God set everything up fairly. It would be unfair to not have a choice about obeying God.

    • @SOMAnxg
      @SOMAnxg Год назад +2

      @@Isaac-we2ks You assume too much. What you assume is what you want. But what people want isn't necessarily 'true'. For example you're assuming the Garden of Eden was an actual place. You should be aware all of that is fable and not fact. One example it's not 'true' is ... let's start with the notion of an omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent supernatural god. Next... it is claimed that god created the 'heavens and the earth". If one were to assume that were true, then why wouldn't god know that using 'matter' as a means of creation automatically and naturally makes those things created imperfect? Before even a thought entered their heads. It is the very nature of matter to be imperfect. "Perfection" from philosophical and theological worldview implies that something is so perfect, to change it in anyway would make a perfect thing imperfect. Ok... what's the very nature of 'nature"? The world surrounding all of us changes second by second, minute by minute, day by day, etc. What does that imply? It implies that matter by its very nature is imperfect. Matter can't exist in any other way because it is governed by the physical laws. Thus, assuming Adam and Eve were created as physical beings, they were imperfect from the very instant of their creation. An all knowing god should've known that. And if god should've known that why would a creator expect them to act perfectly? It's against their very nature. Then punish them for being imperfect? What kind of reasonable parent would do that to a child of theirs?

    • @arithelion5946
      @arithelion5946 Год назад +4

      @@SOMAnxg I know it's been three months, but I'm going to answer you anyway:
      I think you assume too much (to borrow your turn of phrase). You assume that God created matter imperfectly, but there were no imperfections before sin. The very nature of the world changed after sin entered it. For example, before sin there was no death, no thorns, no physical pain, and no rain (instead there was a layer of dew over the earth). God knew that Adam and Eve were going to sin, but He gave them the option to eat from the tree because He knew that they had the ability to resist temptation even if they chose not to (1 Corinthians 10:13).

    Hamartia, one of the first Greek words I learned in Bible college. 🙂 I like how the Greek word and the Hebrew word both have the same basic idea, that of missing a target, something you're aiming at (or supposed to be aiming at, anyway; sometimes our "sin" is aiming at the wrong target!).
    This is a good resource. When speaking to non-Christians, I try to stay away from "church" words (or "Christianese"), such as "sin" and "repent" and "iniquity", and instead explain things in words and ideas they would be familiar with (much like your videos are doing). It doesn't help to try to give someone a message if they don't understand the language you're giving it in. So it helps knowing what the "church" words actually mean and where they come from.

    Sin is simply anything that separates us from God. Sin isn't simply, well, sinful because God forbids it - it is sinful because the act inherently separates us from the Lord, the Giver of Life.

    • @user-ez5vq9fd2t
      @user-ez5vq9fd2t 6 лет назад +126

      To add on to that, it is not the sin itself that separates us from God. We can't be separated from God, whether we like it or not; He is omnipresent. However, we RUN AWAY from Him because when we sin, we feel guilt and shame from not being able to live up to God's moral perfection. Take, for example, Adam and Eve: what was the first thing they did after they realized their sin? They hid. Was God any farther from them than before? No. In fact, God was the first to reach out to them and ask, "where did you go?" He certainly was aware of their sin, and He certainly knew where they were hiding (He's an omniscient God), so what's His deal here? He pursued them because they ran away in fear of guilt and judgement. As long as the Law is in effect, humanity would be condemned to a religious mindset and continue to distance itself from God.
      The Good News is that Jesus came so that we could enjoy a full union with God--so that we can run toward Him in full assurance of His love and acceptance instead of running away in fear and shame. The Good News is that God is for us and not against us. The Good News is that God is good and He actually loves us. What kind of parent wants his children to get hurt? When we sin, it's less about "hurting" God, as if God can't handle our sin or as if it will upset Him. The reason God hates sin is because sin destroys His children--it harms them. A loving Father would never want His children to suffer. God created the world, and He knows what is best for us. When He says "don't sin", it's for our benefit, as a good Father only wants the best for His children. Remember: God created Adam and Eve to simply enjoy life with Him in Eden; that has been His desire since the beginning. Sin destroyed that, but Jesus, in turn, destroyed sin and death so that we can once again be fully reconciled to God and enjoy fellowship with Him now and forever in the new Eden.

      Sin, at its very core, is human effort. (I know the video doesn't quite say that, but they didn't go deep enough).

      Unless you meditate, you are not obeying the gospel preached by Jesus and are far from him. Beware the leaven of these Pharisees. The religious dress the part and know nothing of the truth. With their lips they honor him but their hearts are FAR from him. “Why do you call me Lord Lord and do not the things that I say?” “Seek ye first the kingdom of God...”
      “The kingdom of God is within you...”. “Make the eye single and your whole body will fill with light”. How many of you can honestly say you have seen God “face-to-face”? As Jacob did in Genesis 32:30? How does it happen? In what place? It happens when one meditates and it takes place at the PINEAL gland of the brain! Arlen to your true nature.

    If we were to take the original meaning of the word “sin” to be failure, we can look at 1 Peter 2:22-24 as such:
    “He committed no ‘failures’... yet he carried our ‘failures’ in his body on the cross, so that we might die to our ‘failures’ and live to do what is right.”

    Love it! I had this revelation about sin, living in us and how we actually have to die to it and feed the spirit of God. To die for our sin and to live to do what is right. So true this video totally hooks on this same concept. That's why repentance actually feels painful sometimes as part of us, our sinful nature, has to die, inside and spiritually speaking. And it's a process. Sometimes we still do what is wrong until our sinful nature has died completely. We can overcome 'the world'.

    Khata, Avon, Pasha
    Thank you for pursuing this project. I love how you are using a double entendre for this series; teaching us about the Bible's bad words, sin, iniquity and transgression.
    Khata
    Your work on the Khata project (and the NT equivalent Hamartia) is beautiful even though the subject matter is so grave. The image of sin as a roaring lion coming after Cain filled my imagination. You're team is so gifted at breaking ideas down into such elegant categories and then illustrating the implications of those ideas with immense creativity. Thanks!
    Avon
    I am very much looking forward to seeing the way you teach us about the OT word Avon (iniquity or crookedness) and the equivalent NT word epithumia (lust or inordinate desire). So much of our pain in life seems to come from this deep place in our hearts to have some false good satisfy us when, in fact, it is only the person of God that can fill our empty spaces. So, looking forward to the way you treat this word.
    Pasha
    I know that in places like Psalm 51:1-2 and Isaiah 59:12, we see the three sin words together: "For our transgressions (Pasha-rebellions) have been multiplied before Thee, and our sins (Khata-broken laws) have testified against us, for our transgressions are with us, and our iniquities (Avon-twisted desires) -- we have known them (Is 59)." So if Khata is missing the target, Pasha (rebellion or transgression) seems to be a willful rebellion that includes going after the wrong target. I am eager to see if the NT equivalent is the Greek word Parabasis, a word we see in places like Romans 5:14 as violation.
    Can't wait to see this project in its fullness. You all are doing AMAZING work to bring about the Kingdom of God through providing clear and illustrative teaching of God's Holy Word.

      This teaching is a religion teaching from main stream Christianity theology dogma has nothing to do with what the Scriptures says about the matter. What is sin? (1 John 3:4 KJV) Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law/torah: for sin is the transgression of the law/torah. Torah means Instructions not Law but has Laws in it big difference. (Romans 3:20 KJV) Therefore by the deeds of the law/torah there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law/torah is the knowledge of sin. (Romans 6:15 KJV) What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law/torah, but under grace? Elohim forbid.

No. (Again, if my memory doesn't fall me) Tim mentions in this past episode that the punishment for sim doesn't come from God's sadism, but rather is a consequence of the act and of God's Holiness not leaving room for evil near Him. This truly highlights how INCREDIBLY GOOOOOOOD The Good News of Jesus coming to take our sins is❣️❣️❣️😁😁☺️☺️

      The Centrist Gorilla Think of the most good looking human being in your imagination and times it by infinity. This is the closest you can get to imagining what God looks like.

      Isaac Matthews When I was a Christian I always believed god to be basically pure energy. The idea that he is anything like a human is just weird? Why would he have a mouth if there is no food in heaven?

      The Centrist Gorilla
      Well He definitely has a mouth as He took human form in Christ Jesus, who did eat and drink. But the image of God thing that I think you're referencing isn't necessarily a physical description. I recommend The Bible Project's "Image of God" video if you're genuinely interested or curious about the topic. God bless!

    The true definition of sin is how we fail to be truly human. Which is truly good! This truth is apart of salvation that revives my soul more and more everyday. This is why I love the Gospel. This is why I need to live and share the Gospel.

    Could you do a video explaining slavery in the Bible? It seems like the slavery-system in the OT was almost supposed to be...beneficial to the ones enslaved? A six year servitude for people fallen on hard times? Forced introduction to God and how Israel was supposed to live for Him for slaves made from conquered, pagan cultures?
    Could you please explain this?

    The word sin actually comes from the verb to miss. This is because according to the view of most religions, a person who commits sins has missed his destiny in the world. The correct word in Hebrew for sin is "Kheth" (חֵטְא). "Khata" (חָטָא) is the verb in the past tense. To make someone to sin or to miss in a shoot for intense - "Le-Hakhti" ( לְהַחְטִיא). To sin in Hebrew is "La-khto" (לַחְטֹא)

      John Do thanks for shedding light on this! I see that all those words come from the same stem (het, tet, alef) so even if the English translations are different, the meaning can always be drawn back to the base "to miss".
      God bless brother!

      John Do well what if you’ve yet to find your destiny? Or you thought you had found it but it was lost, not of your own accord?? Is that to sin ? A lot of people have wandered this Earth and are still good souls? If everyone always found their destiny right away, without family/social/ or religious guidance & let’s not forget the role of $$-then things in life would be far too easy & I don’t believe it is a Sin to not yet know our destiny
      Destiny can change in the blink of an eye.
      Just a thought about your quote ✌🏻❤️🇨🇦

      Jesus is the goal that we strive for. To sin is to miss the goal or mark which is to not be following Christ anymore. Anything outside of God is sin, (as the video stated) even when we sin against another human being we have missed God.

      If the egyptian art is a wheat above his head or corn It makes me think of jesus and the phrase that he said his body the bread and water is his blood. Then black incarnations have the fruit bowls on their head and the other egyptian guy horus has like a turkey on his head one has. So maybe our time loop is dependent on us eating turkey or perhaps that was were the phrase we sinned against our brothers comes from. That makes me think that my brothers are genetically engineered from my dna and I dont trust doctors much I think musical children occurs in hospitals. Is that why the torah believers were opposed to transgressions or sins upon the fruits of evils like the creation of cows and pigs which would be explainable paranoias if we were de-evolved into animals in the futures or why ants come out when it rains like snails and slugs appear from as if nowhere. Or how the phrase its raining cats and dogs or cities with giant rat infestations. Then other legends say how foxs and racoons can change form like werewolves. I ask that my trespasses are forgiven because I still eat pork and I am not vegan. I think tree and plant futures are worse that animal kingdoms. what are the 5 kingdoms again. Of course Im just a crazy person that doctors hold down and inject with stuff unknown to me. But what will come AFTER DEATH? Maybe thats why time is AD> and Before Conception? Is it a wonderful life now in exchange for lose of time in all our past trespasses? Why do they say you are what you eat? Is the world really a vampire? I felt like I have died at least once before imagine if cats really do have 9 lives are they all human or cat? Reincarnation sure confuses me to. Have you every heard the authors voice when you read a book? When I read odyssey I heard a french voice telling me THIS IS WHERE THE ACTION IS. Anywords on where Byzantium is? Is that earth 3 years in the future why are there pyramids on all the planets. Are the planets reflections of earth why do spanish name the days like domingo lunes...etc is its sun moon mars mercury venus jupiter saturnday - is saturn like a mirror earth? Why do fish tanks have a mirror like effect when you look thru them at the corner. That mirror is like a PIT OF LIONS right the tristar formation the delta symbol 4th dimension perhaps is that. WHY DOES THE MOONS REFLECTION NOT ROTATE. is the image I see on the moon the map of the earth. openInvent.club

      Nope. We’re free from the CONSEQUENCE of sin (eternal death/damnation) not from “sinning” it self. Stop twisting scripture to convince yourself you don’t have a sinful nature.

    I was taught that the word “Khata” is translated 51 times as “missing the mark” and 305 times is translated as “sin offering”
    In Hebrew the translation is not “either or” but BOTH. Cain was given 2 options… #1 Sin crouching at the door OR #2 give a Sin Offering that would be accepted. We know which one he chose.
