Ah Divergent... I have such a love/hate relationship with that series Totally agree that The Selection is a guilty pleasure read! I loved the delirium series! I heard mixed reviews about it too but I’m so glad I gave it a chance
I really like Dystopian books. I think I’m an odd one! I think it started when I read The Giver by Lois Lowry shortly after it came out. It was such an intense book, but beautiful. I like the Hunger Games series, even the last one. It’s so good. Definitely agree on Divergent. The last book is terrible.
Ruby's Nails I think the giver was the first dystopian I ever read...in like the sixth grade or something. Way before I ever heard the term ‘dystopian’. I re-read it recently and while it doesn’t have the same impact as it did for 12 year old me, it was such a nostalgic experience.
With Divergent I really liked the first two books. The third book was a bit of a disappointment, I'll admit but I still have fond feelings for first two books, especially because the Divergent is was kick started my love for reading.
I really liked this video but I feel that every dystopian recommendation video is the same I have watched do manny and they all nearly had the same books
I'm a year late on this video Haha but dystopian is probably my favorite genre! I just read Scythe and I am about to pick up Thunderhead. I was surprised to not see The Darkest Minds make this list. It is probably my favorite of those ones that all came out around the same time
@@Bookables understandable! It is about rather young kids and came out in 2012! I was just super late to the party of finding it (and watching this video oops)
so i have only read one book of the selection series, i want to read more, and i love the covers. I love hunger games of course and i recently re watched the first two. I have only read the first divergent book too, although i've seen both the films. need to read scythe
Ohmygosh The Maze Runner series makes me so annoyed because it had a lot of potential but it was totally wasted. The movies are awesome though and I encourage you to give them a shot because they changed a lot from the books! I love the Legend trilogy and I definitely think it counts as dystopian! The best dystopian series finale is definitely from the Unwind series by Neal Shusterman so you should get on that! :)
Some lesser known dystopia I also really enjoyed!: The Jewel by Amy Ewing My Chemical Garden trilogy by Lauren DeStefano Feed my M.T. Anderson Hungry by H.A. Swain
I'm reading The Feed by Nick Clark Windo. It's a dystonia/sci-fi book. The Feed is a digital implant. Sort of like a digital reality world. All of your thoughts, memories and your life is on the feed, until it goes down. I've only just started reading it but it's good so far
How did you not like the one? It was the best one. And America is suppose to be stubborn and kinda back and forth. I’m a major selection fan, so I’m very defensive of if. 😂
I just finished The Lunar Chronicles and I literally do t know what to read next to follow up. I’m so attached to the series and I have no idea what to read now.
The legend series is my all time favourite!! It's so good. I just finished reading it. The maze runner movies are really good too. I didn't read the books, but I loved the movies a lot!! The darkest minds is incredible, it's one of the first dystopian novels I ever read. Incredible series :). Slated was awesome as well. Original and unique, I would recommend.
I remember really liking Shade's Children by Garth Nyx as a teenager, but I have no idea if it was actually any good! I also remember reading the Pretties series by Scott Westerfeld, but although I think it was good, it wasn't my cup of tea.
I have to read Scythe and Thunderhead! The Selection series is definitely a guilty pleasure! I love The Hunger Games. My fave dystopian series is The Forest of Hands and Teeth but if you scare easily...you might want to skip it. After reading the first book I, like, literally stared around the room thinking "what did I just read?" Should have told Carrie Ryan that when she signed my book! lol
The dystopian novel that started it for me was waayyyyy back in the 7th grade when we read The Giver. Or it may be more sci-fi, but that book opened up that works to me and it has stuck with me since. I feel the same way about the Delirium series, Pandemonium is my favorite and hated the ending. I felt cheated :( i was obsessed with dystopian for a while back when it was popular and even purchased a bunch of dystopian books that I accent even read... Scythe and Thunderhead are in my list, though!
You should check out the Unwind series by Neal Shusterman. I enjoy that series almost as much as his Scythe series. I also remember enjoying Veronica Rossi’s Under the Never Sky series, which has some dystopian aspects, although maybe it was more post-apocalyptic...it’s been awhile so the details are fuzzy.
same goes for my love for twilight series.. it got me in real serious reading.. and I loved it.. I loved it so so much.. oh god.. I wanted a vampire lover..😂😂😂 but now I just find it too cheesy.. and I got rid of it.. so I totally get you.. 😁😁
Divergent wasn’t good of a read, and the Legend series is a Dystopian book. One of my favorite dystopian books is the Darkest Minds. They’re even making a movie out of it too.
I find that I like dystopians when in reading them. But later when I look back on them they're just "meh" for me. Although I have to say I am really excited for Scythe!
Hahahaha... I loved Divergent (hated Four, though 😂), the first book. The second meh... The third I wanted to rip the pages of the book. 😂 Worst ending ever!!!!!! And I also only saw the first movie. Kkkkkkk The Maze Runner only read and saw the first one. I read a novella and got to the middle of the second book, but I DNF. The Selection. I tried. Finished the first one, but never tried the others. Delirium I stopped on the first. I really liked it, but I don’t know why I stopped and never get back to it. I still have to read any of Marie Lu books besides Warcross. 🤷🏻♀️ So... Hunger Games will always be my favorite!
Meryl Rees I don't disagree it states that. But, I honestly wouldn't class it as a dystopian either (even though it's branded that way). Haven't read the sequel as it's not released here yet, but from just the first instalment; not a dystopian society in my eyes. Just my opinion though. :-)
Have you read the Matched trilogy? I feel the same way about Divergent. I like to just pretend the other 2 don't exist. The third one had me going like "what the hell was the point?". And just out of curiosity, did you know that James Dashner was dropped by his publisher because it came out that he has been sexually harassing women in the publishing industry?! www.theguardian.com/books/2018/feb/16/maze-runner-author-james-dashner-dropped-by-us-publisher-amid-harassment-claims
I know you don't enjoy dystopian as much- but the one critique I have gotten about this author is it's not like your standard dystopian. It's very different and unexpected. www.rlclaytonbooks.com-He started with evolution fantasy and ended up moving in the direction-ten years or more ago before dystopian was even a thing. Many of the premises have come to pass-check out the video on his website.
Ah Divergent... I have such a love/hate relationship with that series
Totally agree that The Selection is a guilty pleasure read!
I loved the delirium series! I heard mixed reviews about it too but I’m so glad I gave it a chance
yes!! i love the delirium trio!!
I read All Rights Reserved by Gregory Scott Katsoulis last year. I thought it was really good!
Ruby's Nails I think the giver was the first dystopian I ever read...in like the sixth grade or something. Way before I ever heard the term ‘dystopian’. I re-read it recently and while it doesn’t have the same impact as it did for 12 year old me, it was such a nostalgic experience.
I love dystopian too. I tend to need a break from them.
I enjoy it as well but not as much anymore! I think I read to many of them way back in the day and now I can only read a few here and there lol
I love The Giver so much.
Okay that's it! I'm going out and getting Scythe! I've been debating on whether or not to get it but I've made up my mind. Lol! It sounds so good!
yes!! it's so good!!
My Favorite YA dystopian series are The Testing series by Joelle Charbonneau. I also really enjoyed The Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld.
Amanda McIndoo the testing is such a great series
I agree! And no one ever talks about it!!!
awesome!
I enjoyed Uglies as well! So much that I may re-read it again as it's been a few years haha
The Selection series is my favorite!💕
glad you enjoy it!
I would highly recommend the Darkest Minds series!
Ive read it
I loved the Legend series by Marie Lu. They were so well written.
yes! agreed!
With Divergent I really liked the first two books. The third book was a bit of a disappointment, I'll admit but I still have fond feelings for first two books, especially because the Divergent is was kick started my love for reading.
same here!
Divergent and hunger games and the selection are probably my favorites
enjoy them all!
The hunger games is still my favorite dystopian series ever
yes!!!
I really liked this video but I feel that every dystopian recommendation video is the same I have watched do manny and they all nearly had the same books
I understand completely
YES I see the Lunar Chronicles in the background!!!!!!
I'm a year late on this video Haha but dystopian is probably my favorite genre! I just read Scythe and I am about to pick up Thunderhead. I was surprised to not see The Darkest Minds make this list. It is probably my favorite of those ones that all came out around the same time
I loved darkest minds when I first read it but now ive kind of fallen out of love with it
@@Bookables understandable! It is about rather young kids and came out in 2012! I was just super late to the party of finding it (and watching this video oops)

I really need to hop on to this Scythe series. Everybody is raving about them! Great video and love the recommendations!
please do!!!
Watch the Maze Runner movies. They're really quite good.
hmmm maybe lol
Ugh I hated the second movie it wasnt even close to looking anything like the book
You should try reading Six of Crows Duology! It's a masterpiece♡
i have!
I don't think the hunger games started the genre of dystopian books!
(I'm not hating or being rude, I'm saying my opinion!)
I understand! I think it made the genre more popular for sure!
Not a huge dystopian fan but kind if curious about Scythe and put it on my library wishlist to try soon.
Please check it out!
Also yass, I'm reading thunderhead now and I'm so glad i bought into the booktube hype at the beginning of this year! Scythe was a 5* read for me
yes!! hope you love thunderhead as well!!
i finished thunderhead last night and omg, that book has destroyed me!!! i can't believe we have to wait ~1 year for the next book to come out!
i need to read legend trilogy as well as war cross so many many books sigh.....
and so litte time! I feel you!
I loved Mocking Jay and its my favorite.
awesome!!!
Some lesser known dystopia I also really enjoyed!:
The Jewel by Amy Ewing
My Chemical Garden trilogy by Lauren DeStefano
Feed my M.T. Anderson
Hungry by H.A. Swain
thanks for the recs!
Thanks for the recommendations. Haven't heard of any and have put them all on hold from the public library ^_^
I'm reading The Feed by Nick Clark Windo. It's a dystonia/sci-fi book. The Feed is a digital implant. Sort of like a digital reality world. All of your thoughts, memories and your life is on the feed, until it goes down. I've only just started reading it but it's good so far
awesome!
loved the delirium trilogy!! and maze runner was one of my favorites also... fell in love with the books and quickly fell in love with the movies!
yesss
How did you not like the one? It was the best one. And America is suppose to be stubborn and kinda back and forth. I’m a major selection fan, so I’m very defensive of if. 😂
ha I just really disilke the character America
Bookables, she is a very easy character to dislike.
nothing to do with books but gurl, your hair is FABULOUS in this video. love the shorter cut and wave
aw thanks so much!
I just re read the first hunger games book for the third time. I liked mockingjay also. Catching fire is definitely an amazing sequel.
Agreed!!
I just bought Scythe and I'm so excited to read it :)
Hope you enjoy it!!
Any recommendations for someone who loves the legend series? Finishing the fourth book right now and trying to find a another series to start.
hmm great question!
I just finished The Lunar Chronicles and I literally do t know what to read next to follow up. I’m so attached to the series and I have no idea what to read now.
hmm you can read her new series renegades
The legend series is my all time favourite!! It's so good. I just finished reading it. The maze runner movies are really good too. I didn't read the books, but I loved the movies a lot!! I tried to read the pretty series as well and could not get into it!!
I have to read Scythe and Thunderhead! The Selection series is definitely a guilty pleasure! I love The Hunger Games. My fave dystopian series is The Forest of Hands and Teeth but if you scare easily...you might want to skip it. After reading the first book I, like, literally stared around the room thinking "what did I just read?" Should have told Carrie Ryan that when she signed my book! lol
ive read that book and loved it as well!
I'm trying to choose between reading scythe, illuminae and the cruel prince😥
so hard!! hmmmm I'd say scythe!
I love the scythe books!
me as well!
The dystopian novel that started it for me was waayyyyy back in the 7th grade when we read The Giver. I also remember enjoying Veronica Rossi’s Under the Never Sky series, which has some dystopian aspects, although maybe it was more post-apocalyptic...it’s been awhile so the details are fuzzy.
Desiree McLaughlin yeessssss! The unwinds are soooooooooo good!
Leslie Hitchcock totally agree. I know they aren’t super recent releases, but they deserve way more hype than they get. :)
I really want to read all of his books now!!!
How can you put Divergent higher tham the Hunger Games? :(
Oh nevermind you didn't rank them. Sorry 😅
lol no worries
same goes for my love for twilight series.. it got me in real serious reading.. and I loved it.. I loved it so so much.. oh god.. I wanted a vampire lover..😂😂😂 but now I just find it too cheesy.. and I got rid of it.. so I totally get you.. 😁😁
I feel the same way about twilight now!
Divergent wasn’t good of a read, and the Legend series is a Dystopian book. One of my favorite dystopian books is the Darkest Minds. They’re even making a movie out of it too.
I would have recommended that but I never finished the third book....lol
I still need to read The Selection. I DNF'd the first book midway through, so I'm questioning whether or not I should read it through.
ha i wouldnt worry about it! like I said guilty pleasure read, your not going to get a ton out of it and your going to hate the main character
Have you given The Bone Season a go? Its overtaken Hunger Games for me and i love it :)
I havent! I def want to!
I loved the 1st and 2nd book in the maze runner, but the third one🤔🤔🤔I felt like the third book didn't give me enough closure
the third book was a hot mess!!
i couldn't even finish the third one it was too depressing, but i saw the films first so i KNEW what was gonna happen..
I find that I like dystopians when in reading them. But later when I look back on them they're just "meh" for me. Although I have to say I am really excited for Scythe!
I hope you enjoy it whenver you do read it!!
Red rising trilogy by pierce brown was soooo goood!!!! I don’t know how more people r taking about it. I’m still wait for it to be a movie
Ive heard amazing things about that series!
Hahahaha... I loved Divergent (hated Four, though 😂), the first book. The second meh... The third I wanted to rip the pages of the book. 😂 Worst ending ever!!!!!! And I also only saw the first movie. Kkkkkkk

The Selection. I tried. Finished the first one, but never tried the others.
Delirium I stopped on the first. I really liked it, but I don’t know why I stopped and never get back to it.
I still have to read any of Marie Lu books besides Warcross. 🤷🏻♀️
So... Hunger Games will always be my favorite!
ha I understand your feelings on all of these!!
Scythe is utopian. Civilization has reached its Zen. :-)
Meryl Rees I don't disagree it states that. But, I honestly wouldn't class it as a dystopian either (even though it's branded that way).
Haven't read the sequel as it's not released here yet, but from just the first instalment; not a dystopian society in my eyes.

I believe that, I've heard some really horrible things about him
I love the maze runner series!!!!!
me as well!
I recently bought Scythe, I managed to snag a signed copy, so hopefully I love it as much as you did.
yes I hope so as well!
You look really beautifuuul!!!!!
thanks so much!
