    I totally forgot about Ella Enchanted! And it still blows my mind that ACOTAR was loosely based on Beauty & the Beast, I didn’t get that from the book when I read it. But I did LOVE the book. And I didn’t know To Kill a Kingdom or Seawitch were retellings either! Lunar Chronicles and Heartless are absolutely my favorite.

    The splintered series by A.G Howard is amazing. It’s an Alice in wonderland retelling/reimagining. It’s so good. I also read a Peter Pan one that I just loved. It’s from hooks POV. It’s called never never by Brianna R Shrum. I’m pretty sure I’ve read more that I like, those are just the ones I can think of. Also, I read Ella Enchanted when I was in the 7th grade I think. It was one of the first books, after Harry Potter that I feel in love with. Actouly I walked to the public library after school and checked it out. I remember because my dad found me sitting on the corner of the library reading it because I didn’t have a card. He grounded me for not coming straight home after school but got me a library card so I could take it home and read it. That was the only time I was ever grounded. He said he partly happy and mad. Mad because I went somewhere when I was told I couldn’t but happy because just the year before I couldn’t read. Which is why he let me take the book home. He said he would never punish me for loving to read because he was so happy that I could. Lol. I have adhd and dyslexia so it hadn’t come easy to me. Sorry for the long comment! Lol.

    If you want some adult fairytale retellings Juliet marillier has hearts blood (beauty and the beast) and daughter of the forest (wild swans aka the six swans). Uprooted by Naomi novik. Kiss of the spindle by Nancy Allen Campbell which is a steampunk retelling of sleeping beauty. Also beauty and the clockwork beast by the same author.

    Quick suggestion: an interesting retelling of sorts is The Changelling by Victor Lavalle. I didn't love it, but I liked it. It's a trip with wild and weird moments that bring in elements of horror. Definitely keeps you on your toes. Anyways, I'm super interested in those Ursala retellings. Thanks for the video!

  • @Kellas_Kat
    @Kellas_Kat 6 лет назад

    I interpreted ACOTAR as a retelling of the myth of Cupid and Psyche, and ACOMAF as a little bit Hades and Persephone. However, my favorite retelling is Heart's Blood by Juliet Marillier, which reads like a somewhat dark, kind of Grimm fairytale version of Beauty and Beast, where the heroine has more agency in the plot.

    Its been a really big year for The Little Mermaid retellings in YA, there seems to be so many right now. I just read The Surface Breaks by Louise O'Neill which is another one retelling this story and it was really good, quite a short one so a quicker read and sticks quite closely to the story as we know it but it has a great twist and focus on women's rights in it which made it interesting. I'd recommend it.
