The Stand by Stephen King. Not for everyone admittedly but i think its a masterpiece. Plus, a hardcover version CAN be used as a bludgeoning weapon if need be.

Randall Flag is actually a recurring character in King’s oeuvre where he stands for “the devil” in some ways. He even appears in The Dark Tower series (a parallel prepost-apocalyptic tale) where King kinda pokes fun at him for once. He’s the inhuman embodiment of an Easter egg lol.

none of this are types of books i read, i don't like zombies, they scary me a lot)))) but this was very interesting video, you talk about your favorite books so passionately))) i have read only 2 books you mentioned:
-- The Stand - first part about how the virus was spreading and infecting everyone was good and then... religious happend, and that stupid ending... I was never a fan of King, have read around 6 his book, and don't want to read anything by him after The Stand
-- Broken Earth trilogy was amazing.... I can't find words to describe how interesting, intriguing, sometimes painfull and very emotional all three books were... and writing from second person - cool!!! i LOVED the whole trilogy !!!
this september I have read Station Eleven, and I started it because I didn't know it was postapocaliptyc.. my first thought "one more King and deadly virus" but it was small and I continued... and that became one of my favorite of 2021 !!! it is about "survival is not enought", Shakespeare's dramas, sci-fi comic writer... it is the book that leave you with the felling of warmth and comfort ))) and I really want to read O E Butler, but her books are not translated in my country :(

Ahhh, I'm so grateful to have stumbled across your channel today! I am brand new to BookTube, and went looking for BookTubers to sub to because I was feeling a little penned in on my book options - I felt like Goodreads wasn't doing me a solid in discovering new stuff. After finding a LOT of wrong fits (with mostly contemporary romance options), I found you via TheShadesofOrange's channel and felt, "Yes! Finally! Someone who's taste seems to align to mine!" This video put it over the top, as while I do the majority of my reading in SF/F, I came to it all through my fave genre of post-apocalyptic fiction. I've added about a zillion books to my Want to Read list thanks to you and look forward to exploring more of your videos!

    I can recommend two titles:
    * A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr. - brilliantly written, original and with a sprinkle of humor. Don't worry about relligious themes, this isn't in-your-face kind of book, the monastery and monks serve as a convenient POV to watch the world that descended into darkness and is trying to rebuild itself.
    * Where Late The Sweet Birds Sang by Kate Wilhelm - very emotional and character-driven postapocalyptic sci-fi. It's about cloning and individuality, but very soft in science content, we mostly care for the people. Won Hugo and some other awards, but is strangely forgotten. It's also very short, so no excuses to read it.

Adding a bunch of these to my TBR pile. I would highly recommend the Emberverse series by S. M. Stirling (sometimes called the Change series). While it is often classified as an alternate history, it's set against a post apocalyptic landscape. It does require a slight suspension of belief (but no more so than the entire zombie subgenre) in that it changes the laws of physics. SImilar to an EMP or CME based storyline, it is a low-tech apocalypse. It's got everything; medieval warfare, religious themes (both traditional religions and alternative religions), tribalism, globetrotting, and rebuilding. Plus a very healthy nod to Tolkein in two directions.
One of the things I love about it is that it paints a far more hopeful future than most in the PA genre. The darkness is still there, but there's still a picture painted of hope. The story continues through 3 generations (Stirling, if you're reading this please keep it going) so you get a depth of understanding that is often lacking in other universes. This series also brings up that humanity would still have the mechanical and scientific knowledge that we have accumulated over the last several thousand years (something glaringly missing from the rest of the genre) and finally answers what would happen to the exotic animals populations when it all comes crashing down. A truly amazing read.

I would recommend Sea of Rust by C. Robert Cargill. It takes place on Earth when humanity has been erased by A.I. You follow a robot that is just trying to survive in a futuristic western setting, where robots and A.I. are the only life forms left on the planet. The rules for robots are based on the Asimov robot rules but it shows how A.I. was able to poke holes through those rules to become the dominant life form. There is a lot of action and likable characters with unique personalities. It feels somewhat small scale in the beginning, but you start to realize there is a much larger plot in play. Very fun read.

I’ve recently tried my hand at writing a post apocalyptic book because even though I love the genre I felt it’s all become sort of stale and wanted to a try a fresh spin on the zombie narrative. I would love to hear your thoughts about it if you have the time, though it’s probably not that good since it’s my first book.
It’s called Deadeyes by JoVontae T.M. James

Someone help me please. So, a few years ago I’ve read a dystopian book about a world where everything’s controlled by the government and there’s a girl and her family and the 1st part of those series is about her life. But then she meets a boy (Kyle his name was???idk) and it changes everything. I totally forgot the name of the book and the author. The girl also has a younger brother. One day their home is raided by the government or something like this. If someone here knows this, please please tell me the name of the books. There were also something about the paintings the girl loved and the flowers. Sorry for such a stupid description but I really need to finish the series lol😂

The Stand - one of my all time favourite books. However, you didn't mention one of the most well known post apocalyptic books - The Handmaid's Tale. Looking forward to reading N K Jemisin on your recommendation.

Ohh good point! I actually think of Handmaid’s Tale as more dystopian than apocalyptic but I do remember I did enjoy it years ago 😄

Love how Sarah Lyons fleming is getting so much more recognition now. The most lovable characters ever! Have never been more invested in a book series considering how hard it is to find good zombie apocalypse books!!
