I have the MK4 for over a year now. Use it several times a day, almost every day. It is my only grinder. Most of the time Espresso, rarely filter.
    I love it.
The plastic cup still looks pristine, don‘t worry about it.
Retention inside the chamber is almost zero. All gets stuck on the outer side, which can be easily brushed. So a brush would indeed be a great add-on.
So I will focus on the negative aspects:
    1. it is hard to get a grip if you have small hands.
    2. If you brew Espresso, buying the optional „Red Clix“ is a must. I wonder why it is not standard
    3. there is no numeric marker. So if you frequently shift from one coffee to another, you might get confused on the current settings. I almost never go all the way to zero, but simply try to remember „this one uses 3 clicks less / more than the other coffee.“ you must remember your last cup.
Last but not least, if you prepare Espresso for more than yourself, consider an electric grinder. My worst nightmare is when I have > 3 guests and they all wish a coffee. Now I am browsing for an electric one.
Note: it is tempting to attach an electric screwdriver to your Comandante. The high speed makes the beans pop (they don’t go properly through ) and you feel like your beloved grinder will go bust. This is not an option…

    Things We Missed:
    1. The price of the MK4 is around £220 in the UK, $ 350 in the US and ₹22,500 in India.
    2. A few people have mentioned this is the comments already and we forgot add this to our 'Wishlist'. It would be great to have a better way to track clicks and avoid having to go back to zero so often.
    3. The MK4 comes with a nice vegan felt pad to keep the grinder on and you also get a rubber grip band.

    Week 3 with the MK4.
First 2 weeks was ok but not mind blowing. Coffee was only somewhat better than what I was used to.
Then the bag of coffee, which was kind of mediocre, ran out and I opened a new bag of an old favourite.
That first taste stopped me in my morning shuffle across the kitchen. I said words that violate one of the commandments.
It was so much better than what I was used to from that particular coffee, that it was hard to believe it was the same one.
So, beside being damned to hell for eternity because of the commandment thing, I'm very happy with my purchase.

It's really easy to get back to zero point by holding the adjuster and rotating the crank. Also, I'm surprised how no-one highlights the fact that adding 2-3 fewer beans e.g. 17.6g rather than 18g is an easy option for dialling in espresso without further investment in the red clix upgrade.

    • @aramse

For pour over we'd pick the Comandante over the J-Max. The burrs on the C40 will give you a lot more nuance and clarity in the cup. The J-Max is an excellent all-rounder that really excels at espresso and the workflow it offers it pretty unmatched.

Comandante = more clarity, slightly less body
J-Max = sweetness, texture and less clarity
So depends on preference tbh. If you like darker roasts you may prefer the body you get from the J-Max, which works well with dairy too. If you're brewing more medium and lighter roasts and you're looking for clarity and flavour separation the Comandante for sure.

Maybe its good for filter or pour over , but that grinder is absolutly not in the same range as the jx-pro for espresso . First in my opinion, the burr are way to smalls so it take like 5x the time to grind a shot . Than the red clix ... that thing give you 15 microns adjustement , so let say about 8-10 seconds of extration time at 9bars per clic ???? When the jx-pro is at 12 microns per clic and the jx-max at 8 micron per clic ... so basicly i paid around 450$ CAD for a grinder that doesnt do anyware as close as my 170$ jx-pro does ???? @@The_Coffee_Rabbit_Hole hey there, we're sorry you've had a bad experience but we clearly mention the Comandante is very slow at 6:57. We even mention this in our review of the J-Max. But we still stand by the fact that shot for shot the C40 will give you more clarity and nuance in the cup than the JX Pro. That's not to say it's better as taste is subjective and there are several that prefer the cup profile of the JX. Hype only lasts for a short period of time but this grinder has been considered the gold standard for hand grinders all over the world for many years now. That being said, we hope you're able to return it and pick up something better suited to your espresso workflow. It's such a popular grinder that you should be able to sell it for near full price even if you're unable to return it.

Hey Elliot thanks for the feedback and you're right we missed the price and will be adding it to the pinned comment shortly. As for the taste test we did several for a lot of our other videos including the recent J-Max review. The MK4, however is an incremental upgrade, that has the same burrs as the 3 so it felt a bit redundant to do taste tests on this one considering how many MK3 reviews there are on RUclips already. Why would you buy MK4 when K-plus is 100$ cheaper, much easier / faster to grind, produces less fines (more consistent) and has unique burr that adds delicate touch of acidity that MK4 does not. My brother runs a specialty coffee cafe in Subang Jaya and he rarely uses his MK4. This is something to ponder before you proceed to buy MK4.

It's the other way around for me in Germany, though. I'm pondering exactly that choice. Comandante is $50 cheaper than K-Plus. I can get Comandante either locally in a store or with ~1 day shipping, while 1zpresso is only available from abroad with unknown shipping time (est. 6-9 days) and likelihood of import charges, making it even more expensive.
