I agree. check the load capacity of the forklift first and the weight of your load. Just to be sure it's safe. There is a plaquet on the forklift with all the numbers about loading capacitiy. I would lift the load a bit and drive the truck backwards under the load. It's much safer. Keep the load always as close as possible to your forklift while lifting.
Forklikft capacity is often stated as a weight, but it is actually a torque or moment. The convention would be something like 4,000 pounds at 2 feet from face of forks. If the center of mass of the load is 4 feet out, that goes to 2000 pounds. If you're lifting a standard 4 foot long pallet, your 4000 pound lift will handle a 4000 pound pallet. When you start handling stuff that's longer than that, or for some reason you have to lift it farther out, you have to take that into account. If you're close to maximum capacity, tilting forward is a bad idea.
if you must, then use both forklifts, one either side of the load, pick it up and then reverse the vehicle under it.
