    YARN USED: Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in 410 Soft Fudge. Check it out here: bit.ly/3hN6sJ7
    The Double Woven Rib is a textured stitch pattern that looks slightly woven. Though it looks complex, this stitch is just a two-row repeat.
    The woven rib texture is created by slipping two stitches with the yarn in front. The rest of the stitches are just knits or purls, making Double Woven Rib a great pattern for beginners.
    This stitch tends to curl so it needs a border (like garter stitch) to keep it lying flat. The reverse of Double Woven Rib mimics a rib stitch and is also quite handsome.

    Love this. Thank you. I have been working on double stockinette which is similar in slipping a stitch but this is much prettier and with the 2 slip stitches much easier to see if something has gone wrong and need to put right

    What a great tutorial, Double Woven Rib I should be able to do this I would like to try this for a cushion cover. Im a beginner when you talk about adding the boarder so it doesn't curl up makes sense, but how do I get the boarder onto this double rib, sorry Im a little confused on how to do this as a beginner I would love to try this out as a cushion cover. any help understanding how to do this is appreciated

      If you’re using this stitch for a cushion cover then you probably don’t need to add a border. Because you’ll end up seaming the edges, the edges won’t have a chance to curl. Hope that makes sense!
      If you want to add a border like garter stitch to prevent curling, cast on an extra 6 sts. Knit a few rows in garter stitch. Then knit the first 3 sts in garter stitch. Knit double woven rib to the last 3 sts, and knit the last 3 sts in garter stitch. And repeat. Basically keep the first and last 3 sts in garter stitch. Once you’ve knit to the length you like, knit all the sts in garter stitch for a few rows to complete the border.
      This creates a 3 stitch border on either side of the knitting. You can add 4 sts to the knitting to create a 2 stitch border on either side, or add 8 sts for a 4 st border. Borders can be customised to your liking. Good luck!

      @@sheepandstitch thank you so much! Yes this makes sense now I wasn’t quite sure how to do that but absolutely makes sense now, I will give it a try. I just finished my second scarf in 2x2 rib stitch I’m really happy with it now to try something else whilst it’s still winter here in oz. Thank you, I’ve been using your amazing tutorials to learn all these stitches 💙

    Will it still curl if you use the stitch to make a bigger project like a blanket? Or would garter border still be needed? I’m a beginner and am loving these videos. I find it much easier to learn from RUclips.

      Not necessarily garter border but a border in general?

    • @sheepandstitch
      @sheepandstitch  2 года назад +2

      Yes even with a larger project you’ll need to knit a border around it that lays flat. It doesn’t need to be garter stitch, but it should be a stitch that lays flat, like rib stitch, seed stitch, moss stitch or any other stitch. Good luck!

    I just started doing this stitch, after following a few of your tutorials, but I don’t know how to add the garter stitch border, as I haven’t found a tutorial for it. How do I add it after finishing the project?

      Hi Maria, unfortunately the border needs to be added as you knit the piece. It cant really be applied afterwards. Basically, cast on an extra 6 stitches and knit 5 or 6 rows in garter stitch. Then for every row going forwards, knit the first and last 3 stitches in garter stitch. The rest of the stitches are knit in the stitch pattern of your choosing. When the knitting is the length you like, knit 5 or 6 rows in hater stitch to seal off the border. Hope that makes sense!

      Ooo don’t do it after. Pick up and knit is a pain… decide what what stitch you want for your edges add the count of stitches you want your edges to be so for example 8 stitch border each side would be an additional 16 stitches and use a mm marker after the first 8 to remind you they are your edging stitches. I bought little plastic pins

    This looks awesome 🤩 but I have questions! I’m knitting a square 50 stitches long but I want a border like the one in your example project. How many garter stitches would I need? I’m guessing I can cast on, knit 4 rows, then for the next 40 rows I do k5 before and after the steps you have in the video, then end with 4 more knit rows and cast off? Does that sound right, or am I completely off? (TIA)
