I agree. The Yankees 1999 championship team on paper was the best of the Torre dynasty era. Once Roger Clemens joined their rotation, they were pretty much in God mode. With Clemens joining David Cone, Andy Pettitte and El Duque, their starting pitching was unbeatable. Then their starting lineup was bulletproof with Chuck Knoblauch, the great Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Tino Martinez, Paul O’Neill, Scott Brosius, Jorge Posada and Chili Davis. Their bench had firepower with Ricky Ledee, Shane Spencer, Jim Leyritz and Chad Curtis. And their bullpen was overwhelming with Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera, Ramiro Mendoza, Mike Stanton and Jeff Nelson. They were so good it was scary. Nobody could touch that team.

I respect Bobby Cox greatly as a manager for the way he would always stick up for his players and inspire such fierce loyalty from them. That being said, he made some idiotic post-season decisions at times, and leaving Glavine in for the 8th in Game 3 tops that list. He had given them exactly what they needed--7 solid innings--after having been sick, they were on the verge of getting back into the series, they had a solid bullpen--hell, they could have asked Rocker to pitch 2 innings if necessary. Once that game was tied up, they had missed their shot and you knew it was just a matter of time. But if Glavine had been taken out when he should have been (even having said himself he was really starting to get tired before that inning and it was not a sure thing that he even felt like he should continue) they very well might have turned this series around. In a situation like that, if it's even a question, you need to remove the starter. Actually, Maddux was also left in too long in Game 1, though that wasn't quite as egregious as leaving Glavine in in Game 3.
Chris Kreager the Padres had nothing to lose. They were no match for the Yankees of '98, one of the greatest all-time teams ever, so just having some close games was a victory for them. This Braves team was far better than the '98 Padres, and the '99 Yankees weren't as good as the '98 squad. This series was more evenly matched at the start but the Braves were already reeling a bit from the NLCS after having the Mets come back from an 0-3 deficit to nearly force a Game 7. That took some wind out of their sails, and then they also doomed by some poor decisions in the two games in this series that were very winnable for them--Games 1 and 3--when their starters were left in too long in both games and coughed up 8th inning leads when they clearly had nothing left and should have been removed either after the 7th or at the very least once a runner got on in the 8th. Even if they weren't tiring (which they clearly were), a team as good as the Yankees is going to make adjustments by that point in the game. They had a really good bullpen that year, no reason why the shouldn't have used it. They never had much of a chance in Games 2 and 4, but 1 and 3 were a different story and with a couple of wiser decisions this series may have been 2-2 after 4 games.

@@jordanschwarzlose9218 Lol, no and the last one? Tons of oofs to be had recently. Also the Cubs? Really?
I couldn't believe that Guillen screwed that up.
So why did the Yankees cut Clay Bellinger' from the team in 2001? He could 'hit' but he was no Don Mattingly...and i thought he could field as well,,,like Derek Jeter....but i guess not....SO that's why they released him...due to his fielding. Oh well, his 24 yr old phenom Cody Bellinger will be holding a World Series trophy in a matter of weeks.
The guy was a good luck charm.
Fucked up how a guy who claims he's a servant of god, hits the game winning homerun in Game 3 of the 1999 World Series could 14 years later be sentenced to 7 years in a Michigan prison for fucking 2 15 year old students at the school where he worked. Talk about your highs and lows. Damn. Dude still made me jump out of my seat that night.
There were 4 girls apparently. He was only charged and convicted related to his actions against 3 of them. The facts of the case are pretty f'n sick. And his arrogance after his conviction even sicker.
EDIT: Of course that night we cheered. We didn't know what would happen years later.
@@TRivera13 You are absolutely right. Sick shit. He even tried to blame the teenage girls saying they came on to him. Smh.
@@matthewstorer6923 Honestly. That kind of shit turned me off from seeking a career in law enforcement. It would be too hard to resist beating the living hell out of rapists and molesters.
Minor correction: Raping, not fucking.
THATS RIGHT IM FROM THE BRONX ,,IS TEAM OF THE CENTURY
The year 2000 was the final year of the 20th century. The year 2001 was the first year of the 21st century.
I was born in the 21st century too 2001
The real team of the 90s the Yankees vs the fake team of the 90s the Braves
Oh yea, they won in 2000 too
Let’s go Yankees!!!!
Who’s the narrator for this?
I believe it's Alec Baldwin

you know the yankees are better when other teams also have themesongs .yeah god bless america hey kate .gige america spice thyme lol song lol
Tom Glavine: we still had more wins than anyone in the 90s. Yeah and the Yankees won more games than anyone in the 80s. Means nothing jack
I have the yankees in my blood 💙NY💙
Huh?
Meet the Mets lmao
Chad Curtis: I'd rather be a good person. I think he is in prison right now.
It didn’t age well for him!

That rangers team was all juiced up. Palmeroids. Haha
go yanks they are they best woohoo
Without Steinbrenner, the Yanks have wandered into the desert and lost their way. This organization had greatness from the 1920s through 2009.

This was back when this team gave a crap about winning..this franchise sucks now..I am so disappointed in what this franchise has become..especially lately...garbage attracts garbage...Yankee legacy of winning is gone thanks to poor ownership and management...I miss these nearly flawless championship teams
David Meyer They're doing pretty well so far this year.
Miguel Charles.. You sound like a Met fan
Being a playoff team (which they are, as of now) is garbage, sucks, & shows a lack of effort towards winning? No wonder all Yankee fans (such as myself) are generalized as being spoiled & entitled
+ Ellande Campbell - They're probably the same people who wanted Cano traded for Jason Schmidt in 2005 even though he sucked that year. Also the kind of people who wanted Gary Sanchez to be shoved into DH despite a chance for him to improve defensively and wanted Severino to be wasted in the bull pen after his struggle last season. It's unbelievable at times.
Just out of curiosity, do you still think that they don't give a crap about winning? Do you still think that they suck? Are you still disappointed in what they've become? Do you still think that their legacy of winning is gone?
2000 was the last year of the century
1999 was the end of the millennium, but please try again. When were people fearing Y2K, that was the end of 99 when did people celebrate the new millennium that was January 1, 2000.
@@cambonious23 The last year of the 20th century was 2000. A century has 100 years, Thus 20centuries times 100is 2000. Count to 100, starting at 1, you don't stop at 99
The 20 century started in 1900 and ended in 1999. Just like the 21st century started in 2000. Every year counts. I know there was no year 0, but after that we counted the years that end in 0 as part of the new decade. I remember an older class that graduated in 1989 claimed that they were the last class of the 80s, but that isn’t true because 1990 was? It doesn’t make sense.
@@cambonious23 Please google "When year did the 21st century start" and stop your nonsense
See my previous comment. When did the world fear y2k? On January 1, 2000 at midnight, people feared things would shut down. When did the world celebrate the new millennium? It was the same date and time. Nobody celebrated the new millennium at the start of 2001. The 90s and 20th century ended on January 1, 2000 at midnight, and that is when the new millennium, the 21st century, started.

The Braves lost their last seven Playoff games they played between 1999 and 2000..ATL got swept by Yankees in 1999 World Series and got swept by Cardinals in 2000 NLDS ⁉💺🏟⚾😆

Prefer to hear more Buck and McCarver. Costas is trash
Oh god you have to be kidding Buck and McCarver are horrible - and hate the Yankees to boot.
Good thing NBC did this.
Is that a joke? Buck and McCarver were awful.
The yankees cheated with steroids and having the highest payroll in baseball, buying their championships.
What a joke, the yankees the embarrassment of national sports history.
Proof please...i'll wait
I was unaware that the Yankees are the only team that has had PED users (especially in that era). Are you just as outraged by the payroll that the Dodgers have had for the last 5 or so years, or are you 1 of those hypocrites that show more outrage when it's the Yankees? It seems to be the latter
Sore loser.
