When You're FORCED TO WALK on the Camino De Santiago

  • We were SUPPOSED to be taking a rest day! But then a secret meeting was held (OK, maybe I was asleep and missed the invite) and I was informed that unless I really wanted to rest and force the majority to rest as well, they all wanted to walk.
    So we walked.
    IN THE BEGINNING …
One day, as we were wrapping up our Baja adventure, it struck us that we didn’t yet know where we were going to go next.
“What do you want to do?”, I asked.
“I don’t know, how about you?”, she replied.
    Crickets were heard.
And then on a whim we just decided to put our bus "The Huckleberry" into storage, fly ourselves across the ocean to Portugal, and then walk for a month (or so) until we arrived at a certain cathedral in Spain.
And yea, it pretty much went exactly like that. LOL!
These are the diaries of our Camino de Santiago pilgrimage through the Portuguese Way. (Caminho Português / Camino Portugués). From Porto Portugal to Santiago de Compostela in the Spring of 2024.

Hi, I'm Rick and I live in a bus.
Yup, I'm one of "them". My passion is exploring things just outside of the proverbial box. Travel, adventure, wonder, and all that. (Yea, I'm a little bit ADHD and I kinda need constant stimulation).
But the problem is that I'm also a non-planner. I tend to wing things and just hope for the best. Which actually sometimes even happens.
OK, maybe not as often as I want. 😇
So come join me as I point our beloved bus "The Huckleberry" in random directions, searching for the unfindable. I guarantee you that even when ... er, I mean "if" ... we fail, it will still be a grand ole time.
Location(s): Santiago de Compostela, Spain, Porto, Portugal

Loving following you on your camino Rick. Trials and tribulations aside, you’ve got a great sense of humor coupled with the gift of the gab, and I’ve laughed out loud way too many times.
    Buen camino my friend.

Sometimes the weather makes the decision as to where and when you go. When we woke up and it wasn't infernally hot, it became a day to get plenty of miles in, so we canceled our second stay at Mos. We did all just have a silent nature day. Buen Camino

I’ve been enjoying watching you journey. I just walked the Camino Portugués last month. It’s been cool seeing the places I where I walked just a few weeks ago. If your itinerary isn’t fixed I have a suggestion for you to consider.
Just after you leave Pontevedra (you should be getting there in a day or two) there is an intersection where you can either go to the right and follow the main route, or you can go left and follow the route known as the Spiritual Variant. This a a less traveled route that takes you by Combarro (a small fishing village) then up into the hills to a monastery in Armentiera (they do a pilgrims blessing in the evening there) then down the mountain on the “Route of stone and water” that follows a creek past a number of stone mill ruins (this a a beautiful trail to walk along). After that you walk to Villanova De Arousa which is another fishing village. There you take a boat (yes, this boat ride is an official part of the Camino) up the river to Padrone. In Padrone you join back up with the main Camino route to Santiago. It will add a day or two to the trip, but this is the route I took and I think is well worth it.

No video of the “slight incline” out of Mos?

I am disappointed that this is not about a doctors visit after yesterdays video. See one as soon as possible. No need to wait for a big city. Your health is way too important. In the end it is all you have. But you do you. It is your life, not mine.
