100+ crossings easy for surfing as I'm 30 minutes from TJ. Started in 1966. What a paradise for decades until the cartels and rotten cops chased us back. We got shaken down so bad in Tecate that I stopped going after 2007. I miss the folks down there but looking over my shoulder for the cops constantly got old. Wonderful terrain and unbeatable citizens but I'm surrounded by lots of warm Mexican people right here in San Diego.

What I've found is the 2 types are those who still wanna live life to the fullest, they stay active, and those who've given up, just get fatter and fatter and end up in a scooter not because of injuries, but because they're fat! As far as the border guard inspection thing, you really need to chill, you live in community, society, and there are rules, and sometimes they put you off for a few minutes or hours but really what's the big deal.

Something I've heard a few other travel channels talk about is the smoking in Albania. Specifically in Tiranna and Durres. Cafe's being overrun and even walking by they felt like they had to hold their breath. Did you find the same issue with smoking? If so, is it ubiquitous across Albania or are some cities or parts of cities worse than others? Thanks for any experience you can share.

Just throwing you another option as I'm looking as well and you seem like you appreciate similar things. Uruguay. Traveling with Kristin has a video called "10 Cheap Places To Retire Abroad (on Social Security)" and at the 16 minute mark is where she starts talking about Uruguay. She's also got two more lists of where to live for $1000/month with more suggestions. For me, Mexico, Albania, and Uruguay are top of the list right now.

We were thinking about CR but you're not allowed to work. The options provided is stuff we either can't afford, (start a business and hire locals) or something we have no experience with (digital nomad). We want to become permanent residents to open up employment opportunities, but that takes five years. We just don't have a soluble enough income, and our skills match any resident there, so we have nothing of value to offer this country.

I used to have a time share in San Felipe....in the early 2000's, it was awesome then....

Merida, Yucatán is GREAT! Small villages on the outskirts of town are great very affordable. I have friends down there. The government let them become residence without the 1400 a month. One of my friends only makes 12 and they have their residency.

Baja is dangerous! Just check on how many missing Americans in Baja then count your odds staying alive. My young nephew is missing now for over five years. Not the same Mexico of fifty years ago.

I think the people who consider full time cruising are the same people who have money but realized they don't have enough for a managed retirement village. For them, the activities on a cruise would be an upgrade and a potentially cheaper life. Also, I can't help but think that your cabin is every bit as big as the bus. There may not be as much room for your "stuff" but at least half the stuff in the bus you need because you are in a bus. If you get rid of all the bus life specific stuff, what are you left with? clothes, toiletries, and maybe a few things to pursue a hobby?
