Now that's what I'm talking about! All the new G series is an excellent addition to the garrett turbos, best turbos garrett ever made, but on the G45 one they did what they should have done with the smaller series, and that is to fit the right size turbine. Excellent design , much smaller hub area equals to more blade area on both compressor and turbine. Exducer design and size is as important as inducer design and size. Compact size is king. Nice presentation , just a small correction on your description, 3,5 bar of pressure ratio on compressor map, is 2,5bar of boost as 1 bar is atmospheric. I run the same principles on the custom made turbo I have on the Evo. Very interested to see the results on all the new G45 variants, cheers for the video and info mate!
Good information but saying there is no competition with compressor maps is untrue. You can directly compare it to "small" sxe400 Borg units. I mean those with T4 backside and 72 or 76mm inducer on compressor side
Can you make something similar with the G30 and G35 turbos? I am having an issue with excess backpressure I will need to address. Currently have a GT3076-.82AR This is on a VQ37VHR. I am running twins. Nevermind, I found all the info in your old video. You just explained it better in this one.
I never know why Garrett don't supply the turbo data in table format. It's more accurate than eyeballing the data on the map. This is one of many things that make Injector Dynamics so great.
Hiii I'm thinking of installing a 2.0 TFSI, I'm thinking of pushing all the limits, my goal is to see 1200hp and an engine that rotates at 8000rpm. What would you recommend to me, which series, which model and brand of turbo? Thx
For a divided housing, how do you best suggest monitoring exhaust manifold pressures? Is there a pressure ratio target you shoot for? Thanks for the great video!
Whats best turbo of the garrett range to get 1000whp on a RB30. Its mostly a street car and some street racing. No extreme boost pressures. Maybe a round 2.5 bar on E85. Is G45 1350 a good option?
I wanted to go garret on my car but hated how they name there turbo’s ….precious call there turbo how big the comp and turb is, how simple. You know how much the turbo will make from those sizes 6466 made my life easy 4 simple numbers
Yeah and you don't get a compressor map or even know what your turbo flows plus you have to deal with a relatively unreliable manufacture. Garret is reliability and performance.
Finally, Garrett have upped the turbine. Their ratings based solely on compressor and small turbines have always resulted in sub par performance, G42-1450 perfect example. Compare it to a 7685 with a smaller compressor but bigger turbine, and results from PTE have been much better; more power, same spool, lower egts. Although much prefer 7/7 curved compressor Compared to G/GTX style . BUT baby steps for Garrett and in the right direction.
Great video hitting all Garrett's talking points 😅. Would have been good to compare them vs say the Borgwarner S400SX range which it does directly compete with. As these also have maps available. Sure, they're not ball bearing but, a good comparison regardless. Also surprised Garrett didn't want you to discuss that all there turbo's are water 💦 cooled and it's long term advantages. Unlike the 2 major competitors.
This intake flow vs inducer size must be approaching what can fit through an inducer-sized hole at sonic speeds, surely? Either way it's impressive I'm also curious why they don't like doing twin scroll or internal gate housings, let alone both combined. If I could get (and afford) a T3 twin scroll G35-900 with an internal gate it would be perfect for the 4.0 I dream of building. The G35-900 is probably a bit big for my goals, but it matches the GTX3576 in size and that turbo is known for responding nicely on that size engine.
I have a GTX3582R on my 4L Barra , and it is borderline the right size for the street. Make sure your cold air intake is actually cold air, or it will be a bit lazy off from the lights, ie, intake air should not come from the engine bay. Truth is, the 76 is probably big enough, and would give snappier pre boost response. My next engine will be 10:1 cr to fix that. The factory turbo 8.9cr Barra is a bit lazy pre boost on the 82. But... the mid range torque of the 82 is amazing and 25psi will only hook on the street on very hot day when the road is sticky. I personally do not need more power on the street. I think the perfect 4L barra combo for the street is a highish comp 10:1cr with a G35-900, would be the best all rounder imo.
That what I’m thinking too. The wheels seems so mismatched. You push the turbo the compressor will run out of steam way before the turbine, defeating the purpose of having it if you can’t even push it hard lol
Good rundown Hawko.
Thanks guys!
One of the most underrated channels on RUclips. Thanks Andrew! Can't wait to see the new build
Thanks for your support! We’re at CRD today doing last couple of bits on engine

If you can keep up with all these numbers, my hat's off to you. Looks great a great turbo.
Having recently bought a G42-1450 for my 2J, I feel hoed.. The G45 should've been released in tandem with the G42.
Time to get the beast back on the black top Andrew.. your a true pioneer in this modern GTR world.. your content is second to none..
7675 & 85 vs G45 comparison vid would be nice

those turbos and AR size sounds small for a 3.7L? or is it fine until u really crank the boost up?
@@bigjdm5460 Fine until you get above 25psi of boost. IAT'S start to climb.

Garrett compressor maps are realy easy to read, though?
Great Engines, I love your videos
Nice! If PTE don’t bring out a rival this/one of these could be my next turbo on my 2J
Is a g45-1350 too big for a nitto 2.2 stroker Evo? And what rear housing would you use? Or would you choose a g42-1450? Also what rear housing 😬🙏
G42 seems to suit 4G63 better due to compressor vs turbine wheel size ratio.
@@MotiveVideo Appreciate the reply, what size rear housing would you go with if your aim was 1000whp with the g42-1450

I run a Garrett gtx3584rs gen 2 at 2.35 bar today and just shy of 1000 crank
Great vid Andrew can’t wait to see the dyno evidence of performance compared to a PTE Equivalent or G42 comparison !
Most holset turbo have bigger rears. The HX55 and HX60 are beasts.

Wat is ur thoughts on thw garrett gt55 On Honda k24's? Bosstedboiz kyle has one on his minivan. Also wat do u think of the pulsar turbo range?
I know they wouldn't send me an example balance sheet, but people are getting fairly good results on them.
Hi Andrew, Which G45 variant are you going with?
The biggest 😁
Does this fit in a BMW M4 2016?
A cummins might like the g45 for compounds
i bought g42-1450 to push 0.6 bar's on my s62 build :D soooo :D
I would love to see this g45 on a ls 4.8 / 5.3
hope to see a smaller ones for 200~250 hp
These new turbo hp/size are insane! My new turbo is a on3 107 billet. Can't afford Garrett or Precision
In the real world, it's more of a successor to the GTX47. In many applications that use now a GTX45 the gains would be minimal.
perfect street turbo
Yep, new turbo combos are quite intresting.
Still all I'm seeing is precision precision, precision even after G42 released interesting to see G45
Hawkins do you think a g35 would be too big on a 2.0 Mitsubishi? I’ve heard there’s no difference between spool time between g30/35
We use 35 based turbos on 4 cylinders all the time
Sounds good

Stroked RB26 or just one with built internals?
Have a look at our previous couple of Motive Garage videos on the R32. It’s a monster
pulsar will probably have a copy done soon lol
Like clockwork there on the site but after looking closely at the specs for the 1450 clone the wheels are several mm different
Sick…..looking for the right single turbo atm! Thanks Motive 🙏🏽

Borg Warner have maps available last I looked, which would make this similar to an s400 frame
