    I've never had a Garrett ball bearing turbo fail, and they are technical leaders in turbochargers ... that said I'm going with Pulsar because I can't justify spending 3x the price for a turbo that is not going to be stressed to the maximum.

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage Месяц назад

      To be fair, the old Garrett GT series used a tiny bearing package that, while reliable overall, is puny compared to what is in the G-series or an EFR for example. So, as long as Pulsar is also using the larger bearing package, it should handle quite a bit of abuse. The quality of the bearings is one of the biggest questions. Hard to determine without knowing exact source though!

      @802Garage Месяц назад +1

      @@Scoots1994 Of course, if that's the case. However, there is no evidence of that. In the case of billet Wheels, China is perfectly capable of using forged billet aluminum of quality just as good as what Garrett uses. Many big brand turbo companies source components like this from China as is. The turbine is more complex for sure, but it's not like China can't produce Inconel as well. They are likely a major supplier for large companies for that as well. Very rarely do we see any Chinese turbochargers fail because of inadequate wheel materials, while the quality of bearings can vary drastically and be hidden entirely in the CHRA. That's all I'm saying.

    • @Scoots1994
      @Scoots1994 Месяц назад

      @@802Garage I didn't say anything about China. Products are often made well, get a good reputation, then try to maximize profits and that leads to cheaper components being used. Boeing is a US company that is suffering from that very problem. And, like Boeing, the company is not always aware that the metal they purchased are not up to the specs they need.

    Nice info! They definitely did a hell of a job cloning. Then it just comes down to material quality, which in many aspects I would bet is similar. The bearing package is going to be the most expensive component you would hope isn't cheaped out on.

  • @lightmetalinc.6488
    @lightmetalinc.6488 Год назад +19

    While the wheel specs are the same, Garrett put their money in the twin piston sealed bearing cartridge and the turbine wheel is made from Mar-M alloy. Without and in depth comparison of the inner workings I wouldn't write off the Garrett. Some say they are a rip off but there is a reason others copy them, they spent millions on R&D / manufacturing. Much easier to reverse engineer something than make it from scratch. A Pulsar turbo is cooler than a fake Rolex but they are in a similar vein.

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage Месяц назад

      My issue with the G-series is just how expensive they are. They are a massive step up from older Garrett turbos in so many ways, but when they are 1.5X the price of a Borg Warner EFR for example, they just don't feel like good value. Sweet turbos for sure, but you gotta pay to play.

    It's getting to the point where the knockoffs from China sometimes are so good that it's not even worth buying the genuine thing. I'm sure if you're a professional race team, Garret units have better quality control and that matters, but for the price you just can't beat the Pulsars.

    need to do spool test on something like the n54, I did tests with the pulsstar G30-900 and genuine Garrett. the pulsstar was HORRIBLE. even with a 0.84ar turbine housing, the pulsstar was 800rpm slower to spool to 32psi. taking 4800rpm in 3rd from 2500rpm. My genuine Garrett g30-900 spooled 32psi at 4000rpm while being in a bigger 1.06ar housing. unfortunately didn't have a Dyno but the pulsstar felt significantly slower and I lost the ability to get my xi awd to go a bit sideways from a launch. even swapped my 225 rear tires back on from my 255s

    I find it funny that you deleted my original comment lol! Was it stating too many facts and simultaneously making you look ignorant? Just FYI If you reach a point of not being able to argue or defend your side any longer, it might be time to educate yourself instead of deleting comments. If you are truly right you might want to showcase that by showing actual evidence of why you are right. You can't just delete conversations in real life... BTW, I wouldn't have given two shits if you had originally said "we make a quality knockoff garrett turbo for cheaper." But you didn't, instead you were acting like you guys are some geniuses making a better turbo than garrett and claiming it makes more power. Yet also stating it's dimensionally the same...Those two things cannot be simultaneously true unless you have a composition difference... The truth is you are knocking off someone's actual hard work and then claiming you did it better.... Come on bro, just admit that you have a decently well copied turbo that maybe good for most for cheap. But don't say it's better without stating why, or atleast showcasing some verifiable evidence to prove your statement!
