    Shocking effects of drought. I’ve read several articles about how Spain is turning into a desert. Your courtyard is becoming more and more beautiful.

    I use cherry tomatoes in salads all the time. I only use the bigger gourmet tomatoes in sandwiches.

    So lovely to have a garden update, nice to see everything growing. From someone else who comes from a dry arid area (Australia), compost is great but it needs another layer ontop like pea straw or some straw, pop it on the top layer and water in and it will mat together. Really helps keep the compost layer cool and retains the water Really well. Also is a lighter colour so reflects the heat from the soil heating up around the stem if the plant. Also great for pots! Good luck with the next few weeks of growth! 😊

    “That’s the sound of free electricity “, love it. When I FaceTime with my daughter her mic picks up the noise of her laptop fan which is nearly silent in person. However, it sounds very loud on my end, so I understand. Tilly is gorgeous 😍😍😍 good luck with your melons !

    Here is something that will blow your mind:
    Tomatoes split open when the flesh inside the fruit grows faster than the skin. This can happen when there's too much water, like after a period of dry weather followed by heavy rain. The excess water puts pressure on the tomato, causing the flesh to grow and expand faster than the skin can. This can eventually lead to the skin bursting and splitting.
    Good luck with your tomatoes!

    The gardener over here says that tomatoes split when they receive too much water. They seem to thrive better in more or less dry conditions.

    Hi, all the renovations are turning out very beautiful, well done!! You guys are planting in containers, something I'm wondering about, how did the farmers in the past farm the land over there? Forgive me, but the land seems dusty, rocky and dry, how does anything grow over there?

    • @FincaLife

      Not much grows in the ground but many years ago, it used to rain a lot more. Nowadays, it's mainly almonds, olives, vines and certain fruit trees

      @@FincaLife The problem with planting in containers is they will get very hot if in the direct sun and cook the roots. For melons the fruit needs the sun to ripen but the roots dont. I have found it better to shade bell peppers as they will cook in july and august with the heat. All trial and error.

    • @FincaLife
      @FincaLife  3 месяца назад +1

      @@hebershort6794 Thanks - We have successfully grown peppers (bell and Italiano) and tomatoes here for the last 5 years in pots. We have tried them in the ground, without success and hence the reason this year we are trying melons in pots - as we haven't had any joy growing them in the ground. We normally have more peppers and tomatoes than we can use so hopefully will achieve similar success with the melons. Watch this space....
