    I think it is fantastic to see you more relaxed, more accepting of the restraints of time and looking after children, and more ready to accept he things you can not change. Striving for perfection is exhausting, and don't you think it limits the time one has to appreciate the beauty around one or the time to think and dream. Good on you, Lea.❤ How lovely to see the children's participation, and what a wonderful life they are leading! The best there is😊

    Lea as they say there is 'no right or wrong' it is what works for you and one does not need a fancy uniform garden. Weeds do have their place I agree, but if they are not messing your vegetables up why stress about it. Love how Bo comes and helps you and he has grown so big now. Lovely to see you, Marten, Puk , Bo and Louis and the chickens. You are all looking so much happier and relaxed. Groetjes. Have a lovely day. Till the next one.

    Geese and (old style) free range turkey cocks are usually quite fearless, noisy when alarmed and big enough to take on any fox and most dogs so they are often kept with chickens and ducks to protect flocks from predation.

    19:42 that plant with white flowers under the coop seems like wild parsnip or giant hogsweed, it's fibers/liquid removes the UV protection from the skin. It's easy to break but if you don't get its roots out (the larger ones look like sweet potatoes) next year they grow bigger and spread hundreds of seeds. I've dug out several larger ones (+2m tall) with a visor, raincoat, an _enxada_ and gloves, but the first time I did it without the visor, I got my face burning for weeks due to splashing...
    Not trying to scare, just thought my experience with these things might be helpful. By getting them out this time of the year, population control can be kind of manageable...
    Great video/update, appreciated the beauty of the fields 🙏

Saute some pork spare ribs very well until they are really brown and you get them to carmallis when they are will done add some onions and garlic and the fava beans. Put enough water salted to cover beans and cook until they are soft and you get a nice gravy forming . this is how italians cook them. Also get some goats to do the trimming

    If your nights are colder than 10° C (50°F) then do not put your peppers outside. It will stunt the peppers and they will not have time to make mature fruits before the frost in fall kills them. Keeping them in the warmer greenhouse will save you a month or more of growing time in the garden.

    • @ourportuguesehomestead
      @ourportuguesehomestead  3 месяца назад

      Yes I know, but as I said the weather has been very unpredictable this year. Every time I think it'll be the last time to go under 10, it happens again two weeks later. The starts in my greenhouse are stunted as well. Might just buy a few next week and see how they go.

    I love your point of view about "weeds" (in Dutch "on"kruid), they are indeed not always as bad as a lot of gardeners proclaim 😋 so keep your own style, it works!
    an idea for your chickens and fox issue: especially American homesteaders use movable chicken coops and rotate the chickens on their land with netting to keep them in a smaller portion on land. it will fertilize that smaller part of your land and they clear all the good and "bad" weeds. you can protect them against the fox, by charging your netting on solar-feed electric. though your chickens might need some time to get used to it as well 😅

    It was good to see a video from you. I really enjoyed it. The kids are growing up so fast. I have a question for you. With all the tomatoes you are always growing how come you don't can or freeze them? When making your fava beans you said you added tinned tomatoes. I figured with all that you grow that you would surely can or freeze your veggies for winter time use and to cut down on buying food at the markets.

      I don’t really grow so many tomatoes that I have enough for canning, we mostly eat them fresh. We also don’t have a freezer, so that’s not an option. Two years ago I did grow a lot more and I made some ketchup and chutney from the excess.

    Hoe lang kook jij je tuinbonen? Ik probeer ze nog steeds lekker te vinden, maar het lukt maar niet. Heb ze ook 'dubbel gedopt', maar het blijft een ruige buitenkant .. of je op stukjes jute zit te kauwen of zo. Net of die schillen nooit gaar worden. En dan zo'n melige binnenkant. Dat pellen en de 'slow-down' die erbij hoort, vind ik juist wel fijn, net zoals jij aangeeft. Maar de smaak .. en het mondgevoel .. ik snap wel dat mensen geen tuinbonen (meer) eten.
