Here in Norway we pay for the bottle as well as the drink and when it’s empty we pop them in vending type machines and get that money back. almost all bottles like this are returned to the shops, but it’s not perfect as there are certain types of plastic bottles that aren’t included in this system. When I lived in London, I always felt awful about bottles just becoming rubbish
There was a similar system Here in the UK for pop and maybe beer bottles but it finnised in the 1980's there are plans afoot to bring somthing like it back if the politicians and various parties can get their act together. at least one supermarket Co. has machines that take plastic bottles and give tokens to spend in store, more stores should take it up.
I would love to see a wall in a pub that was half plain brick alternating with every second brick being a found/historical one. Tricky if the dimensions are all a bit different. Maybe even slide in a few roman ones for good measure!
My wife and I look forward to your posting every Sunday. Great production value, great explanations of items found. Makes my wife and I wish we could join you there. My wife being disabled, she can only live vicariously Through you. BE SAFE and keep UP the good work!!!

LOVE THE BRICKS. So many different makers. One in Nimmitabel NSW had a heart stamped in the middle of it. They set it into the kitchen fire surround.Hi Gazelle!
That Viking boat going down the Thames was actually really cool lol. Viking’s had such wonderful boat designs. The token was cool, so was the RAOB Pipe!
I’m so addicted to you and Nicola’s videos! Maybe one day I’ll make it to good ol’ London Town and see the Thames for myself. I’ve read so many books about the Thames. I love history and nature so this seems like a dream to me! I’d love to be a mudlark ❤️
I found two of those amusement only tokens in Escanaba, MI on the shore. They were the size of a penny and had a hole in the middle. I was told by a collector they were made in the 1920s-30s and used in a "3 wheel bandit" gambling machine. These were common in various varieties. They were usually paired with particular "gambling" amusement machines and could be "cashed out" with the establishment proprietor thus staying under the radar of the law. Really great find!
Thanks Si and Jules. Coins over the place that day. Even missed a few and a brass buckle. You are good stuards of the Thames . Makes me furious to see all the plastic. I agree we should just have stayed with glass. At least in a few states here there is a deposit on plastic you get back when you return it. Used to go collecting bottles as a kid to get ice cream money. Free clean up, kids stay busy and make a little money. Win win! Take care. Love the artwork 😊👍💜
8:50 Sometimes the put that sort of things in the pavement to direct you to a certain place or a city walk (as the markers for the 'jubilee walkway' for instance). Maybe the 'P' is to direct people to the nearest parking? The token with Samson seems to be from the WWII days
Impressed with your finds Si. But there was a great deal of what appeared to be worked granite blocks all over the place, beautifully dressed stone!! To heavy to carry home unfortunately - worth a bomb....
Dennis brickworks, in Ruabon North Wales. I use to live in the village next to it called Johnstown. When I was a kid we use to play around that area and then would explore the building when it finally closed down. Good times.
My old English Gran used to say "See a penny, pick it and all the day you'll have good luck"... The same applied to finding a pin. Here in Australia we get 10 cents for every plastic bottle we take into the recycle centre, We cash in bottles and cans every 3 month and get around $80 great for no effort.
A thought occurred whilst watching the pair of you have so much fun. Imagine if there was a freak tide or .........whatever, and the Thames was drained for a day, WOW! Thousands of Mudlarkers all looking for luck in the muck. Just think, right back to pre-Roman times! Enough fantasizing, thank you for this adventure.
I love old type! I worked at my local newspaper for many years. I love anything having to do with the old-fashioned way of printing and publishing. Nice find!
Si and George, neat finds and great plane action. The coinage is always a treat...thank you! Have such a good time, Men....it is always slices of history with so much room for imagination to help visualize little pieces of the past. Just lovely!
The mammoth tooth is wild! What a find! Top pocket for certain. The paste jar was my favorite find next to that tooth! I don’t know what the draw of for the paste jars. They come in so many shapes and sizes. The one you found this video is quite small. And I love the pattern on it! Hope to see Poppy tag along with you and Jules soon!

I'll say it again for Part II, WOW what a great mudlark with Jules. A *beautiful set of Aux. Fire Service buttons,* a nestolgic & emotionally sentimental artifact for London. What an enviable roundup. Thanks again Si🧡 Dudley
The advertising token was neat but the mammoth tooth was simply awesome! You both made some fun finds. Glad the ladder held up for the exit! Good luck on your next hunt!
Interesting to see bricks and stonework that are local to me in Leeds. Although spelt Wortley, it's pronounced with 'ur' sound, Wurtley. Love your clips👍
"a dodgey American penny, no offense" None taken 😆. We call them Stinkin' Lincoln's. The newer ones don't last very long without becoming corroded beyond recovery. Those trowels are a good idea. For some of the smaller things, I have seen some mudlarks use one half that size or even a small painters trowel. Some really nice finds. Nice way to spend a weekend. 👍 All those stones and bricks with names on them would make an interesting wall or bar-b-que pit. Maybe a border for a flower bed or garden.
Hello Simon. An early cup of coffee and the Thames! Just the best start to my day. Thank you so much. One day, just one day I’ll get back to lovely London, best city in the world
I've been wanting to do this for a while now, perhaps on my next trip home. I love everything you found, but especially the bricks. I appreciate your channel because I can watch from afar. I can imagine picking up something from the past and marveling at holding in my hand something that hasn't been touched in years.
Sooo much to see. It's intriguing! I would stay for hours and hours! Great finds. There's a man that takes a different named brick home with him every time he goes. Making a floor for his patio. How amazing is that!

Great this two episodes, very interesting. I really enjoy watching sci-fi and friends mudlarking on the banks and foreshore of the Thames and various places. Cant wait till next time video☘️💫
I think but cannot be certain, that round you found at about 21:30 is an 8mm Lebel, a French cartridge. It's got a heavy taper, hefty rim and what seems be the classic groove around the base. This groove was to prevent a big boom. The 1886 Lebel rifle for which the round was initially designed (in a rush too, first smokeless cartridge) used a tubular magazine underneath the barrel. The cartridges had a cludge solution to prevent the tip of one round from hitting the primer of the next round potentially causing a round to detonate in the magazine. It likely made its way to Britain in 1940. During the Dunkirk evacuation the British forces rescued French troops, an agreement which ensured French Cooperation in the endeavour. Odds are a French soldier had one in his pocket as the rounds were used loose. While the Lebel had largely been replaced by the MAS-36 chambered in a rimless 7.5mm cartridge however the French arms industry couldn't keep up with demand. The 1886 Lebel, Berthier carbine, Chauchat LMG and some other obsolete arms all chambered in 8mm Lebel were pressed into service when the Wehrmacht invaded.
There was a brick at 9:30 which says Middleton, Leeds. Lots of brick making around Here back in the day, I think the clay in the ground around here is of a good enough standard for pottery, good for bricks and nowt else!
My weekly mud larking fix! All is now right in the universe. I loved the baby mammoth tooth. Excellent find and so great to get the background history with an illustration of what was. Wish I was there....looks like so much fun.
Dennis Ruabon an old brickworks near my hometown Wrexham north wales. Founded in 1878 as the Hafod Brick and Tile Works, Rhosllanerchrugog. Still operating as Ruabon Sales. Love the channel.,👍

The character on the 'token' is samson breaking the pillars at the temple of dagon.
You are right!
As he pushed the pillars apart
Samson was appalled
For just before the roof fell in
Delilah said "He's bald!".
Spike Milligan.

Cheers Andrew - great info

There was a brick at 9:30 which says Middleton, Leeds. Lots of brick making around Here back in the day, I think the clay in the ground around here is of a good enough standard for pottery, good for bricks and nowt else!
My weekly mud larking fix! All is now right in the universe. I loved the baby mammoth tooth. Excellent find and so great to get the background history with an illustration of what was. Wish I was there....looks like so much fun.
