This is not what I was looking for. However, this is the best teaching I have heard it over 20 years on fasting.

Thanks but I have to note that fasting was indeed mentioned in the Torah (Leviticus 23:26-32). To afflict the soul on the day of atonement meant fasting. The only day of the year that God COMMANDED the children of Israel to fast and it was also a Sabbath of rest because they were commanded to do no work. I lived with Jews for four years and everyone in the household who's had a Bat Mitzvah was REQUIRED to fast on the day of atonement (even pregnant and lactating mothers). It is a statute throughout the generations and I have adopted that lifestyle of fasting on the day of atonement. God Bless. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Hi, This is a very good observation. Thank you for saying something and not just thinking it. The short video is based on a longer teaching that I do where the point you are making is actually underlined. In fact I think I talk about this in the next episode. You are correct, as the revelation of fasting developed through God's Word, the Jews considered the day of atonement a day of fasting. This is seen by the fact that Paul referred to it as the Fast (Acts 27:9) However, the word fasting - Tsom - does not occur in the Torah, it literally means 'to cover up', indicating specifically abstaining from food. Yet, as you have pointed out, it is foreshadowed in the Torah. This point is made because the teaching (spoiler alert) goes on to show that, I believe, the progressive revelation of fasting climaxes in the New Testament with a fasted life. I hope this makes sense. Thank you for engaging with our channel
